"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

How do I stop myself being the twisted bitter ex girlfriend?

Yes I ended the relationship, yes I don't regret ending it. I'm generally happy although sometimes I feel a sharp pain when I think about some of the shenanigans of the past two years.

However I find myself happy that he's being humiliated on social media (because that's the kind of girl he's picked for himself)

His new girlfriend is embarrassing him on Twitter, responding to claims about my ex being a "downgrade" from her past boyfriends, and yeah I'll be honest

and say I mentally think "Yes. [bleep] him" and that he deserves being humiliated like this. I'm not sure she realises responding to "criticism" on a public forum only opens the door to more criticism or more taunts. She's periodically mocked on Yik Yak and whatever else, but I just want to get moving on with my life to be honest.

My ex's sister messaged me last night saying she still loved me, and that the family still think I'm a "wonderful" person and that they're sad we're not together anymore.

They want me to come and visit - I'm really unsure if that would be too awkward, but it breaks my heart that I may never see their dog run up to me again. The sister asked if I'll be friends with her brother still. I was hopeful but it's looking incredibly unlikely day by day. We're more or less ignoring each other, I have absolutely no idea how it'll be in person.

Either way, I'm far too invested in the humiliation of my ex for my own liking. I'm not really sure how I'll move on if I'm still gloating every time he's humiliated publicly.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Drop the connections (un-friend on FB, remove their Family from FB, delete their twitter/insta e.t.c) and you will feel more wholesome in the long run. It is easy to revel in the downward spiral that can occur post break-up but for your personal sake it is better to just get on with your own life.

It's easier to be strangers than it is to be awkward-"platonic" friends. Albeit, going from lovers to strangers is, unfortunate to say the least. But you will stop being a "bitter-twisted" Ex quickly if you stopped caring.

SideNote: He rebounded fairly quickly, you weren't missing out on much.

Agreed completely. Cut them out of your life entirely - no matter how hard it may be.

Everybody deserves to be with somebody who wants to be with them. Unfortunately, that can change while in the relationship too. It's all trial and error and will hurt less each time.

Did a lurker just post? Awesome!

Yeah your break up was shitty Maddy. End all contact(especially social media) and begin thinking of anyone associated to your ex as a stranger including him himself. You need to move on. And delete yik yak, that app is garbage.

Wtf is yik yak?

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

Garbage. I use it occasionally mainly just to have a bit of fun with people and troll them a bit but otherwise. At-least where I (and Maddy live) it is full of "Roadmen" and Uni students complaining about where we live. It is frightfully dull as Rpg says.

@saq yik yak is a an anonymous local combination of twitter and reddit.you can only see posts within a couple miles of you, and its basically twitter except with upvotes and downvotes.

It's a lot better in a college town. pretty much all of the students here have it so sometimes it can be funny or be a good way to hear about things happening on campus, though there are a bunch of whiny desperate people on there too. When i visit home in the surburbs though it's utter garbage

Lol I lived in an apartment this year where another group of people lived underneath me and one time i played my electric drumkit in my living room and saw a passive aggressive yak about how somebody was annoyed that their upstairs neighbor got a drum set right in time for finals week posted around the time I was playing and it was probably the proudest yik-yak-related moment I've had.

Or just ask "how old are you?"

And have the cops show up one day because she lied and was actually 16?

highly unlikely worst case scenario

"What's your favorite bar?"

If she doesn't have an answer, she's too young for you.

Or if her answer sucks, you can stop talking to her.

"I don't drink"

Noooope

That's a huge plus for me imho.

Same. I always seem to get the girls who are really messy drunks and they end up doing embarrassing shit. I'm not a big drinker myself, so the less she drinks the better it is.

I guess you could ask if she knows what a floppy disc is? But asking their favorite bar has always been a strong indicator for me

Is there a way to check their ID without seeming paranoid?

Mate I believe in doing your research and finding out the actual age of someone.

There's something about me that makes me not really want to get involved with people younger than me.

It's not a maturity thing, it's just me.

The oldest person I've ever had a connection with was 24 (if he was telling the truth lol i'm kinda suspicious of whether his name was actually the name he told me tbh lol)

How long should I wait to find another lady after breaking up with my GF?

Why do you feel that you need a girlfriend?

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”
