Winter swimming is a thing here and I haven't kept up with it this year, might be why I am sick. Not a single time last year, but then again last year I went swimming 2 times a week nearly all winter long. Sauna to the side aswell though.

But yeah, had nothing to do with raw meat, I don't eat raw meat.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

Last night I went to a social event hosted by one of the clubs at my school with my friend. We were expecting to meet people there, but nobody showed up (We only invited one other person, but he had work. We were expecting other people to happen to show up. It had happened before.), so we joined one of the pre-existing groups and socialized with them. Oh yeah, the event was bowling, by the way. There is a punchline to this story, I swear. Anyway, the group that we socialized with had some cool people and some maaaaaaad awkward people. Like, more awkward than me, and I'm mega awkward. So after bowling, we decided to go to a diner and... Yeah, this is a lot of build up for a not so great punchline, so I'll just jump straight to that (The punchline).

There was a kind in the group who wore a fedora and ordered Mountain Dew at the diner. I thought it was hilarious.

Had a really great weekend. I turned 20 yesterday (hard to believe), so on Friday a couple of my best friends drove five hours from home to hang out for the weekend and experience a taste of the college life. On Friday night we all just hung out with a bunch of other people and got really drunk and played video games and listened to music and stuff which was awesome. On Saturday we were fairly tired/hungover but we went to Capitol Hill and looked at a ton of cool stores and ate unhealthy food. Then we saw a concert that night (The Horrors) which was actually a great show despite us previously not really listening to them at all. And today we just ate more and enjoyed the great weather before they had to head back.

It was a really welcome break from the intense workload I've had so far this quarter. But now I'm back at it once again.

Started planning out my computer upgrades for the year as a break from endless midterm studying. As some people on the internet kindly pointed out, I was planning on spending about $250 on the most marginal CPU upgrade in history, and I will instead be making the jump from AMD to Intel processors (I was planning on getting an FX, but they barely outperform my current Phenom II in a number of important aspects). This is assuming that the upgrade budget will take a very sharp price increase.

Assuming I get what I want, my computer will be getting an i5-4960k, a new mobo to mount it on, and a new case to house it. I should have gotten the new case last year, would have balanced out the costs better.

Yeah, Intel is a bit more pricey than AMD, but nowadays they outperform AMD by quite a bit.

I am personally starting to plan a full new build, but as it seems, I'll probably wait at least till next spring so that the current component's price get pushed down by the new parts that are coming out lately (Haswell-e, DDR4, all that stuff).

In the meantime I've already started replacing outside parts, replaced my old Keyboard with a Corsair K70 (with Cherry MX Blue), and the mouse with a Logitech M500, as well as the router (because the old one was giving up) by a Linksys WRT1900AC (although they failed their open-source promise, but still is a beast of a router).

So let's just say I ripped a hole in the sleeve of my jacket (caught on a fence) last year.  It's not that big of a deal but I think I could, carefully, just tape it back.  Would duct tape or whatever hold?  Is it worth trying a tailor shop to see if they'll fix it for say $5?

Learn to sew or make friends with a cosplayer. String and a needle is super cheap. Alternatively, a professional tailor will do a professional job, but will be considerably more expensive than if you learned to do it yourself. Pending the material of the jacket and the size of the hole it'll be under $15 for most repairs.

But tailors are usually super chill, so if you buy a tie or something and casually mention that the jacket youre wearing has a hole in it they'll probably do it super [bleep]ing cheap (the last suit I bought I got tailored for free because i bought shoes and a pocket square at the same time and the guy was making commission)

Think it will help you get invited to more parties?  :P

It depends on the type of jacket/material but you could easily sew it yourself, patch it, or take it to an local tailer and get them to do it for cheap. I got a small tear in a Patagonia jacket early spring and I fixed with a small piece of clear tenacious tape that still holds to this day.

I was cleaning my apartment this morning and in the process I opened up a piece of junk mail form Time Warner Cable that surprised me by announcing that my internet speeds have been bumped from 30/5 mbps to 200/20 mbps for free. I obviously hadn't notice a speed change so I ran a speed test and got this:

Obviously not the 200/20 I'm suppose to have, but a huge speed boast nonetheless. To reach 200/20 I apparently need to upgrade my modem but it's currently out-of-stock everywhere, so I'll have to wait..

I'm jealous of that free internet upgrade...the only thing my internet company hiked was the price at one point!

My second round of midterms is starting soon. Why we have three midterms per semester I will never understand...

That's kinda ridiculous, 2 a semester is bad enough

Wouldn't those be quarter terms? (The three)
