What does Everclear even taste like? I'd imagine the ridiculously high alcohol concentration would overwhelm whatever flavor it has, but I've been wrong before.

Almost bumped the real life advice thread, but i figure more people will see it here.

I'm unemployed so to speak and my car will last me to the middle of 2015 if I'm lucky. I'm wondering what a better choice is: continuing to dip into my life savings only to survive, or buy myself a nice car and potentially delay moving out even further. I have about 10 grand I could spend on a new car, but I'd rather save that for if like my rent gets jacked randomly or something. I've never been without a significant financial security net of my own building (and even if that fails, I would still at least have a place to live) so spending everything I have before I have a "real" job just sounds terrifying to me. I intended to have found myself a nice "real" job by now but it turns out no one likes my resume or something. I plan on riding my car out until it inevitably dies completely. But I'm having trouble deciding if I want a nice car or a place of my own (especially after being offered a reasonable place not far from my house in March). What questions should I be asking myself to figure this out?

Everclear is practically pure ethanol. It tastes like gasoline.

Personally, I'd try to figure out which would be more useful overall to yourself. Depends on how much of an issue transport is, and how long you spend in your apartment everyday.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

I'd definitely go for apartment before. Public transport can't be that shitty.

At least in here it ain't... And I don't even have a driver's license so I don't know what it would change.

I'm going to regret asking this I'm sure, but how do you know what gasoline tastes like?

He's assuming that the ethanol content in gasoline rivals the ethanol content in Everclear. Also something something taste is 90% smell

Also isn't gas (even ethanol-based) only a small fraction ethanol? Like 10% in most cases?

I just assume gas and everclear are synonymous. Public transport is shitty where I live, but if I got a job in center city or even Trenton I could probably live without a car for a while. But I've had a car for 5 years now and I can't imagine not being able to go wherever whenever.

I'm in a mighty good mood and the feeling of motivation overwhelms me. Unfortunately, I have no hobbies and nothing that needs to be done, so I'm just sitting in my bed posting this hoping I either think of something to do or fall asleep.

I can get away with not having a car when I'm at school, but it's so hard to get around my hometown without a car. Literally the only place within walking distance is the grocery store.

Go try picking up one of those programming languages maybe? Learning something new could be fun *shrugs*.

That's actually a really good idea. I have a little more than codecademy-level python knowledge (mostly pygame). What are some nifty projects I can work on with that? I mean, "Games" is the obvious answer, but... actually, yeah, I guess I'll do that. Thanks for the idea.

I was going to say drain cleaner, but gasoline is good too. It's not an experience worth having whatever you ultimately decide it tastes like.

Neither is sex while driving if I'm being honest. Any car worth driving probably isn't conducive to a comfortable experience when sitting still, let alone while moving, and your subsequent death in a car accident will be nothing short of humiliating for you and all the people who survive you. If you are going to go for it though, do make sure it's a nice car. Comfort notwithstanding, it's more impressive if you die in a Corvette than a hopped up Civic or something.

@RPG the only way that avatar could get any better would be if you were wearing a tank top. A white one with bear stains. I really feel that would seal the deal, though plaid is pretty good too.

Any way, a very merry Christmas Eve to the OT crew, because I love you.

I made a rectangle move across the screen in pygame and then I remembered why I always give up on programming. It takes so much effort to do one little thing. Also, I'm pretty bad at it and I don't think it's that fun. That being said, I respect people's ability to code for hours on end day after day. I also realize that programming is a useful tool and stuff like that.

Tl;dr: I gave up (again)

:(

JavaScript's pretty easy to pick up, you just gotta pace yourself. Making a game right off the bat would overwhelm anybody. Just get the basics down first, read a textbook, practice a bunch, and you'll be fine.
