Guitar Hero IV: World Tour

Guitar Hero World Tour (formerly known as Guitar Hero 4, Guitar Hero IV) is the upcoming sequel to the music video game Guitar Hero series, and will be developed by Neversoft and published by RedOctane and Activision, targeted for an initial release date of October 27, 2008. The game is expected to be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Wii consoles.

While the game will continue to feature the use of a guitar-shaped controller to simulate the playing of rock music, Guitar Hero World Tour will expand to also include the use of drum and vocal peripherals. Furthermore, according to Game Informer, the game will allow users to create new songs, including drums, rhythm guitar, lead guitar and bass guitar, although the studio mode will be without vocals, because of copyrights and storage limitations. It is confirmed that players will be able to upload and share their songs.

Soundtrack and Downloadable Content

IGN's preview states that there will be over 85 songs on the disk, all of which will be master tracks (a first for the series), and while there will be a renewed commitment to downloadable content, existing downloadable songs for Guitar Hero III will not be playable in World Tour. Downloadable content will be available through the in-game store and will include full album downloads and more regular releases compared to Guitar Hero III. Project director Brian Blight claims that they have "a pretty even split between the '80s, '90s, and classic rock" with a "good amount of emerging bands".

Isn't October 28th, 2007 when GH3 came out? That would be funny if they were released exactly a year apart. This is what I said on the last thread, once the game is released and it's been confirmed we can use Les Paul guitars on it and the game looks good, then I'll buy the stand-alone game and use my LP. There's no way in hell I'm buying another drumset.

It has been confirmed that "Surfing with the Alien" and "Satch Boogie" by Joe Satriani will be playable tracks according to an interview with Satriani in Guitar World Magazine.

Actually, Satriani stated that the songs have been licensed for a future Guitar Hero or Rock Band game, not that both were confirmed for World Tour.

Hopefully it will be compatible with the Rock Band drums though.

Unless Harmonix releases attachments to their drums (which Neversoft will never allow), they won't be. World Tour drums have 3 pads and 2 cymbals, Rock Band drums have 4 pads. World Tour drums can determine how hard you hit them, attachments can't make the Rock Band drums do that. I'm just hoping Harmonix doesn't go all crazy and release a new drum set for Rock Band 2 making our old ones null and void.

After this I'll have 5 plastic guitars, 2 drum sets, and 2 mics -.-

They need to make a universal instrument to just cover them all to make this alot easier for us lol.

So wait, I'm confused.

What is the difference between this and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith?

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is basically GH3 with a bunch of Aerosmith songs and no gameplay changes. If you played Rock the 80's, GH:A is sorta like that.

This is more of a Rock band competitor. It has drums and vocals added, which are the main differentiators between this and other GH games.

And yet another kick to the PS3; it will be available on the PS2. When are they going to learn?

Besides that, I'm not too thrilled. Multiple instruments will just give it an exorbitant price tag, and frankly, I don't see the addition of drums and vocals that important. ALthough I heard that the new guitar controller will have some sort of enhanced feature to make gameplay different.

you can do slides on the new guitar! slides!

I like the new guitar's design a lot more than rock band's. The fret size and position is a lot better, and hopefully the strumbar will actually be playable with, unlike the strat.

Hmm, I'm going to have a problem here. Most of the time I won't have anyone to play this with, and having a bunch of instruments idle would be a bad thing. I would need to make some sort of rig...hold the drumsticks in my elbows....microphone hat....

I've heard it's possible to at least do vocals/guitar at once, lol.

I may end up getting this considering how much me and my roomate played GH3. Could have one of us doing drums and the other guitar/vocals, hehe.

Well, one of the links had pics of all the instruments, and the guitar had about 50 frets. Don't know if that equates to slides or not, though.

Man they were confusing me there -- especially since some people enjoyed switching between IV/Aerosmith.

And also, Aerosmith didn't suck as much as 80's did (though I still found it fun, but a very cheap, quick fun that got boring fast), as in, it's not just a crappy little expansion pack. It's really a quality game, with Classic Rock hits in each venue along with an Aerosmith song.

I'm sooooo getting this. You guys know how much of an improvement this will be in comparison to Rock Band? GHIV will absolutely demolish Rock Band, I can picture it. GLaDOS is still cool though, and I still wanna get Rock Band for its tracks (really GLaDOS is one of the reasons I really wanna get Rock Band), so I haven't exactly decided if I'll get Rock Band or not, but I see World Tour as something to totally save up for.

I'm really hoping for the right Black Sabbath song to get added to the lineup. Something like Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath would be a real pain for the vocalist.

and a slide is where you slide the pick down one of the strings.

it makes a sound like 30 seconds into this video

or

2:43 in this video (and you can see the movement more clearly)

Xy_YpPvlHiw

(first 2 songs that came to mind when I thought pick slide)

in the previous GH games its just been classified as a long held note.

@above comment...

Pick slides would be cool but I don't think that is what it's going to be used for.

It looks to me like a rip-off of the solo buttons on the rock band guitar...

Other than that I really don't know what other use they could be for.
