Kent's guide to Slayer mastery! NEW SECTION!!!

Recommended Posts

I swear your guides get more awesome every time I look at them

Just reading through and found something that I was thinking about the other day,

2) Slayer helmet Oooo, goody. This helms graphical features are nice, and its combat abilities are decent. Its better than a Black mask, because of its extra Defense and the ability to use it at Dust devils (great) and Aberrant specters (not needed, sadly).

I'm currently thinking that a slayer helm beats even an enchanted ammy (I have both, just in case someone says I'm saying this because I've never tried both methods). Salve offers 5% str and 5% att over a black mask (or is it accuracy and max hit? Doesn't really matter) but you have to remember that a fury, or even a glory, offers some pretty hefty stats for an amulet slot, I'll use the fury as an example. Stats: +10 attack + 15 defence +8 strength +5 prayer, the salve ammy on the over hand provide +0 magic defence, +0 visible attack, +0 strength, +3 prayer.

What I'm getting at is that 5% isn't really THAT big when sized up with the bonuses of a fury. I don't know how valid doing math on this is because we don't know for sure if the percent is a boost of our equipment's stats. However, a 5% boost beats a fury once you surpass +160 strength bonus (100/5*8) and a 5% accuracy boost beats a fury once you surpass a 200 attack bonus. Obviously, the +10 defence is very useful if you're killing them the traditional way without a cannon and tanking them, and the prayer bonus speaks for itself, people pray against these a lot, whether they're cannoning or not.

So really, the only time you should start to consider a salve (e) over a fury is when your using a godsword, which you shouldn't be using against a monster with such low defence in the first place.

I do find Kent to be extremely one-sided most of the time and never takes other peoples sides into his head.

Must be why he doesn't update his guides with other peoples info.

It isn't always a bad thing to be one-sided. If I wanted pure facts I could search any fan site and the abundance of info there is all I could ever ask for, it's interesting looking at things from other people's views and what they've found, because you won't find something like it on a fan site. Though I agree there has to be a limit, Kent's guides are well within it in my eyes.

Keep up the great work kent

Fury is better than a Salve, or it is widely accepted as so, so I'm assuming that it is. Well, that's an error in logic. You can use a nosepeg and cannon, but you can't wear a Black mask... I thought you had to wear an Black mask and you can do it. Thanks for finding that.

I already explained that I can be one-sided when it comes to opinion, but the reason I'm not updating the facts is because I havn't even logged on Runsecape in weeks. :XD:

Kent, I notice you have Greater Demons under a high priority block because of the wild dogs.

The truth is though, Greater Demons are actually a great task if you fight them in the proper area - the Ogre Enclave! Since they are behind a barrier, you will need either Range or Magic to attack them but this means food is not needed. Plus, it means Range or Magic XP at no cost. Remember to bring Telegrabs though.

The only downside is it can take awhile to get done.

Yeah, if you range it it really sucks because you can't pick up their drops without wasting time and money on Telegrab. It's a bad task if you Range it either way, and it definetely deserves the spot if you don't have 127 Combat.

Just got back from a Black Demon task. I have concluded that people who pray there are too wimpy to try out anything new.

I prayed the first 120 or so of my task. Used 5 ppots with sgs. I'm not complaining, but I found out that the black demons don't hit me that much with Prossy on. So for the next 59 of my task I decided to try no prayer.

Note I had Sgs, Barrows armor, Bunyip, and about 18 pineapple pizzas. I also brought a super def in addition to the pure set. I also brought 1 ppot to try Superhuman strength on this task (wasn't before, didn't feel like it for some reason).

Result was at the end of my task, I used 5 pizzas, but 2 were because I dropped them to make room for gems and stuff. I also took 1 sip of prayer potion.

It's true that the demons can whack 15s and such, but they honestly are so inaccurate that food does fine. I would recommend anyone with at least a bunyip try out not praying at black demons and see how it works out, with or without sgs.

EDIT: Have Black Demons been nerfed? I remember them dropping much more in the way of charms that what I got.

Black demons in the Chaos Tunnels drop a lot more charms than other black demons. Where did you do your task?

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

A nice guide, not the best out there but certainly not the worst, yet I just can't put my finger on what this guide lacks but there certainly is something. Oh, well that isn't what I came to say; on the topic of bias, I was taught in school by someone of great intellect during our IB 'standards' for Historical Inquiries that bias is everywhere, there is no escaping it. It is the extent of bias that is under your control, not whether bias is present or not. That makes a lot of sense, as bias doesn't just relate to merely stating your opinion, even facts can be presented in a bias fashion. Bias has to do with who the author is, his/her intentions, even this was strictly facts, you would be inclined to present certain facts over others or do them in a particular way just because of human nature, and thus bias would be present. So there is no 'remedy' to bias, in fact, it isn't necessarily a bad thing as I was taught, it can be advantageous, its just that people get too caught into it. So onwards to the 'extent of bias', which is probably what a lot of people were 'concerned' about initially in this guide, it wasn't the fact that you presented your opinion, because lets face it, this is your guide and to expect it to be without your opinion is delusional, it is supposed to have your opinion,so the problem wasn't that you were presenting your opinion but it was the manner in which you were presenting your opinion. Instead of approaching in a manner of 'Well...I prefer this option A as opposed to that option B because...but option B is still an option', instead it was something along the lines of 'Well...I prefer option A so there really isn't any point in going into option B', of course the former 'format' is the 'acceptable' one in my opinion. However, I can see you have adjusted your guide and it isn't quite an issue anymore, but I just wanted to clear a common misconception of 'bias' that is all. Aside from that, good job.

some fixes:

umona:

1) NPC contact, will go in detail below.

