@ Veiva I went to Georgia Tech, let me know if you have questions about it

Is it possible for me to transfer while missing some pre-reqs is my only question lol. If that's a yes, I'm confident I'd transfer in. A few of my teachers at my school went to Georgia Tech and they liked it but that was anywhere from 10-40 years ago. (One of them was talking about how the area around Georgia Tech was like "the projects" when he attended but that's no longer a problem obviously).

Seriously though, when did you go? What program were you in? How difficult were the courses? If you've been to another school, how do the courses compare at Georgia Tech? Was going to Georgia Tech over a smaller university worth it? What were the networking opportunities like while you attended?

I could most definitely get into NC State which would be like 1/10th the cost, but a CS degree from Georgia Tech looks a lot better than a CS degree from NC State...

I graduated last May, BS/MS in aerospace engineering. Bottom line: think hard about it, you may well be better off going to NC State.

I went to GT out of state, took on a decent amount of debt, worked hard (the rumors about courses being needlessly difficult are pretty true), got good grades, made a lot of friends, and generally had a great time there. Very good clubs and networking opportunities. I don't regret having done it and overall I love the place and the city. I got a nice job out of the deal and I'm happy with it. However, I have plenty of coworkers who went to less "prestigious" schools, including local state universities near where I grew up. I can't help but think I could have taken a more pleasant and less expensive path to the same place I'm at now. In most cases I think the optimal play (if you're the one paying) is to get the cheapest degree you can, after your first job it's not going to make much difference where you got it.

Thank you.

The last few days I've been honestly thinking about getting a BS from NC State then a MS from Georgia Tech and a PhD from MIT (assuming I get accepted and can somehow make money via my own means). Bonez made a good point about the debt since I do want to pursue higher education, it would mess things up if I took on a lot of debt in my under-graduate studies.

Found out this weekend when my mom took a picture of me holding my neice that I have a legitimate bald spot on the back of my head growing. The hardest spot for me to see. It's not super noticeable, but it's definitely there.

I wanna [bleep]ing die. August feels farther away every day.

The good news is august gets closer every day after august 31st

Also my stepsister is MTF and getting on hormones helped with male pattern balding really quickly. Although she transitioned and started hormones really young, like 20 and her hair was starting to thin like her dads but no bald patches were visible yet. So I guess I should be a little more cautious and say I have no idea how hormones affect hair growth but in my experience it seemed to have a huge impact.

Yeah, some of it should come back. I've heard you get about 6 months' reversal. The problem is, I don't really know where that bald spot was in February months ago, since I can't really look at that spot.

That sucks a bunch. I've seen a little new growth and a lot of fuzz both at my hairline and above my temples since nuking T, so I'm kind of hoping that keeps up.

I assume August is when you start HRT? That seems like a hell of a wait, though. Is there any chance your PCP can start you on a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor to slow/stop the conversion of T to DHT sooner?

I think I'm finally cracking under the pressure of work / school. I am so depressed and the delusions are creeping back. I've taken on too much for someone with as severe as a mental illness as me. I may have to drop my summer classes and dial down on how many I'm taking next semester. I have like 1 day to decide.

It's bad graduating a semester later, it would be worse not graduating at all.

This is definitely the right mindset. And like Going said, you know you better than anyone. It speaks volumes that you're recognizing this now and are willing to step back and care for yourself.

As much as it may feel like it life's a marathon not a sprint.

I think what I'm going to do instead is dial down hour many hours I work (planning on quitting soon anyway) and drop one of the classes. That should be do able. I'll then move around some classes next semester so I have the random electives + like Calculus I / English (not necessary for my program but useful for transferring) in the Spring so I'm taking no more than 4 classes at a time.

I'll plan on transferring to NC State, and failing that, the local Fayetteville State University. If I only get into FSU I'll do classes so I have a strong case for transferring to Georgia Tech a year later. Otherwise if I'm at NC State I'll finish out my program there without the extreme debt of Georgia Tech. I will then try and get into Georgia Tech for a dual MBA / MS  in CS some point in the future, then maybe I could get a PhD at MIT. Assuming I don't go down the managerial programming route professionally.

I'd love to go into academia and pursue AI, but I'd also love to be CTO of a giant company.

I think that's a better plan all things considered.

I'm glad you're acknowledging the importance of looking after your mental health and it looks like you've got a viable plan that works.

Good luck, Veiva!

On the topic of mental health I am sinking deeply into depression and might need to go back on medication for it.

My aunt is gravely ill and my cousin who I basically grew up with is psychotic and aggressive which has been triggering for me.

Steps forward in my life are always seemingly accompanied by constant emotional blows. I'm going to start solo travelling as much as possible again.

Oslo in June, Hamburg and Copenhagen early August followed by Amsterdam at the end of August I think.

Then I'm looking into doing a week in Finland and Sweden in September and I may do Christmas in Switzerland. The sooner I take a train, bus, flight, bike ride, the sooner I will feel better.
