Title is a little cryptic but just to get people interested :P

Well i got my first ever tablet today. Wacom Bamboo One. Perfect for me as a beginner. I have always wanted to learn to use a tablet to paint.

Here is my first attempt after opening up photoshop and using the tablet for the first time :) Not really looking for tips on the picture just general tips about using a tablet if anyone has some :) Many thanks

That is cool. Nice colours you have, and very good, shading wise. The actual construct of the plane is a bit shoddy. It looks a bit short and fat, with the nozzle pointing down. Good background, but slightly too much green. Very good first go. Good pun on the title :)

Good job. Just play around with a bunch of different things on the tablet- that's how I found out how to do a bunch of cool things. As for the plane... again, good, but the far wing looks like its attached to the nose instead of further back like it should be. As far as I can tell, if it was where it should be, you;d barely see any of it.

Urges me to order a A4 one :ohnoes:. I can't really say that the plane looks to good, you used too much white for shading in my opinion, I think it could look better if you used darker colours for shading? The thing I like about it is the shape, it's quite good looking , maybe a little short but not really a issue.

And I haven't been online on msn for a while because I don't have time anymore, I'm also going to make one last signature and leave the community while working on my own for a while, hopefully developing a new style, learning how to use a tablet and how to make techno remixes (And hopefully a completely new song using a melody I made). I'll give more info why on my next thread but I can just say "bye" for now, Thanks for everything Charlie I really owe you everything.

The painting looks pretty good, obviously very messy but I kind of like that look. I can't give much advice on tablets (although I do use one myself), but like Kaphias said just have fun with it and you'll get to grips with it automatically.

Advice on tablet...

Well first, assign some functions to the shortcut key, I put the zooming on my tablet buttons for example.

While you paint, leave the brush opacity fairly high and set the pressure sensitivity to opacity.

That's the only tips I could think of, rest will come naturally as you practice.

As for the painting, when you draw non organic shapes it's important to plan good guidelines and make good use of the selection tools and straight lines.

Wow thank you for all your advice guys :)

I hope to see you soon julius :( Hope we can stay in touch.

Thank you all for that advice. I will take heed of it all. I am going to use it as a mouse to get used to the feel and then get keep practicing with sketches. I'll try to make slightly more neater but i aim for a rough/abstract and stylised form of digital painting. I keep you all posted with my progress!

As for your advice to change the pressure function to opacity unknowz. I went on the pen properties on the program and i could not change it to opacity rather than brush size. Can that be done in photoshop?

The pressure sensitivity option is in photoshop, not in the tablet software.

I think it's in other dynamics.

You can watch this if you're confused
