Laura
So having a fast JS engine won't help for browser-based Java? No. Thanks, both of you. :)
urbestfreind
So having a fast Java Script engine won't do anything for something using Java in a browser? No, because they are two separate things. JavaScript is run through the browser, and compiled by the browser. JavaScript is included with the HTML for the page, so any HTML page with JavaScript in it will run JS the same online or offline (unless it required online content, then it would, obviously, run differently). Java, however, is pre-compiled, and all the files needed for the applet (namely the .class files) are stored in the browser's cache. Being able to read JS quickly doesn't mean Java applets will run quickly as well, because Java doesn't need the browser to do much with the applet, but JS does.. I'm probably making it sound more complicated than it is though. [hide=Funny Quotes]So you sucker punched a kid in the back of the head? Makoto_the_Phoenix
A lot of people get Java and Javascript confused. What is the difference, if you don't mind me asking? From WikiAnswers (seems credible enough): Java programs are usually compiled into bytecode which runs within a Java Virtual Machine. The program can run as an applet inside a browser, a servlet on the server, a regular desktop application, etc. JavaScript is a scripting language that usually runs inside the web browser. It is not compiled in advance - it is interpreted on the fly by the browser. Languages themselves are also different in many regards. There is no real connection between the two, except for that unfortunate similarity in the name. pryomancer
Java is a full programming language, javascript is just a scripting browser language.

Deathmath
I'm using Firefox beta nightly tester edition (3.1b2pre), which is called Minefield. It is very stable. I have the version check off so all my extensions work too. It's way faster than the current version of Firefox. It scores a 92 on Acid3 as of a few minutes ago (tested by me). Same here. It's freakishly fast :P Opera/Konqueror are my second choices, though. Same here too :) Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again
dsavi
I try to always have the latest version of everything to keep up, I even have the latest version of Netscape. I don't really have a reason though. But I use FF (3.0.3, I haven't been bothered to try minefield since I'm a bit worried about stability) and Chrome. Even though Chrome is beta, it's stable as anything. I'm not really interested in any browser that isn't open source.

SomeWelshGuy
Firefox. IE sucks, Chrome is too simple and Opera is just weird. That's what I think anyways. Retired Tip.It Crew Mapper.

urbestfreind
I use FireFox. IE occasionally, not for browsing though, I just test out my webpage layouts in it. Why not just use IE Tab? I tried out FF 3.1b1, but I didn't like it. Half my add-ons (including Stylish and Smart Bookmarks Bar) didn't work, and although I noticed some speed increase in speed, I didn't see the losses as worth it. I'll stick with 3.0.3 for now. evil_mumm_ra
i use the developer's version of google chrome, i think it's 0.3.0.149 or some stupid number, but it's definately 0.3.x. has just about all the bugs/crashes and everything from the public beta version fixed, and is just awesome. i forget how you switch your version of chrome from the public to the developers version though, once you do it'll automatically update with THE newest version of chrome. quite nice really.
