A few days ago my new phone (note 4) updated it's OS. One of things being updated was its 'S health' program. I always am walking at work (between 8-11 miles a day) and found they added a new workout program to it. I have always been a little on the heavy side (partially due to my diabetes) bust mostly due to my bad eating habits and horrible workouts. I saw a program that works your way up to running a 10K. looked at the first part of the program called 'baby steps to running as 5K" It's a 10 week program running 3 days a week.

I started it today and walked (a brisk walk) about a mile and a half, and did a cool up and down of almost a half mile (together, also the entire workout is 1.35 miles). I walked a total of 2.45 miles in 46 mins. Not a barn burner I know but I really need to get healthier. I think me moving to a new city (in 27 days) and a new outlook on life is really going to help me. I want to lose weight, but that's not the ultimate goal. I just to be more active, even if it's just walking. I think however if I set some goals I can accomplish a lot :)

Discovered that there's an ant colony living under my room of our rented house. I only realized when I saw ants moving some white maggot looking things in a corner of my bedroom. It's either kill myself or kill them so I'm gonna flush them out with some ant spray in the morning.

It's cause he's a scumbag who abuses women and it'd be nice to see him get knocked the [bleep] out.

Yeah he's a piece of shit as a human being but he's the better boxer and it was pretty clear he won the fight.

Mayweather is the "better" "boxer". I put both of those in quotes for a couple of reasons. First of all, this fight should have happened five years ago, but Floyd has been ducking Manny forever until he knew he could win. Pac is a much more aggressive, quickness / explosiveness based fighter who will naturally drop off with age, whereas Mayweather is extremely defensive and passive and remained in his prime for a much longer time period because of it. So before the fight even started, Mayweather is a [bleep] for putting on this whole charade of finally taking on Pac to prove he's the better boxer when in reality he intentionally waited years until Pac was a shell of his former self who had a minimal chance of winning. Then, during the fight, he danced away from any toe-to-toe fighting and clinched every 30 seconds to get decisions. And sure, that wins fights, but it's a) not a spectacle for the fans in what is ultimately a pure entertainment sport, b) ruining the sport of boxing the same way diving / embellishment is damaging the sports of soccer and basketball, and c) is in general a weak as [bleep] way to go about things. Every single time a boxing match breaks out in Floyd's high-stakes game of tag, he clinches and then throws cheap body shots when the other fighter can't do anything.

In short, Mayweather ducked the only guy who could beat him for years and years until he was well past his prime, then "fought" in about the lowest possible sense of the word only when he was sure he would win in order to protect his undefeated status. The all-time greats never did that and that's why no matter how rich Floyd gets he will never be one of them.

It was a fun fight to watch.  I was pulling for Pacman because Floyd is human garbage, but still a good fight.  Not that I ever watch boxing, but it was entertaining at least.

Seems pretty logical? You would need some emergency support there if you're doing electrical stuff. You know, just in case. Why aren't they available today anyway?

All they do is drive around and turn off over gas alarms that keep going off despite there not being any gas leaks. If an actual incident happened they would basically announce over the radio to stop work and clear the area, call someone qualified to sort it out and then go back to facebook.

Union sites have been designed to be super bureaucratic so nobody works very hard even if they wanted to.

Honestly, 75% of my time is spent navigating the bureaucratic mess, waiting for permits, figuring out how to get permission to work or just sitting on my ass because I'm waiting for someone to get their shit together. Not exaggeration. We've taken a year and a half to do what half the manpower could do in 3 months according to a few people that have done similar work on other projects.

Not that I'm bothered since I get paid by the hour, it just gets funny sometimes. One time I got a permit to work, and then didn't sign on/off because I got pulled away to do something else. The permit office had a meltdown. No idea on what to do or how to handle it because there was no procedure for either signing on and off on the spot or just throwing it out. They were still arguing when i left

My point is, this could have been our generations Rumble in the Jungle or Ali-Frazier but instead Mayweather pussied out and there might never be a fight of this magnitude again because of it.

