bogwaga
Yeah, it could make a difference especially if your a pure. I'm not, and so the 2 combat levels I got from summoning can be annoying but it's no big deal. If you don't want it affecting you, try F2P bounty hunter. Less dangerous and you could make decent money from rune items. mackish
Personally I love summoning. It raises my combat level so annoying aggressive low level monsters stop attacking.
shivers21
Summoning is a very diverse skill, but it is a combat skill, so yes I think it should raise combat. if it didn't, imagine this little level 3 comming into bounty hunter, then whipping out a steel titan! well.. even a lvl 30 with 99 summoning.. sighz. {DeviantART}{Last.Fm}{Join Sublime GFX, great community for artists!}Back to RuneScape, Again.Avatar by Brian The Great
snowager286
Summoning should raise the combat level since it is immersed in combat features. I also think that generally speaking it is a good idea to raise summoning despite the combat increase because the benefits of summoning levels far out way the problems of a higher combat level. RichieMcD
As soon as you get to 52+ Summoning it is a incredibly useful skill and yes it should raise combat level as it is a combat skill. If you have a follower that benefits you in combat then yes it should raise combat.
r4ngewarlord
yeah but the levels are annoying espically when in duel arena tourneys a lot of the time there is no summoning Gamertag: EFs Predator.Games I play: Halo 3, Halo wars.
githzerai1
At first, with the familiars being as weak as the are in the first 50-70 lvls, I would argue that it's not worth the bump in cmb lvls. However, as your familiars reach lvl 100+, having a familiar that can dish out massive damage is definitely worth it (for example, geyser titan scrolls, steel titan scrolls...deal massive damage and adds significant amounts of exp to whatever combat style they represent). It doesn't necessarily have to be in the duel arena where summon is useful. Just training combat via slayer, or doing events that are less bounded by rules (like bh), are enough to let your opponents know that the familiar who ko'd him is definitely worth the extra 10 cmb lvls of the summoner
Hegel
Summoning can be seen as a combat aid like prayer, that when used does improve combat ability. Given the restrictions imposed on the use of familiars, however, there should too be times when the combat level is not raised. This can be seen from how the f2p combat level is unaffected by summoning, but then again it is hard to fathom how places that do not allow the use of familiars such as BH take it into account. Evil Pig20
Summoning should only raise combat lvls when it is treated like a real combat skill. Take the dual arena for example. Lets look at some options No melee No magic No range No prayer Allow summoning Notice that summoning has to be "allowed" before it can be used in a fight? Why dont they make it so that in normal fight you're not allowed to use magic? The answer is that summoning isnt treated like a combat skill. Another example. I decide to go kill some fire giants with my familiar. Oh no, look, you cant use familiars in non-multicombat. So howcome prayer is aloud in non-multi. Why can we use melee in these "non-multicombat" areas of Runescape. For the second time, summoning isnt treated like a combat skill. Jagex need to make summoing an actual combat skill, not just something that is pointless in combat and only useful in skilling. Oh, and dont say "Summoning is merely a combat aid" or "It wouldn't be fair, it would be 2 vs 1." Prayer is a combat aid is it not? Then howcome it is treated differently from the other combat aid, summoning. I rest my case. Jagex crapped up a skill that could of been great. (Jagex pooped on summoning then laughed, it seemed a good idea to them at the time.) Evil Pig20

deathdude777
Hmm, thats a good question... I do think it makes a difference in fist of guthix, because being able to outrun anyone definatly makes it worth the extra 5 combat levels(spirt terrorbird). Iron minotaur can stun enemys while I am wearing melee armor, so yes I think they are worth the combat levels. k1tt3h$ f0r t3h w1ns!
willyhenriksen
The only use for summoning (in my opinion, which is flawed) is slaying dragons in brimhaven without having those darn dogs attacking me every two seconds. They're cmb 63, so you they couldn't be non-agressive before, but with a cmb level of 127 it is now possible. R.I.P. Shiva and Steve

Alg
If you plan to use it, it'll make itself useful. If your character is balanced when using summoning, it's probably the best skill you can use in multicombat. If not, then of course the level 18 summon isn't going to help you much, if you're 80+ combat. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
