Some butthead with an IP in India tried to access my primary email account which would have been awful because as my primary it has access to probably every password I've ever created. Fortunately my email provider was like "lol this guy isn't from India" and blocked the attempt. Mostly frustrating because I've gone almost 10 years without this issue, but less than 24 hours after my provider demanded I make my account more secure (and I changed my password just to make the notification I've had for months finally go away) an attempt is made to "hack" me. Obviously my shit was secure enough and then as soon as I comply with the demand to be more secure, I get attacked. Thanks Obama.

Surely your likelihood of being attacked is independent of your password strength or whether you have 2 factor authentication.

I use Proton Mail for anything important.

The password used to log in is 32 characters of data from /dev/urandom run through base64. The password used to decrypt the mailbox is also 32 characters of data from /dev/urandom.

I store said passwords in my password manager. It's protected by 15 word passphrase. The password manager is also stored on my encrypted disk, which is protected by a separate 15 word passphrase, or in physical backups, which are protected by another 15 word passphrase.

The passphrases are generated from a dictionary of 10,000 words.

I highly doubt even state actors are capable of accessing my email so long as Proton Mail's promises about its client are true.

Somehow I knew that veiva's email security would have an integrity that makes Fort Knox look like a gas station haha

Honestly, I am considering of moving over all my important passwords and accounts to a new mail address. Over the past 7 years I've had little trouble with my current mail address, but it would help clean up the mess I made in the past. Likely that, if I do this, the current mail address will still be used for the day to day usage, but anything related to an account will move over to the new one. Probably will try to make it more secure too, but what Veiva has done might indeed be over the top.

I enter two passphrases at most a few times a day: the password manager passphrase and my disk passphrase. Just depends on how often I turn off my computer. My computer is off whenever I'm not home or if I'm sleeping.

Proper security practices are really not much more effort if implemented correctly.

Regardless, I really suggest Proton Mail for an email host if you don't need IMAP support.

I only have the loosest idea of what IMAP is/does but I may look into Proton

IMAP lets you use an email provider with any email client. For example, Thunderbird or Outlook.

Proton Mail does have apps for iOS and Android, so for most it makes no difference. I use Thunderbird for non-sensitive e-mail accounts. It helps create a distinction between sensitive and non-sensitive to prevent mistakes. It's why I have two user accounts, for example: one for unimportant doodling and one for important work.

If only a certain democratic candidate held your knowledge of emails haha. I for some reason have always been opposed to email apps or just in general opening/using email on a mobile device. It's secured desktop or nothing. Maybe it's slightly paranoid, but I trust my desktop more than my phone for no reason in particular

I made an attempt to add a player sprite (it's wearing a primal chestplate and a shadow silk hood)

It looks a lot better than the stupid white square, but man I need to get a lot better at drawing. And I need to figure out how to make it stand out better against the background

You could try some kind of a lighter color that outlines the character which is not used extensively in the background.

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

If we are talking about Celsius, then it has never ever even been +40 here. But it has been -40 :) .

In general, our summers peak with something like 32 degrees celsius. And right now we have -2 outside. Nice and slippery.

Anyone in here has played or is playing disc golf? It's a fun game, doesn't take too much effort nor funds (until you get crazy into it, which is easy to do).

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

Never played disc golf, although I have thought about it before, just never had/made a chance. The second half though is true of most hobbies though, generally there is a low entry/starting cost but you can likely spend as much as you want on it.

I haven't played in a few years, but I used to play a fair amount of it. It really is fun as long as everyone in your group is around the same skill level.

In my project, I use a server-client setup. There's a single server that handles dispatching messages to clients. The protocol is implemented in a C++ library.

And I sped up the send method by 145x in my project. I use move semantics instead of copying data everywhere. It's amazing how much faster everything is.

That's a great idea. I would recommend steering away from Mongo though since it's notoriously lousy to work with when you have relational data. I recommend using Postgre, but there are a ton of good options out there. Or, honestly, you could get by with just redis.