2) Use your slayer ring, then bam, your right there.

3) Teleport to house, which is very useful as you can recharge Prayer.

4) If you dont have a slayer ring, no problem! Although it may be a little harder and slower, it is still a good method. Teleport using your Pharaohs scepter to Pyramid plunder (first choice) and go north, out of the gate, and talk to the magic carpet owner. Ask him to take you to the only available option, and from there walk north.

5) There are many other methods but if you cant, just use Duradel.

you should use duradel if you cant use him? change it to: "if you can, just use Duradel"

Greater demons -These are only a high priority block unless you aren't 127 combat! If you are under 127 combat aggressive dogs will make slayer experience come by very slowly, and to top it off it is crowded along with little spawns. Even if you have 127+ combat, I would put this on a low-medium priority to switch.

change it to:

-"These are only a high priority block if you aren't 127 combat!"

-"These are a high priority block unless you are 127 combat!"

and what about using the greaters in the Enclave? you just have to love the range exp!

3rd: Wolpertingers (92, 220 Combat)

Max: 210

Hitpoints: 651

Experience: Magic

Time: 62

Size: Small

Notes: THESE DON'T HIT HIGHER THAN STEEL TITANS. THEY DON'T. The reason why they sometimes are more accurate is because some monsters are weaker to mage then they are to melee or range. Remember, smaller size means that they will dance less, which makes this preferable in some spots, especially if its small size and magic based attacks come in handy. (Black demons for one)

they hit 210? o:! but thats really higher then steel titans!

2nd: War tortoise (67)

Slots: 18

Time: 67

Hostile: Yes

Notes: Controversy starts here. The War tortoise costs approximately 5,000 each, while the Spirit terrorbird is around 200 each. Big difference right? But 6 inventories is a lot, but not always necessary during Slayer.

remove the first but to make it sound better.

You can only kill Bork once a day. Bork is located in the Chaos tunnels, and he gives 250 Slayer xp, 7 Crimsons, 5 Blues, 2 greens, and 3000-9825. He attacks with melee, and he is assisted by Surok, who occasionally attack and has a max hit of 25. He also summons a few Ork legions which attack with Range and Melee. Just ignore them.

300-9825 what? phats? coins?

in your black demon section your setup 2 picture is excact the same as setup one, woopsie?

This guide needs a range section, because I need to range for slayer. I realize you mention a few tasks where ranging is possible, but I need more information than that. Range equipment, Safespotting vs Tanking, average overall range xp when slaying, any of this would really benefit the guide. I'm almost 99 defence, so I will start range slaying soon.

Sorry if by saying this I'm breaking some forum rules, but anyways here it is. RobinHoodie is asking for his Range Slaying Guide to die, so I believe this guide can fill in the gap they created. This is, in my opinion, the best slayer guide on this forum. Therefore, improve it, add new sections, and make it the best slayer guide anywhere.

Overall, a very nice guide, and I read almost all of the sections. The only question I have is about the Fog Dragon Slayer gloves. Would these be better than combat bracelet for Irons and either Baby Blacks or KBD?

You might consider adding a required (smoking kills) and (un)recommended quests lists. Unrecommend in the way of quests that give you possible monsters as a task.

This guide is extensive and complete. The only thing I can think to add are monsters from different masters. For example, I use the Chaeldar (I'm a lower cb :\), so some of the monsters I kill are not on the list.

Really nice guide. Good job.

But...

At the very begining you already made a typo.

This may not be a big one but it can confuse newer slayers.

* Turael He is called the Burthrope, and obtaining tasks from him is called Burthroping. The reason should be obvious, and that is because he is located in Burthrope. But this slayer master has a special ability to him, which is that he is able to give you tasks even though you are already on one.

Before the addition of Slayer points (which is quite recent), people used to use a Games necklace/NPC contact, and they would skip their bad tasks by turning them into short, easy tasks. Now, with slayer points you are allowed to cancel out your task without getting a (small, bad experience) task from Turael. The only reason to ever use Turael now is that if you are an extremely low level, but I wouldnt recommend slayer until you are 70+ all stats, anyways.

He lives in Burthorpe not Burthrope.

proof: burthorpeft0.png

7,9/10 :D 8 if you remove all typo's.

One of the best slayer guides with pictures. I would say that no guide can beat Zarfot's on the RSOF though, he is an insane slayer an efficiency maniac.

BTW, dfs is worth it to use on tasks where the monsters have very low defence such as dust devils and bloodvelds because you hit so often already. Slash bonus is what helps you hit in the first place. This is if you have a dfs, which isn't worth it IMO in the first place

The only person more crazy than Zarfot and his guides are somebody who thinks that they can beat him :XD:

To be honest, I was considering trashing this guide due to the massive amounts of negative feedback (Not CC, flame) but I might consider finishing it in the (far) future. Thanks.

And the DFS... you don't hit nearly often at Dustdevils and bloodvelds, but it could be considered at monsters with much lower defense, I guess. (REALLY low.)

There are a lot of typo's... I noticed that.
