So what does a Scientologist believe?

Will H

Recommended Posts

I would like to make it clear that I am not seeking to be a Scientologist, neither do I support the rumoured actions of the CoS should they be true. I merely wish have a somewhat unbiased knowledge on the subject.

Now, the vast majority of people here know of Scientology and its Church, mostly through their clashes with Anonymous and Project Chanology, known as Scientology versus The Internet. However, during these clashes claims such as the 'Xenu' story and other strong references to extraterrestrials have arisen, which I think are highly unlikely to be the whole truth, or maybe even any of the truth at all.

So, I wanted to ask some questions: What does a Scientologist believe? Or maybe more accurately, what must one believe in order to be classified as a Scientologist? :?:

Post away.

Denis, I've already had a look at that, but wikipedia articles about controversial subjects aren't too reliable, as well as the fact that the neutrality is disputed.

We can't tell you until you donate all your money and more to the CoS.

And then they'll sue us all for telling.

The wikipedia article does actually sum it up, from a neutral view imo.

Everything they believe is pure [cabbage], and i'm sure everyone will agree with me.

Please don't bash Scientology. Although I'm sure many of you don't agree with its doctrines, it is still a religion followed by many people. You wouldn't bash Christianity or Islam, so don't do it here either.

They believe (this is only from my memory) that we are all Thetans, souls of aliens that existed and were persecuted before humans existed. They resided in Earth until humans evolved, then took their bodies.

Is that right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I've understood it's not exactly 100% clear what they "believe". Through indoctrination they're brainwashed to believe in the Xenu stuff, body thetans, SPs and that they can achieve these amazing "powers" if you give the "church" all your money. Everything just gets gradually crazier the higher they reach.

But shortly put, they basically believe they can save the world and that they are the only ones who can do it.

I agree with you.

When you "have" to pay the church, it is a cult. I really don't think that they believe anything, but instead are brainwashed to think that they actually believe in something.

If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.

A religion is what they call it? Well, maybe where you live, but here they're on an official list of cults.

But yeah, if you want a view on what those extremists believe, you should watch the South Park episode. Granted, it's not quite neutral, but it sure gives you a good laugh and certain bits of facts of what they actually believe.

i actually might, depending on which specific part of the religion was being discussed. if it was something i was fully against, yeah i'd bash it. i don't know anything about scientology though, so i can't really give my opinion on this specific subject (except for the south park episode which was awesome). seems more cultish than anything.

A) It's not a religion, it's a cult. What defines a cult? You pay to be a part of it. While in all other religions, you pay optionally

B)...some of us would bash christiany and islam :D

I would and have bashed Christianity on these boards on multiple occasions. I find cults, religions, and superstitions to be all in the same category, very primitive in nature, and not applicable to civilized people living in the 21st century.

Forum is even more unreliable. The best thing to do is ask people who actually believe in it. Some guys in the church of Scientology (Toronto) can explain it pretty logically.

This guy wrote a science fiction story which attracted a large group of people into worshiping the main plot of the story. The author then decided to make a group dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, and called it "Scientology." The previous group naturally joined this group, and believed that the author's scientific pursuit was worth following, so they joined his pursuit, and began to believe that his writings were true. This man than either:

a) Manipulated his followers into baking large amounts of cookies to sustain him forever,

B) Tried to get his name into history books by turning his group of followers into a "religion,"

c) Wrote another book that depicted him becoming lord of Everything.

~

It seems he chose B), and in doing so, L. Ron Hubbard has been remembered as the father of Scientology. His religion has been manipulated since his death into being entirely about his books, or "Qur' Ron," and so begins the common story of creation with the Evil Lord Xenu.

No offense to any scientologists.

PS. You are NEVER going to get your answer, Will. Scientology is too not-taken-seriously by the majority - you're going to get South Park crap over and over again. And that's probably as accurate as it gets :?

I think you're right. I don't think it is something to take seriously, but a lot of those things are a lot more interesting than things which people do take seriously.

Ok, if anybody knows, what exactly is a Thetan? Is it basically a soul?

It's the soul of an alien which Xenu killed, I believe. They manifested themselves in human bodies, and are the cause of us doing bad things and are responsible for humanities' problems, supposedly.