Today I got paid ~$90 after taxes/held wages to talk shit on a guy who didn't understand that corporations are people but LLC's are entities and browse reddit while I contemplate jumping out of my 13th story window. Dear lord I hope Rogue 1 is worth it tomorrow

As a somewhat big Star Wars fan, I am not at all excited for Rogue One. I'm sure it won't be a complete cash grab or anything, but I just have no investment in the characters. I don't think I'm going to go see it until I know that it will be worth my time/money.

I'm super excited for Rogue One. It's great to be able to experience the new EU as from the beginning as new content comes out. A lot more people will be able to participate in in-depth Star Wars discussion now that they aren't 10 years too late to jump into an established EU.

I mean, it's hard to have emotional investment in characters you've never seen because this is a brand new movie.

Holy shit the characters in Rogue One are good. Like you can pretend it's not a star wars movie and it's still fantastic. I'd love a prequel prequel about some of the Rogue fighters (mainly the Mongolian Heavy and the Monk dude). I say it this way to not spoil anything because I think all star wars movies are enjoyed best with as little spoiled as possible. Even with prior star wars knowledge, the crazy shit that happens is so much fun to watch. I loved it

So i have somewhat of a messed-up story... It's kind of confusing, but i'll try to simplify it as much as i can.

The people involved are Me, my sister, the girl i'm seeing (who's also my sister's "best" friend), the guy my sister is seeing (who's also a really close friend of the girl i'm seeing), and the girl i'm seeing's gay best friend (who's also the brother of the guy my sister is seeing). I just realised, saying it like that already makes this sound very redneck. To make things easy i'll just refer to the girl i'm seeing as A, the guy my sister is seeing as B, and the gay brother/best friend as C.

So my sister introduced me to A a few weeks back. We hit it off immediately. Went on a date a few days later. Pretty much followed the generic path most people do during the "development phase" of a new relationship. After about 3 weeks we both came to an "agreement" that we wanted to be exclusive. Up until now i thought things were pretty normal, following a normal path. Obviously this is when the twist came. I was on my way to go see A one night when i got a phone call from my sister. She told me the following:

B and C apparently had a conversation in which my "relationship" with A was brought up. C told B that A was only using me to get back at my sister. Get back at her for what? Well A and B were really close friends, but once my sister and B started showing interest in each other, A and B no longer hung out as much as they used to. To simplify it, A was mad that B was starting to spend more time with my sister than with her (A). She(A) felt as if my sister had "stolen" B from her, so she(A) was angry at my sister. So in her(A) mind, the best way to get back at my sister was to sleep with me. I know, i know... this makes no sense. Anyway.... the reason B knew this was because C had told him so after A had told him © so.

At the time it didn't really bother me too much because i really wasn't looking for a serious relationship anyway. To me A was not much more than just someone to hang out with and hook up with. But now... i feel like things are different. A is changing her behavior towards me. Starting to become slightly more serious. Our conversations are becoming a bit more meaningful, were starting to do things "normal" couples do, etc. And truth be told, it's confusing me ever so slightly.

Now when me and my sister spoke about this a few days ago she told me that A has been talking to her about me a lot. The way she's starting to feel about me, etc. Keep in mind that no one (except my sister) knows that i know everything. So A doesn't know that i'm aware of what she said/did. And truth be told, it's confusing me because a.) either A is playing the long game (the VERY long game), or b.) she's actually starting (or already started) seeing potential in our relationship.

I'm still not sure how i feel about the whole situation. On the one hand i don't really want to ruin a good thing. What we have is good. We have fun, a lot of fun. And i feel like i have the ability to control my emotions (as in completely keep emotions out of it) for now. When i spoke to my sister about this the other day she said that perhaps A's initial intentions were just to sleep with me, "get back at my sister" and then "dump" me, but now that we've gotten to spend more time together she's changed her mind. So the confusing part about all of this is that i'm not sure what to do. I feel like i should confront A about this, but i don't really want to deal with all the drama that comes with it (because it'll most likely create drama between my sister and B, A and B, B and C, and so on and so forth). But additionally i don't want to get bamboozled and end up being a centerpiece of A's long-game (assuming her feeling have not changed the way i think they have). It's only been a few weeks, so it's still very early to judge, but me and A are very compatible and i know that we can very easily have a very long term relationship.

So yeah...  this is fun...
