WHOA it's been a while since you've popped in here, how's life man?

This has been a pretty good weekend so far. Yesterday I ended up going bowling with some coworkers and met up with some college friends after. I got to play Pokken for the first time there and it was really fun even if I had no clue what I'm doing. It's a shame the wii u was such a shitty console because some of the games seem really fun if I had the disposable income for them.

Also just got back from buying a new sound system. Everything sounded incredible in the shop and I'm super ready to not have to deal with terrible laptop speakers anymore haha. Now I just have to finish shopping for a new laptop. ;_;

'tis good. I'm working as an electrician while still plugging away at my engineering degree. Also lifting and throwing people in my spare time as shown.

Not sure if I actually want to be an engineer or I'm wasting 35 grand but I am enjoying the study

Ayyy what's up Dan!

Long time no see. I'm unfortunately too frail to go human tossing, but it looks fun

[bleep]in' hot in 'ere.

Was kayaking in Lan Ha Bay, then went rock climbing for the first time ever, managed to step on some coral and slip on some sharp shells... Also swam in the bioluminescent plankton and overnighted on a boat. During a tropical storm.

Then went for a true jungle hike. Got absolutely soaked with my [bleep]ing special waterproof hiking jacket all the way and including my underwear. Luckily it is warm in the jungle.

Right now, I have 9 wounds on my right leg and 5 on left leg. Also abrasions and blisters on toes for I am NOT used to flip-flops. Luckily most of the wounds are sharp cuts that are less than an inch and not too deep, but still bought a package of a hundred band-aids. Predicting to be out before the end of the trip.

If here weren't 20 cent beers and great food, I'd be super pissed. Or well, I am still pissed, but in a different way.

Holy shit, Randox. Were ya drinking?

I wish.

Sounds like you're having a great time Saq. Either way, it sounds like some great experiences, and you'll probably look back on it all and laugh, if you aren't laughing now. Reminds me of a camping trip a few years back where a couple guys who set up their tent with the groundsheet sticking out a bit, and woke up the next morning to find several inches of standing water in the low corner of their tent. That was kind of the recurring theme for them on that trip, though I think they still had lots of fun regardless.

Sleeping on a boat in a storm actually sounds kind of fun (to me), though I might go for something a little smaller. Depends on the boat too. Slept on my Uncles sailing yacht once. Not sure if it was the weather or the design, but there was so much condensation inside the next morning it was basically raining. Of course, I was young and didn't care, because I got to sleep on a boat.

Cold here. Just...cold. For the Americans, it's been low 60's during the day, and into the 40's at night (17 in the day, 7 at night).

In fun times news, I finally dealt with my old laptop. I've been neglecting it for years, since I never really use the thing, but my PC can't reach my TV anymore in my new place, so I'm using the laptop as my new media centre, and I need the thing to work without jumping through ridiculous hoops. Reinstalling windows has given the machine a new lease on life, but running Windows Vista isn't exactly where I want to be, so I've decided to throw Cub Linux on as a dual boot (which I am using now).

So far so good. Linux is a lot lighter than vista, so my laptop is probably faster now than when I bought it (6 years ago), and it's much more up to date, so it's coping better with the modern world. Unfortunately, I did have to drop Chromium for Chrome, so I can watch Netflix, but on the bright side, it imported all my settings, so that's nice. The Chromium logo looked cooler though.

It went from being high 80s, low 90s this weekend to low 60s today. I regretted not having on pants.

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

One major downfall about living in my province: everything is sky-high expensive.

Nothing like a high cost of living to eat away at your salary. I've been starting to look into cost of living around Canada myself, thinking about future employment. I am thinking about taking a job that could see me posted in other parts of the country, but the pay doesn't change if that happens, and my money will go much further where I am now than in someplace like Vancouver or Toronto.

In other news, I've discovered that some of my laptops performance issues are simply age related, and not because its installation of Windows was figuratively sinking like Atlantis. In particular, my poor laptop legitimately stuggles to palyback HD media content. I think it can handle normal 720p from youtube, but playing anything recorded at 60fps causes a stutter ever few seconds. It seems to warm up to Netflix at least, though I don't think it's hitting HD resoltions.

For the most part, it's not a huge issue, and it can still handle Blu-Ray DVD's and such, it's just an annoyance. On the upside, the wireless card is as strong as ever, so it's not struggling to buffer or anything. I also noticed that I can indeed move the clock in Linux, which is good, because not having it right in the bottom right corner was driving me loopy.

has TIF been really slow for anyone else lately? the main forum page loads instantly but as soon as I click on OT or any other forum, it takes like half a minute to load :|

It loads quickly for me. What does the bit at the bottom of the forum say?

Example: "Time Now: Sep 28 2016 09:12 AM Last Visit: Yesterday, 08:47 PM Exec. Time: 0.1767 Load: -- Queries: 20 queries Gzip: GZIP Enabled "

Narrowed down between 2 different choices for apartments, and now I can't decide if I want to go with the apartment whose layout I like more, or the apartment which is basically the same but which is $65/mo cheaper.

Why is this such a difficult choice lmao

The less expensive apartment has the bedroom at an angle, which looks and feels really awkward, and really messes with how the space feels, even though they each have the same square footage. The kitchen is also more cramped on it, mostly because of the weird bedroom angle.

Edit: Oh. I just looked at website pictures, and one of the walls is blue in the more expensive apartment. Thinking about it and who I am as a person, that's probably 80% of the reason I like it more, which is a dumb reason lmao. Okay, gonna do the other one, I think.

How much time are you planning to spend in your new place? But regardless $65/month isn't that much in the whole picture of things.

I tried making a simple script to automatically remove an old CMake build directory and then execute CMake to rebuild said directory to reflect new changes to parameters.

But a small typo meant it ended up removing the source directory.

I now have a cron job that executes on the hour to make a local copy of my user folder so I don't lose more than one hour (and especially not 8 hours) of work again.

Also made a script to upload the backup to my home server, but I have to run that manually since I encrypt the archive before upload. Once a day is good...
