PumpkinPete112
[hide=]Ok so i have a computer with 233MB of RAM, terrible right? Well i have another tower with 512MB of RAM that I dont use anymore because its too old and cant support more than 20GB of memory. So I wanted to take the RAM out of it and put it in my new computer, but ive read you can easily ruin your computers. So heres the question, I dont have any antistatic thingys but, how much risk too the computer would i be taking by doing this myself (Wearing gloves)? I plan on using a good instructions site while doing so. Any suggestions, ect?[/hide] Ughhh here: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=761168 Sig
sloter
No need for gloves just make sure you mother board handles that ram.

EDIT: My motherboard can handle it, but will anything metal work to "ground" me from static? Sig
eggzs
Just touch the metal casing and try not to put it on carpet.

das1330
installing RAM is easy. As everyone has said, just ground yourself by touching a metal piece of the case before installing it and as long as your motherboard supports it you will be fine. It should not take more then a minute or two to complete the entire operation.

Don't need to do that, just leave it on your desk or any raised surface.
halo2_rocks7
If you're standing on a carpet (why not just sit on a chair?), don't move your feet (especially while wearing socks) or you'll touch your motherboard/RAM and fry it. If your standing on a carpet and opening a computer, get off the carpet. Even if you stand perfectly still there's still a chance of getting static build up and frying something, all that risk can be avoided by not being on a carpet.
