I talked a lot about Qatar tonight because I was drunk and Noxx speaks of life there often enough and I knew what I was talking about so... I'd just like to say thank you so much for continuing to post on these forums guys. You're all awesome and great and truly add a whole layer to who I am as a person for having communicated with you. Yes, all of you. Except you lurkers. [bleep] you and make an account so we can interact.

All my life I've never been confident in anything, but I can finally confirm that I actually am intelligent to some extent.

I was granted an academic scholarship for my master's degree which means I get £3000 deducted from my tuition fees.

It'll make a significant difference - I am over the moon.

Congrats!

How else would you have ever even known about a country as awesome as Estonia?

I didn't know that things were so backwards in the States that you cannot fill up your car/motorcycle/lawnmower yourself but had to have someone else do it. I mean, kindergarten kids do it in self-service stations here.

There are particular states where it is illegal due to 60 year old laws. It's not in any way a case of incapability, I literally don't understand that interpretation.

It's also only two states, so, like...

Back in South Africa, and even in Qatar, every gas station i've ever been to had someone to pump the gas for you. I don't think it's a matter of being backwards. Really don't see how anyone could draw that conclusion, if i'm being honest. Frankly i prefer having someone pump the gas for me. I get to sit on my ass, in my car, while someone pumps my gas, takes my money, and brings me my change.

Not too bad. I've been living on my own for about 2-3 years now in my own apartment. Looking to move in with a friend soon to make it a little bit more affordable. Been dating a guy for about 2 months now and things have been going well so far between us. I've patched quite a bit up with the family and I'm also legally changing my first name after July just out of personal reasons. Still haven't quite figured out what I'm doing career wise but I swore to myself to try and plan for something by the end of the year so I at least have a goal to work towards.

I mean seriously, don't the guys working there have anything better to do? I mean, even flipping burgers makes more sense. At least you do something that you need some minuscule training to and in which you have to adhere to some standards. Everyone can pump gas.

I've been to full service stations and they are easily more hassle. You have to wait for attendant, worry about whether they spill something on your car or whether they can even open the fuel cap, then mess with the cash... Usually the service is excruciatingly slow aswell. I could fill my tank three times over by the time I waited for the attendant.

I don't know of a single full service station in my whole country. I mean, in case you are disabled or really need assistance, there are buttons so that you can notify station attendants and they will help you, in the manned stations, but most of the stations are automatic. And as far as I know gas stations usually have a roof, so you don't really need to worry about weather or anything either.

In other news, if everything goes according to plan we'll drive through Oregon in autumn... Oh the irony.

Never realised creating jobs in a world where unemployment is prevalent in every country is a bad thing. Guess it's better to sit on a street corner and beg rather than do something as mundane as pumping gas for an income.

"Creating jobs" is fine, but if government policy is making it so people can't pump their own gas, that is much more problematic than any number of jobs that might be created.

I don't object to full service stations, I just think people should have the option

Full service stations are something that died out here during my lifetime. There is a premium for full service here, and gas just got too expensive for most people to want to spend that extra money, except if you were in a hurry and there was a lineup for all the self serve lanes. Few, if any, gas stations here still have full service pumps.

I expect the cost is less of an issue if full service is mandated by law. Even if there is a premium on the gas price associated with it, you aren't sitting there looking at a pump that's 5 cents cheaper right next to you. Out of sight, out of mind.

Umm, it is not prevalent in every country. We are actually having a dire lack of working people. There are seriously more job offers than unemployed people. The issue is so bad that it is hindering economic growth. Stores are getting automatic checkout counters not necessarily to spare costs, but because there simply aren't enough people to do the job of a cashier. Having the most shopping area per capita in EU is not helping in that either though...

I have not been unemployed for a single day. My first days of unemployment in my life (meaning when I am not a student or a child) start this autumn, when I am gonna have a month-long vacation in North and Central America and when I am going to New Zealand. In here I didn't even have to apply for a job, I left my CV on some portal when I was a student to do some part-time work and I got a call within a few days.

And immigration is not really an option here, considering how xenophobic we are. Something like 70 refugees were sent here by the EU quota system and about 50 of them have already left. Some even back to Iraq or Syria, it really is that bad for them here. Or well, not bad per se, but people do not look good on you. You guys ain't seen anti-migrant sentiment or violence.

Id also like to point out that NJ gas prices are among the lowest in the north east, possibly among the lowest in the country

Speaking of gas, I've spent maybe $100 in gas in 3,000 miles on my scooter.

If I had a car, I'd just get a motorcycle endorsement and buy a bit faster scooter (I long for a Genuine Buddy) and still spend little on gas. Car for poor weather, or when I need storage, scooter for everything else.

Of course, it's easier to die! But that's just half the fun.

Www.Gasbuddy.com/usa puts NJ at 35th out of 50 for cheapest gas, however it's worth noting that the number they associate with NJ is $2.440/gal when I haven't bought gas for more than $2.159/gal in years

It's amazing how much people are willing to pay in hidden taxes. It's actually a pretty serious policy probem, since there are a whole bunch of visible taxes that would be much more economically efficient if they replaced hidden ones, but they're politically unpopular (a carbon tax/vat is a good example).

I got turned down by an Estonian company. Their application was literally a quiz and I got like a 6/8 on it. They sent me a tshirt though. Very weird company
