Again, you should stop threatening to sue. It's not likely you're going to get anything out of it.

Yeah, unless the US is super different from Canada, which it may be, you need to prove damages of some sort to get money. What damage of monetary value has your roommate done? Have you missed work, failed a class, avoided activities at a cost to yourself? You can't just sue him because of what you've described as happening.

How weird, we've got like 300+ guests online, and they mainly seem to be looking through old profiles / topics or using the search function for something.

... and to add to what everyone said above, how do you know you'll be able to collect? Doesn't seem very effective to me.

Have you brought these revelations to your lawyer?

i know i don't have much grounds to sue on. I can maybe sue for lawyer costs, some money i spent on ubers getting around, some money i lost having to cancel flights, etc. I can maybe ever try the defamation and PTSD routes, but at the end of the day i know there's no real grounds to sue. But the thing is, he doesn't realize this. So i have to try and take advantage of this while i can. He hasn't spoken to lawyers yet, and i don't think he's going to either. His parents will have to pay for one, and i don't think he has the balls to tell his parents what happens. So as long as he thinks i have grounds to sue, the better it is for me.

Speaking of, maybe someone here can help me out. So according to what i read, when it comes to family violence charges, it's up to the prosecutor whether or not the charges are dropped, even if he goes to the police telling them he wants to drop the charges. Having said that though, if he admits that he lied and fabricated the whole story, would that make a difference? Additionally, since these cases are generally involving like a boyfriend and girlfriend, or a spouse or whatever, and seeing as we're only roommates and we no longer live together, will this have any significant impact on him wanting to drop the charges?

Filing a false police report is illegal but that's about all I can offer on that subject

These are you questions you should ask your lawyer, not us...as much as we are enjoying the updates :)

Well this was a small feature but it really improves the dialog system:

I added support for quests...

Quests are a graph of sorts. A lot of games just use an integer, but using a graph allows branching quests. They're stored in the GameDB and the steps and/or quests can be used as requirements:

I've been trying to get a costume working (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac) but I just can't white makeup working ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I'll just use really pale foundation.

Otherwise it's on point! I even have Nailbunny to tag along:

The real thing is a bunny plush, but I'm just keeping it in my pocket cause I can't bear to kill a plushy. :(

I mean if you don't go to sleep, the waking up part is completely unnecessary.

I'm running a Monster of the Week campaign (TTRPG) for a group of friends, and we had our second session tonight. I made a really fun NPC, one that everyone seemed to really like, and I was really having fun with. At the climax of the final fight, one of the players decided to just randomly kill the NPC, because his character is canonically insane.

Probably going to have to talk with him about it. Very frustrating, and I'm def not looking forward to it.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

I would recommend not talking to him and instead employ an "actions have consequences" way around it. After all it is your story and if you don't want a murder hobo to ruin it - just make the murder hobo's time difficult, have them spend resources that they don't want to use.

For example, in a later session (let's say 2-3 sessions from now) have a group of ("powerful") bounty hunters waylay the party (specifically the murder hobo) - with the sole intent to kill the murder hobo. If they happen to defeat the bounty hunters (either with the offending murder hobo dead or alive) - have them find a contract that explains that murder-hobo is the target for whatever reason  e.g. NPC could have been a noble / last seen with your group and someone connected the dots, you don't have to say it was for killing the NPC. In like a Dark Brotherhood kind of way.

If murder hobo still lives you can send a stronger party to waylay them at another point in time OR the murder hobo could have been  injured in some way that makes it especially inconvenient to do simple actions.  For exampe: Murder hobo is infected with a virus that puts him to sleep for 1d4 rounds and is knocked prone on a failed cons roll every time they enter combat - have him spend a lot of time and money trying to find a cure only to find would be a cruel waste of time but entertaining for you and can expand the story in a way.

That's just an example about how I would punish the offending player without it being immediately obvious that you are punishing them.

Yeah, don't talk to him about it.

I have something like that set up and foreshadowed already.

I just think that kind of passive aggressive response can easily ruin a player's fun, especially if it's coming from the GM. It's certainly easier, but imo less effective and more frustrating for everyone involved.

I'm on medication that has absolutely tanked my tolerance, so drunk TIF is gonna be a no for me.

I'm so glad I don't DM/GM anymore. Shit was stressful. I ran Storm Kings Thunder[5e] for about 18 months after my OC campaign[also 5e] fell apart after 6 months.

Playing with the wrong people can be rough, you gotta feel out what works. Talking out of game to a player can ruin a whole game, but using the game to manipulate the situation is exactly what your duty is as DM. At some point you may have to slightly adjust the game you're running to accommodate the players so that they all enjoy their time playing

One of our party is going away for a month, so rather than continue our campaign, our DM opened the chair to anyone who'd like a go at DMing a one-off or a small campaign in the interim. I hesitantly accepted an offer, seeing I've never DMed before and I start to lose energy about the two/three hour mark when playing, so I bet I'll run out quicker when I'm DM.

At least being DM means you're always at the point of attention. I can't stand drawn out battles involving more than 6 characters
