About coincidences

A few days ago, I was tidying my room. When I was doing that, I suddenly started thinking about a joke I read in a book (I think the English version is called the Rabbis are laughing, by Abraham Hochwald) once. Two seconds after I started thinking about that joke, I found that book beneath a pile of paper. When I had not seen that book in a while, I opened it. When I now opened it, I got to the page where I read this joke.

I would call this a quite interesting coincidence, but let's us not forget that interesting coincidences are bound to happen now and then. How many times have I not been thinking about that joke without finding the book?

Have any of you got any interesting coincidences to share with the rest of us?

[hide=And if you must know, here is the joke](Translated from Norwegian)

The Yeshiva student Motel Rosenwasser was about to meet his future bride, Reisele, for the first time.

"What am I going to say to her? I have never in my life spoken to a girl before," he said to the sjadkan.

"It is quite simple. Talk to her about love, family and philosophy."

Motel eventually got to be alone with Reisele, and started talking about the subject "love":

"Tell me, Reisele, do you love loksjes (noodles)?"

"No, I don't love noodles."

Then the subject "love" was used. He started on "family":

"Does your brother love noodles?"

"I don't have a brother."

Now only the subject "philosophy" was left.

"Tell me, Reisele, if you were to have a brother, do you think he would love noodles?"[/hide]

Mm.. intuition is an interesting topic.

I find myself running into many unexplainable and highly unlikely coincides. Yet in the grand scheme of things, the amount of coincidences that occur in my life shy in comparison to the amount of non-coincidences.

I'd be interested to see more research on intuition in the near future. :D

This happens to me all the time:

I'm thinking to myself about something, or reading. Then on the TV someone will say a word which I've just thought of/read, sometimes while I'm still reading it/thinking of it.

Strange.

I experience a lot of deja vu, but not much of this. It is really strange when it does happen though.

I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. If they were meant to fly, they won't break their necks on the concrete.
So, what is 1.111... equal to?

10/9.

Please don't continue.

It happens to me rarely. Co-incidence is merely odds at work. Eventually, two related things will happen together and you'll say "Oh what a co-incidence". For instance, one day about 5/6 years ago when I was riding my bike to my cousins, my mum made me put my bike helmet on (something I never did). I didn't wear it on the way (took it off the moment I was round the corner) but on the way back I did. I crashed into the pavement and wrote off the bike, broke my wrist and put an pretty big crack in the helmet. I didn't notice it back then but looking back it could look to someone that fate might have saved my life. I don't believe it though, it's still just luck to me.

I think there's so much going on in the world at the same time, that you could always find a coincidence if you just tried hard enough to find one. Although I do feel pretty excited when one happens and the chances are like 1/1,000,000. :)

Well um...No really, it happens all the time? No one is special just because something coincidental happened. Everyone is special though. \'

Anyway, the only story I can think of, two years ago, when I was in Taiwan...This was when I still played RuneScape, and I browsed the General forums. There was something about Jagex pulling ideas from the real world, and something came up about how the Kandarin (?) standard looks like some car company's logo. (Don't remember which one, it was German I think, and started with an A and had some accent in it? Now that I think about it, I have no idea what that accent is called, ugh I'm going to fail French...)

So that same day, I was going around with my uncle, and when I was getting out of his car, I look down...And there. The car company's name, with the logo. That's the best I can think of. ::'

I thought it was just your subconscious thinking that you 'left' this here, so you think about it, and you find it, because you're looking through whatever it was that had the book in it.

Or for the bike, you're wearing the helmet, and your subconscious makes you fall.

Just how I think about coincidences.

A coincidence happened to me just a few minutes ago (which in itself is a coincidence, considering that I experienced a coincidence just before viewing a thread on coincidences). I was thinking about a homework problem from back in 6th grade that I never solved and my teacher never gave the answer. As I was thinking, my brother (who is in 6th grade) came to me asking for help on a problem. I glanced at it and was shocked to see it was the same problem I'd been thinking about

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

This happens to me a lot. One day I'll be randomly reading something for no reason and then it seems to come up on a gameshow a few days or weeks later. I can't complain, it creates the illusion of me being a lot more intelligent than I really am.

It might have been something like that, but it's still an interesting coincidence.

how is coincidence different from weird experiences???? :?

A coincidence isn't necessarily weird. Sometimes they are just plain interesting.

The coincidences I usually have, are about thinking of a person then seeing them, or thinking of a song then hearing it on the radio.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

I find it spooky when I go outside, turn on my iPod, put it on shuffle, and the song that matches perfectly with the way I'm feeling comes on.

I remember being in an RE lesson about the use of religion in popular culture, and the song that came on when I got outside was "When You Were Young" by the Killers. That was just plain weird.