A random question on a different note for the TIF health team - if you take a block of cheese (like from the supermarket) that's tightly wrapped in plastic or whatever and leave it sitting out, how long until it goes bad? I've had the misfortune to leave it out for like a day, but I threw it out at that point. It makes me curious though.

Went to Avebury yesterday. It's a big, very old stone circle in Wiltshire made for unknown reasons ~4000 years ago. A lot of druids were there, wearing flowers and beards and carrying big staves. The most senior ones also wore capes. Most of them were quite obese and unwashed. One of them was kissing the stones as she walked around. I concluded that I do not want to go back to Avebury.

Edit: @Arceus, cheese - proper cheese - does not go "bad." Mould just makes it tastier. You should never throw cheese away. This is what my grandparents taught me.

This is the mass-produced stuff though - proper cheese costs $20/lb at a cheap supermarket and there is no way I'm paying that. And it also gets absolutely disgusting if you don't seal it off.

I don't know about mass produced. Granny never had any advice on that.

Mass produced cheese you toss out if it's been out of refrigeration for over 6+ hours in my opinion.

I'm trying to be patient with this guy I like from last night so I don't make any mistakes, I don't want to ruin it by jumping right into bed with him since that's what most guys here are like.

I'm unsure if "most guys" that Tim alludes to is with respect to people on TIF or people locally where he lives :P.

I've never followed boxing till earlier this week, so I did a bit of reading because the Mayweather's fighting style and personality is oddly fascinating to me.

From what I've read about him, here's the facts:

- he didn't have a very good childhood but he was a naturally gifted boxer and he nurtured those talents his whole life

- he allegedly beats up women

- his public persona is very cocky and entitled

- in the ring, he is calm, calculating, and consequently has a perfect boxing record

The fact that he's so calm and calculating in the ring makes me wonder how calm and calculating he is outside of the ring. It really wouldn't surprise me if he's pretending or exaggerating to be a worse person than he actually is simply because it sells and makes him more money.

So with all that said, it's interesting to put myself in his shoes because it creates all kinds of interesting predicaments. What's his motivation? If his primary goal is money, then he did everything perfectly, from both his behavior outside the ring to his skills within the ring. At this point I'm inclined to believe that money's his primary motivation and he doesn't care as much about being "the best." After all, he literally has a perfect record and people still refuse to acknowledge him as the best. Isn't that funny? If we put ourselves in his shoes, then it really doesn't matter if he wins or loses since regardless people will hate him. What did he have to gain from fighting Pacquaio last night? He really didn't have anything to gain but plenty to lose. After all, he won the fight because he outplayed and outsmarted his opponent, but people still hate him and refuse to acknowledge him as the best. The only way he could've truly been considered the best would've been if he had challenged Pacquaio 5 years sooner. But that ship has sailed, which suggests that no matter what he does, Mayweather can never be the best in the eyes of his peers. Can you imagine how that must feel?

A guy on reddit said:

Sure, what he did is smart to win on score cards and keep that undefeated record, and logically the objective is to win; but I can't respect that strategy or put him up there with the greats. Anyone who thinks that was a good fight or Mayweather was great is fooling themselves.

Is this how most fans feel? Because if that's the case, what exactly is Mayweather supposed to do? Abandon his extremely successful method of boxing in favor of a more risky and dangerous fighting style, just to appease the fans? If he's using a suboptimal technique, then how could he be considered the best?

I really can't see how someone can blame Mayweather for his fighting style. If anyone's to blame, it's whoever's in charge of the boxing rules that allows such a controversial fighting style to be optimal.

It just seems like everyone went into the fight thinking, "If Pacquaio wins, he's the greatest boxer. But if Mayweather wins, he's still not the greatest boxer and never will be"

No one was ever going to claim Pacquiao was the greatest ever. That's stupid. Sugar Ray, Ali, Tyson. And then everybody else.
