Small things you can do to help others.

What are somethings you do to help others whenever you play runescape?

For example:

-Tell others about Arhien's pineapples and seaweed and Zaff's battlestaffs.

[hide=If you don't know about this...]You can buy pineapples and seaweed from Arhein in Catherby for very cheap (2gp ea or so), but only 40 and 80 a day(respectively). Pineapples sell for 92 ea and seaweed for over 120ea on ge.

Zaff in varrock sells 8 battlestaffs every day for 7k, these go for over 8kea on ge.[/hide]-I drop some extra food at barrows when I can see that I don't need it all, usually 1-2 pineapple pizzas, hoping they will help someone going by.

-Everytime I log out for the last time at night, I lend out my dragon axe to someone at varrock yews for 12-14+ hours.

[hide=short story about the Dragon axe]I tried to borrow one for half an hour so I could level up to 75 woodcutting with it but no one would lend it.

I had 800k and a whip in my bank, I sold the whip for 1.6M and bought the axe for 1.8M.

Since then I told myself that as long as I haven't sold the axe I would always lend it out when I'm not using it.

Now whips are at 1.5M and D axes are at 2M, 300k profit by accident (if I sold it now)[/hide]

{edit} I changed the title so it would fit with the other two "Small things..." threads.

I'm pleased to hear i'm not the only person who tries to help people. Here's a quite obvious one that comes across to me a lot.

If someone comes to you and asks you for directions then don't call them a noob, just tell them. If your not doing anything special i'm sure you can take the time to take them there yourself, I have many great conversations with people im guiding around.

Oh joy ANOTHER one of these threads

What I'd like to see to help other is

1) Everyone stop jumping on the band wagon when a title does well, just because one "Small things" thread did well doesn't mean its cool or effective to copy it, it just shows that you need to try and steal focus because your thread lack its own merit

2) I wish people would stop making these pointless lists on how to help people. We all KNOW how to do these helpful things and WILL do them if we want them, the only reason to post these thing is to draw attention to the fact your doing them which in itself is a selfish motive as you just want people to go oh well done your such a nice person doing these little tiny things that 75% of rs players do everyday without finding the need to post another thread about it.

These are just boring threads that die quickly because its not original or unique and ultimately is jsut a means to massage your own ego under the guise of doing something charitable.

As long as they don't start begging for free stuff, I'm always willing to put whatever I'm doing on hold and help out a new player in anyway I can. Be it providing information, helping with a quest or just chatting with them. :)

If I find that the player really is new to the game and not just some guy on a noob account hoping people will give him a few free gps (you'd be surprised how many people do that) I give them a set of iron armour and take them on a tour of the nearby areas, telling them of combat trainning spots, mining locations, etc...

Edit:

just because one "Small things" thread did well doesn't mean its cool or effective to copy it.
This may not be relevant but I'm listening to "All the small things" right now.

Pretty much what Dragon said.

Thread terminated.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post.

there is 1 big problem when u help lower lvs, they tend to keep coming to u for more help, thats no problem when they ask for advice. but its more ennoying when they want u to show them something or give, borrow objects

1: Actually take the time to listen to peoples requests

2: Stick up for the loew levels. I saw a level 65 fire bolting metal drags the other day, perfectly harmless, doing as everybody else, then two 100-110 players came along and were just plain rude to her, me being 120+ stuck up for her. If i hadn't been there it would have continued the cycle of high levels rude to newbs, newbs growing up to be rude to other newbs etc.

Well the one small thing I do is I go all out. I pick a newb(say this respectfully as a new player) and I guide them around for a while make them iron or steel and then becomes friends. I am happy to say that 2 of the 5 newbs are now somewere in the level 60's and one has done dragon slayer with my help. As for the other 3 1 quit at level 40 one Is a better merchant then me and he was crushed when my merchant advise for him failed. But he is back on his feet useing the ge. My merchant way is I bought gems and runes at the lumbrige genral store and selling them to players. The last one is a woodcutter. A very good one. Level 79. Firemakeing that is. He is 87 woodcutting. I am no longer in constant contact with them because they got friends from other thing so we only ocasionaly talk. Once in a while we bump into each other because we all use the same world.

In fact, I do have some pancake mix.

Go to the rants forum in RSOF if you're going to flame people like this.

1) He put "small things" in the title to go along with the theme. Not to "steal" somebody else's title -.-

2) It gives people encouragement. Example: Player A has been giving noobs iron armor he smiths for months. He never sees anybody being nice like him so he thinks it's hopeless. Player B posts a thread about doing charitable deeds and his fervor is restored.

I always help people who need directions or have questions and such. I teleother people for free if they need one. I've also let people use the teleports in my house. I might start lending out my axe when I go to bed, that didn't even occur to be to be honest (don't ask me why). I don't really give people stuff, though.

I'm entitled to my own opinion on things, just because it happens to disagree with a thread doesn't instantly make it a flame or a rant.

Numer0 is right about the title, when I changed the title all three threads were right next to each other and the organized part of my brain let out a little yip of satisfaction.

@lcchs

I've only had one person ask me for more than I gave him when I lent him my axe, and that was to lend it out to him when I didn't need it the next day as well, so I did.

Imagine how much different everyday playing would be if people simply lent out their useful items when logging off, it takes hardly any effort and you lose nothing. (One person lent me a yellow partyhat before, even though no one saw me while I was chompy hunting with it it still felt pretty awesome)

I bless graves, answer questions, donate small needed items, and stand up for people being picked on. It's never fun to be called a noob.

Just yesterday I was chopping yews by the famous cabbage patch and someone needed 10 oak logs on the spot, so I stopped and chopped him some. Today someone in the woodland needed rabbit snares, and I figure from now on I'll be hunting chinchompas, so I fairy tele'd, unbanked them, and brought them for him. I do this in hope that someone will do it for me if I ever need it...

I try to help people by giving advice when asked. I direct people to certain places, give tips on quests etc.

I also help the general community by reporting rule-breakers whenever I see them :D

Pretty much the same here. I've lost count of the number of raw sharks that I've given away whilst fishing in Catherby due to people needing them for that quest, (you know the one, the one that I can't spell). The only problem is, the other day it backfired on me - somebody was in Catherby asking where the food stalls were so that he could train thieving, and he wouldn't believe me when I said that he needed to go to Ardougne. He ended up being pretty rude to me and so I had to add him to ignore list :(

Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price.

i really do try to help completely new players in the game. I dislike how ppl always complain about newbs not knowing wat to do. they come out of tut island saying "how do i fight things?" this is a common stereotype. and besides it really isnt there fault. it is partially ours for not taking the time to take them out. I am actually the type that would guide them through the game. I am not so high leveled myself but i know a fair lot about the f2p world. when ppl look like they need help i help them. i give them a tour on parts of f2p rs and wat activities etc. show them world map. knowledge base. sometimes tip it <3: and they r set. i like to help ppl because i remember someone level 60 helped me when i was a newb and it benefited me a lot. so i try to do the same thing.
