2 more exams ticked off the list. Both of them are considered to be among the most difficult tests, not because the actual subject is hard but rather because the exams are kinda bs. One of them often have graphs and figures that are difficult to work with, and the questions can sometimes be very unclear in terms of what exactly is asked of you. The other one is kind of the same, except with different graphs/figures. To add insult to injury, one is a 35 question paper, and the other is 25. It really just depends on the luck of the draw. Both of my papers had piss-easy theory and fairly easy graphs, except that one of the questions gave me the wrong graph to use so i was kinda [bleep]ed there. Just so relieved i got them out of the way.

Ironically the 25 question paper was considered to be one of the easiest a year or two back, but then they went and changed the format a bit by replacing a few theory questions with calculations and over night it turned into one of the hardest.

There's a bakery near my hotel and i go there pretty much every day cause they sell the most delicious sandwiches. So i just went to go buy some and the girl that helped me gave me her number. She doesn't speak a lick of english. So like... i don't really know what's the use.

And by now, the painkillers have run off again.

I have finished cleaning my home. I thought I would be done by Saturday... nope. Then Monday... How wrong I was. I stayed up nearly 30 hours from Tuesday to Wednesday, spent the majority of it cleaning. Nearly done that Wednesday night, and I finally finished today.

It is so clean and organized. It's beautiful. I still have a few non-important things left, like sort lEGO bricks (rather than have them in a few bins), but that's for another day.

Been invited to a potluck.

Mission "make more Canadian friends" is accomplished.

Literally dunno what I'm meant to bring though or whether you're meant to dress up fancy?

Bring food if you want to or are able to. Of in doubt ask whoever invited you. Generally worst comes to worse if you bring something yourself at least you can garuntee you'll like something there. Dress would depend on the context of the invitation as potlucks can happen across many different social settings.

Bring a main dish if there's meant to be a full dinner. Usually pot lucks end up with too much desert and too little real food.

Bring literally anything that you want and that you think other people might enjoy. I don't know about Canadian potlucks, but if you don't bring anything to an American potluck then people think you're a dick.

Dress is dependent on context like Bonez said.

So what, do people normally roll up with a cake of some sort ? I feel like I want to be painfully English and make a trifle but I don't have the time so I'll probably just buy some cake if that would be acceptable.... :s

I do feel like I can only really manage a dessert as I have no idea what main dishes people would want and I can't trust my cooking ?

I said I'd bring some soft drinks because my friend said normally people drink alcohol and there's never enough mixer. I'll wear something casual then cause the cold will slaughter me in anything fancy that I have to wear.

In other news I'm performing in a marching band in Montreal. Sounds fun and all but I have a Sean Paul gig hours before and the uniform for the band is expensive but it'll probably serve as a souvenir from my time in Canada.

Feels close to my return home now yey

I've come to actually enjoy cooking and experimenting with making "real food". Suck it college-me

I've been cooking since my teens, I love being able to just throw shit together and know from experience that it's going to work and taste great.

Pot lucks are usually like cold salads, appetizers, quick bites type of meals. Usually the host will kind of mention like "Yeah, we're doing a pot luck Saturday, I'm making burgers/grilling chicken.." to kind of clue you in. But if you said you're bring soft drinks, I wouldn't worry much unless you want to grab chips or something. I usually try to stick to like a $10 limit as an invitee.

I have to be honest, I feel really happy that I've been invited to this.

I came back after the Christmas break feeling really crap and lonely because loads of my friends left because they were all exchange students and were only here for a semester. I have so much doubt in my ability to function in social situations but I know that the doubt is stupid because I genuinely have loads of friends back home. The people who don't like me are people I've personally offended or done something to make them dislike me but otherwise I get along with the vast majority of people that know me. Maybe it's because they don't know me well enough  :D

So I started my action plan to make some more friends (Preferably Canadian ones so I could actually do social activities with Canadians rather than getting drunk all the time with people from Europe which was fun but not really the point of a year abroad). I reconnected with a girl I met at homecoming whose birthday I went to in December and I invited her out to come to my birthday two weeks ago.

I'm really happy I reconnected with her because I feel like she was kind of mad at me because she invited me to her Halloween party but I had been drunk three days consecutively around Halloween and I was in no state to go. I think she was down because there was a low turnout. She didn't really talk to me any more but I continued to make an effort with her and she invited me to her birthday.

I bought her some chocolates and went out for her birthday. Since then we've messaged each other a little bit and I've met a couple of her friends.

It's weird because I see myself in her in some ways. Like on the outside she's really friendly, bubbly and happy but I think it really hurts her when people don't show up when they say they will. The people at her birthday were her boyfriend, me, and her roommate and roommate's boyfriend. It just feels like no matter how many friends you think you make, no one really has time for you. I was proved wrong by how popular my birthday was but that's the first birthday I've ever had where I did things with people. I've just never bothered because I already feel like no one would show up if I asked them to do anything.

I'm in a marching band and should be performing in Montreal in March. I went to a social with the other saxophonists on Sunday and it was really nice. Time is passing by so quickly and I'm happy about it. It feels like a prison sentence sometimes despite the good times. My housemates are legends but I really just want to see my family and friends from home now lol.

Kinda funny, I had a good day today. Had Physiology class and I was just talking about the UK to some people who were asking me questions.

This guy then asks if there are any countries in the world without any educational institutions and then asks if there are any Universities in the Caribbean and why people study there if there are any.

It made me laugh because it kind of sums up my opinion of this Uni. There are great people here, great societies and I've had some brilliant times - sober and wasted.

But there's an overwhelming sense that a good amount of the people here don't really want to associate with people who are from a different social class to them or want to know anything about the world.

A lot of people here are smart but both ignorant and arrogant and I'm not even upset about it anymore. I'm just amused but it makes me love home even more.

I got asked if we have electricity.

Or if I know what a mobile is.

And that was in 2008.

Hedge, that has been passed around the internet for ages. I can't imagine it started here (granted who would believe it if I said chat roulette started here - which it effectively did).

Cooking 101:

Rice

Meat pick one

Vegetable pick as many as you want

Throw it in a pan and heat

Cooking 063:

Rice

Shredded cheese

Beans

Cook and mix

Delicious

In a typical Southern America fashion, a tiny bit of ice means constant power flickers and then a power outage for over three hours.

I happened to be playing Bloodborne and then the power went out. Over 10 hours lost.

I'm really pissed. Really, really pissed.

It is absolutely mind-boggling how you guys react to the most minuscule amounts of snow.

We have 15 inches of snow and -25 degrees Celsius outside and it is like nothing has happened. You don't really see that much people outside as usual, but the traffic is the same, all schools and workplaces work, nothing really.

Places that don't frequently get snow don't have the infrastructure/habits built up to deal with it. If Estonia suddenly started getting tornadoes your reactions would seem funny to anyone living in the midwest.
