I may possibly pass my silver 1 promos, and binge watch an entire arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

My girlfriend got scammed on her lease so now she's homeless for 48 hours and out something like $950. The landlord has until Saturday to get his shit together legally, but there's gonna be so many pressed charges otherwise, and subsequently my girlfriend will be moving in with her mom and brother. What a day

I brielfy skimmed through an article earlier today about a man suing Etihad Airlines for seating him next to an obese person (think it was a man) on a 14 hour flight, and as a result he now suffers from back problems which has an impact on his sleep and career. All i can say is it's about damn time someone started suing for this bullshit. Hope he gets every single penny and more. It's time airline start getting their shit together.

Or maybe if you're to fat to fit in one seat you should pay for two.

Claiming that you suffer from back problems as a result of sitting next to an obese person seems a bit absurd, but I won't have much sympathy for the airlines if they're forced to pay out money. And I don't know about over there but here you can end up paying substantially more for a first class seat over a regular one. It's kind of a waste of money and you shouldn't have to pay that just to get something reasonable.

That is probably a worse solution and could maybe even encourage more lawsuits which I presume would be along the lines of 'Discrimination' or 'Mistreatment' for the large person(s). You'll be surprised how many times airlines get 'sued' on this very issue. If they have a problem with it, why can't the complainer pay for two seats?

On a side note, Etihad Airways have constantly ranked in the top 5 for Best Economy class. I can only imagine how abused the American airlines are getting on this issue.

Lol that's complete absurd logic. Why on earth would you ask the "complainer" to pay for two seats? He's not the one taking up more than his allotted space with his overly large body frame. If he's too fat to fit in his allotted space, he should pay for whatever extra space he's also likely to fill. And since you can't buy seats in fractions, his only option should be to pay the full price for two seats. I see no reason why an obese person should burden other innocents with his health issues. Be they hereditary or "self-inflicted".

Have you ever been seated next to an obese person for 10+ hours in economy seating? A person that takes up a good 20% of your already extreme small seat. If you are forced to contort your body to avoid making personal contact with that person, it's really no surprise he suffered a back injury. And yes, you are right. Business class is generally 3 times the price of economy. First class is anywhere from 4 - 5 times the price.

I don't see how it is absurd logic. Since I now understand you don't have an understanding how a business works, particularly airlines, how would airlines logistically manage your claim based on how an airlines receives information from its customers? With your logic, airlines would have to ask the customer's weight whilst they are making a booking and adjust the seating plan accordingly which only then they may ask the "obese" customer to pay for two seats.  How then, would that approach to managing this issue be solved with your logic? (theoretically I mean) as we both know you can't suddenly pay for two seats for both security reasons as well as the possibility of the flight being full. Also, the government would never allow this query from airlines based on Discrimination of customers.

I also agree that obese people should pay for extra seating. However, I don't think it could be possible.

EDIT 1: The flight for this Etihad lawsuit was full so they could not place him anywhere else. They even put him in the cabin crew seat for some of the flight so he would be less difficult.

You're misunderstanding me. I'm well aware of the legal and logistical issues that are likely to arise. Unless you buy the ticket over the counter, there really isn't much you can do. What i'm saying is they should (if by any force it was possible) be asked to pay for two tickets. There are ways to go about this, but it'll make the purchasing process just a lot more tedious than it has to be. And you'll get the overly sensitive folk crying about discrimination, mistreatment, etc. Point stands (and it's an opinion maintained by the majority), if you're too [bleep]ing fat to fit in one seat the airline should charge you for an additional seat. If the flight is fully booked, your flight should be rescheduled. There should be no reason and no excuse for you to jeopardize the safety and comfort of other passengers. Again, this is how it should work. And i understand that because of an overly sensitive public, and people getting offended by the smallest of things, this is something that is not likely to happen. I feel i should say this at least a few times just so you're aware that i know a business can't do this without legal implications.

Also, i find your edited text extremely funny. "so he would be less difficult". Like, are you [bleep]ing kidding me, hahaha. The guy spent money on a seat. He's unable to utilize the full space of his seat because of the enormity of the man sitting next to him. And you're calling him difficult? I don't even know what to say to that. That...i'm done.... Lol i'm just done.

I'd be furious if a sweaty thigh was spilling into my seat. I completely agree you should be forced to buy a second seat if you're too large for a single seat.

Well, philosophically I agree with you without hesitance however I believe that there is no way going about this issue without hurting the given airline. On your second point, I find it funny how to try to be condescending toward as If I am foolish to say that. What could they have done to assist him? It's mind numbing how you can't consider that he could of just left before take-off if he had a problem with it which he could of.

Do me a favor and look at the second picture in the article i posted above. That guy is a direct threat to the safety of the passengers on that flight. Not only that, but he'll have an impact on the comfort of anyone that has to pass him during any stage of the flight. Do you think it's fair of him to sit where he's sitting? Do you think it's fair to the rest of the passengers? Let's assume they have to make an emergency landing, and they're forced to get on their hands and knees to crawl to the exit (to avoid cabin smoke). Do you think the guy will even fit in the aisle on his hands and knees? Very unlikely. So in this event, you're asking everyone on that flight to "just leave before take-off if they had a problem with it"? I'm not saying many people will, because sadly not many people consider this a scenario. But in the event of an emergency, if people were to get injured because of this, i can sure as hell assure you that they'll be saying "Why did you let the fat man on the plane if you knew he would jeopardize our safety?"

The same applies to the Etihad case. Although he did not jeopardize anyone's safety, he did jeopardize another passenger's comfort. If anyone should have considered getting off, he should have. Or he could have done the fair thing and bought two tickets to fully support his large frame.

EDIT: I do not mean to be condescending. I just get extremely upset about these things because so little people actually consider the safety implications these situations have. They're too worried about someone getting offended, that they'd risk their own safety and the safety of others.

I am confident we've already agreed that if it were possible for large people to pay for extra seating, we would implement it. As I have told you, it is logistically impossible to fix this so I am afraid we're just pulling the rope here. You should know that this sort of discrimination would never be allowed no matter how much we'd like to establish it. I think that I stand in much the same position here.

EDIT: That is a fine point you've made on safety. Very thought provoking actually.

Did a "small" trip the last few days. Around 800 miles in 2 days.

Managed to swim in the Atlantic, race in the mountains, tent at a salmon river, play snow fight... And it is summer here still.

Gonna be backpacking through the white mountains next week, I'm pretty hype for that. I've never backpacked before so it's probably going to be pretty rough for me going on a 5 day trip but oh well.

Now y'all know where I'm going to be so if you ever wanted to find and murder me, now's your chance haha
