In Topeka, Kansas USA lies the controversial Westboro Baptist Church, headed by pastor Frederick Waldron Phelps, Sr. The church controls the websites: GodHates[bleep]s.com, GodHatesAmerica.com, as well as other websites targeting homosexuals, transgenders, Muslims, Jews, and others. The Westboro Baptist Church notify themselves as Baptists, and are best known for their slogan, "God Hates [bleep]s." The Westboro Baptist Church believes: that tragedies in the world are linked to homosexuals, that God hates homosexuals above all sinners, and that homosexuality should be a capital crime, or put simply, a death sentence. More than 100 members are apart of the church's organisation, the majority being the Phelp's themselves. The members regularly participate in picketings in Topeka, going to funerals of: homosexual murder victims, soldiers killed in the Iraq war, and any other death related to homosexuals. The Church reportedly spends $200,000-$250,000 a year on transportation in order to picket. Going around with signs saying "God Hates [bleep]s" really doesn't help your cause, if anything, more people will support gays just becuase you don't. And that $200 thousand a year could be put to a lot of other uses... In the article I read though, they went to funerals of the men and woman who died in Iraq and protested there, to the dead's family, stating that gays, homosexuals, ect were the cause... I mean really, that's just way to disrespectful. The man got sued for protesting "This is what america gets for accepting homosexuality", "Thank god for dead soldiers" etc. and then got all pissed at the news guy when he was interviewed on the phone. bongo_man Posted January 11, 2008 Author Share Posted January 11, 2008 did i forget to mention that most of the members are children and adolescents? sherry phelps (daughter of fred phelps, highly active member) brainwashed her kids into doing this. i remember seeing the louis theroux documentary on the family, she has a two sons, one a child (around age 4) and another in his adolescence (15 if i remember). she also has three girls over 17, and finally, her husband takes part in the picketing! the kids said they are hated and picked on at school, and all because they were brought up by a family with twisted views...really unfair... I stated that a sin is a sin unless of course it's blasphemy of the Holy Ghost, so God doesn't HATE homosexuals. He just doesn't agree with it. You shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination Leviticus 18:22 That is a verse in the old testament. Here is a verse in the new testament, it's just as clear as the old testament that homosexuality is a sin. 1 CORINTHIANS 6, 9-10:Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor EFFEMINATE, nor abusers of themselves with mankind. Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. So that states God is against it although God loves all sinners and all sins are forgivable except blasphemy of the Holy Ghost. The people from this church are bad people. That doesn't some how make all Christian morals bad. If we burn in hell, thats our business. Is someone disagreeing with you? Why do you feel the need to state this? Obviously it's our business. Though, it is also your friend's business if they decide they hate their life enough to end it. Does that mean you are not entitled to care and maybe try to encourage them to live? If not, you are just as evil as the people from this baptist church picketing for the most absurd cause. These people don't care if you go to hell. They just hate people enough to tell them they are going to hell, which may or may not be the case. Many people, including myself, would think its not the case. Regardless, a minority as small as 100 people in the millions of people on this earth show that their thinking may not be up to par with the human race. If there was a group of a 100 people picketing against the use of pencils for standardized tests, with no reason other than "Pencils are dangerous" or "I hate the USA", would there cause ever be fulfilled? Though I have not hear of many fundamentalists that are generally nice people, although out of thousands out there I'm sure theres at least one who keeps his fundamentalist beliefs to himself, I would still get a bad first impression if I knew a person I have just met is fundamentalist. It's not easy to not stereotype someone who follows those same beliefs you are stereotyping for, it probably doesn't even count as a stereotype. The point is, this particular Baptist church is being completely biased, racist, and otherwise...prejudiced. And blasphemous, to be honest. (We in the church believe that we cannot decide what God likes and does not like. He loves all creation, and if we change that idea then we are creating a false God.) The point is, this post is for flaming a really crappy group of adolescent churchgoers who have serious problems with gays \ I mean, I just think they shouldn't get married...but this is just bad.
