Nomrombom
Over 6000 people die every day in the United States alone. Why are those who died by a falling building more worthy of remembrance than those who die by murder, or by car crash? Was half trolling, half totally serious. The concept of 2,000 (Closer to 3000 iirc) people dying at once is a result of one event is probably more shocking than the fact that 6000 people die a day by other means in the USA. Especially considering that those 3000 people or so were completely healthy, and their deaths weren't a result of an accident, and that it was preventable. After doing all the math, I figured out that about 9000 (completely serious here) people die due to hunger just during school hours (assuming around 7:30 to 3). During school, on ONE day, 9000 people die due to hunger, which is EASILY and entirely preventable. But you don't hear anything about that. The news networks don't give a single [bleep] about that, and therefore the people probably don't either. My real problem I guess is that people act like the attack was the most massive thing to ever occur and that it needs to be honored and remembered and we need a full goddamn week of all 9/11 programming. I believe people SHOULD mourn, and should remember those who died. Just PLEASE don't push it in my face and demand that I feel the same. H2PM
Honestly, the only time I saw a show about 9/11 was today. And everywhere I look around my town, people are going about the day. They're not stopping what they're doing because of an attack 10 years ago. Now that could be understandable for some people in New York City, but honestly, you're over exaggerating a lot. Albel
Got up about an hour ago. Im getting ready for a concert that I'm playing in. It is a tribute to the 9/11, so it will be very emotional to say the least. I'm really happy to be part of the tribute, it's my first concert with the local town band and hopefully there will be many more to come. The only 9/11 related anything I've seen so far today: a) optional remembrance ceremony at my school (but we do remembrance ceremonies for everything) that I didn't go tob) article on the front page of wikipedia, which makes complete sense being therec) 9/11 threadd) your poorly thought out argumentse) some football player wearing american flag colored gloves and cleats Go ahead and turn on the news to any major network. I bet they're doing something related to 9/11 either right now or will be within an hour. Head outside, there might be ribbons placed on telephone poles like they have here. Go on Facebook, bet half the statuses today have something to do with it. In my school there's a huge table right in the middle of the main hall with a big poster on it, and sharpies to write things. Flip through some channels, I bet there are plenty of 9/11 related documentaries and such on many channels. And if you express an opinion that 9/11 wasn't that bad, or that by remembering and fearing it so much the terrorists goals are accomplished (terrorism...terror) you're going to be labeled as the biggest jerk alive. Oh, and don't forget the huge memorial service for it in New York that is probably holding up massive amounts of traffic. And the two wars or so started at least partially because of those events. I think it's worse when the people complaining about Facebook status clogging are the ones who post terrible statuses daily ("I miss him/her so much" "[random song lyrics]") Those people whine during the Superbowl, the World Cup, when Bin Laden died, pretty much anything when people's attention aren't focused on their whiney statuses. Sbrideau
I hate it that the news make such a big deal about 9/11, I know it happened 10 years ago, and I'm good with the memorials and everything, especially for the people that went in to save others, but died doing so. But the fact that I almost never watch TV, and the little TV I watched this week was all about 9/11, except for a movie yesterday. It annoys me that they're putting so much hype on this without putting much light on the heroes. Anyway, for me today I'm pretty much going to be on the road, so I'll guess I'll come back to this topic when I'm home.

I read that, thinking you mean that since it is, after all, it is that thread, people shouldn't be criticizing people for complaining about whatever is annoying them. Then I realized it was the Today thread.
Hawks
I feel like cabbage today. Brother is out saluting the flag for a bit as part of a Boy Scout thing; they take turns and line up to salute the flag the entire day at the area museum. I've never actually gone, I really should. At least I have no student council garbage tomorrow during seminar... can just tune out the world, listen to some music, and maybe draw something. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
Jeffwilson99
Chill Rocco, you don't need to result to using insults. Presumably if you don't watch any major news networks, the ones Nom is referring to about over-covering 9/11, then how can you try and counter it by saying "The only 9/11 related anything I've seen so far today:" is A,B,C etc? Furah
Played D&D for the first time yesterday. I like a lot. Thinking of going out w/Ryan instead of my other "friends". After the camping incident in Jan', I've been finding it hard to call them reliable friends who stick up and help each other. If anything they're horribly selfish and only act on their own needs and desires. |: EDIT: Provided he doesn't mind and reads this before he does go out. EDIT 2: JESUS [bleep] IM STARVING. Haven't eaten anything in 30 or so hours. *orders Chinese*I only went to a friend's house. Had like 3 beers before we went to bed. PhaperPlane
TIF, I am in need of your help. Today, I moved to University and I'm in Cambridge and I know I should be living the life but my problem is that I'm scared and worried. In fact, I have tears in my eyes while I'm writing this. I am meeting up with a friend of mine tomorrow but I'm still scared. I don't enjoy going to clubs as I don't like the loud music and I don't enjoy getting drunk (I enjoy the casual drink here and there). Help me TIF, how can I relax, calm down and enjoy myself? Omar
Clubbing sucks ass. Don't worry about it. You probably won't enjoy going to parties much either if you don't drink, but hey, it's a pretty big waste of time. It's like only enjoying very healthy food right out of the womb. In a sense, it's a gift. You'll have more time to do something useful. Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. Don't worry about it. In a sense, it's a gift. Beautifully put. There's none of that amazing campus life, really. There's no need to put yourself in a situation you know you'll find uncomfortable just because it's what "normal" people do. These forums are full of people who'll tell you to force yourself but you seem pretty much like me in the sense that the new environment is already enough of a challenge, let alone the expectations of conforming to absolutely terrible things that are a waste of time and money. Think about the productive things you could do using the time other people waste on getting absolutely mashed and making idiots out of themselves. I'm a loner by choice so it might be different for you, though as Omar said, it's hardly a bad thing if you don't enjoy it. It's just that people are judgemental c**ts who are influenced by awful television such as Skins et. al. I once knew a pretty nice guy who turned into one of those judgemental c**ts after he went to university. We shared many decent conversations and then he decided he was going to suddenly have a social life and look down on anyone who doesn't. Probably calmed down now, but yeah. Uni changes people for the worse a lot of the time. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
