Quantum of Solace

Recommended Posts

Just got back from it and I loved it. I agree that I think it's just the dark middle of the trilogy, especially since a large portion of the movie deals with bond having to learn to control himself.

I liked it, the action scenes were awesome. The thing I didn't like was that we didn't know much about some of the characters in the story.

Bond needs his hair slicked back or it's just not Bond.

Much as I adore the old James Bond movies <3:, the new ones just don't seem to click with me. I saw Quantum of Solace today, and the plot seemed shaky and somewhat hard to follow. The action... well, there was plenty of action, but the camera angles threw me off (I didn't get to see very much of it clearly).

So, basically Earthysun is Jesus's only son.

Didn't like it too much. The action was alright, but the camera shots changed too often to appreciate it. The plot was a bit confusing, and the main bad guy didn't seem very evil/bad for being a Bond film, just a business guy with shady business ethics. I agree, Bond could have used more gadgets (at least his car).

I havent' seen it yet but I'm slightly reminded of Electra King in terms of evil/bad. Her entire outlook on the pipeline was unethical and I'm sure that's only a few steps away from what said business guy would be prepared to do if he had to. Thoughts on that comparison?

Well I felt that the basic premise behind the movie was for Bond to learn to control himself. You actual see this very well in this film as during about the first 2/3s of the film he ends up killing more then he should have. In the last 1/3 of the film he controls himself and basically ends his rampage of killing. I also found the plot to be very simple as their was basically one overall goal Bond had throughout the film.

I liked that it was a bit more realistic. If you think about it, as well, this is just the start. We know the business man is part of a larger organization that no doubt is very powerful.

I think that the third will explain it more.

I thought the movie was pretty good, but i got bad front row seats and the action scenes were a little hectic. I like this one though :) I like how this Bond isn't as suave as he used to be, he's more of a sociopath

You have to remember these prelued the rest of the movies right? This is when he was rough, raw and generally 'out of control' so you'll most likely only find him being sauve only when he really has to be and even then it will really be forced.

Exactly. I think in the third one we'll see him turn more into the classic bond we know.

I also wonder why people miss the point: CR and QoS are pre-"suave" Bond: It shows his life before he became a sophisticated, cynical guy who likes the small luxuries in life and sipping drinks in a hotel room, playing baccarat, eating in restaurants, while occassionally embarking on an assignment.

The whole argument that he's "just not Bond" is thus pretty void. He's not supposed to be anything like the Roger Moore or Brosnan type yet.

I liked it. Feels like a broken record now but I'll throw in I liked CR a little better. For me that was mostly because of Eva Green though. Bond is also feeling more like Bourne now, but I have no problem with that since I loved those movies too.

Since I pretty much just repeated what others have already said I'll throw in one more thing, I like that Bond movies are having continuity now.

I chose the point the finger at script writters swapping out villans/organizations for SPECTRE and breaking things. SMERSH, for example, is a prominate opposing force in the books but is mostly replaced by SPECTRE in the movies. And this really destroys the 'cold war' aspect for which Bond is later noted as being a relic of. Very few movies actually contest the KGB/USSR (I think it's 6?) the rest is going against SPECTRE or some other single figure.[/semi-rant].

For the most part i agree, but the structure of the books didn't help continuality either... so there's not much a studio can do when the books don't carry from one to the next very effectively either *shrug*

BUMP - Just came back from it now and I thought the plot was a little thin, started out okay but it was just... well thin. I felt a little disapointed by it.

I saw it with a couple of friends on Thursday.

It doesn't really feel like a Bond movie any more.

The way it's being done now, 007 isn't so much James Bond as he is BROTHER CAPTAIN BOND OF THE MI CHAPTER, 6TH COMPANY, SLAYER OF ALIENS AND DAEMONS. NOW PAY FOR YOUR CRIMES, HERETIC.

... Or James Norris, come to think of it.

I think it's a good thing Forster doesn't want to direct another Bond movie. I saw an interview of him where he explained the huge abudance of action in QoS by the fact there was a long poker game in the previous installment.

Frankly, he doesn't seem to know what a Bond movie is about. First and foremost it's about style and subtlety, not "making up for earlier movies".

Craig himself seems like a good actor for the role, he should continue the role. It's just a shame his skills go to waste by a director hell-bent on shaky camshots, chaotic action scenes, Bourne-style long violent scenes, etc.

Even Casino Royale was 10x more realistic & believeable than this. No, it's not a 'bad' movie, but it doesn't seem like a James Bond one.

Not to mention, speeding 60mph with a Haitian fishing boat seems a bit awkward

Its been a week since I saw it, and I thought it was good, but not by Bond stantards...

James Bourne: QOS is what it should of been called. It looked too much like Bourne, which took away from the Bond flair...

I think a lot of people have hit it on the head...this movie was good, just not James Bond...

Meh, I just got back from it. Thought it was decent. My friend says this about it "Well the action was cool and it had lots of it, but I dont know what the [bleep] was going on."

It was completely diffrent to the older James Bond movies. They had all those high-Tech gagets 8-) . 007 is more of a rule breaker in this one :o :o .

Overall I didn't really understand it much but after a while I soon got the hang of it.

I watched it a while ago - thought it a decent film - but felt CR was better. CR was better because it could stand as a whole movie by itself. As for QoS which sequels, you have to have watched CR to really come to grips with what the heck's happening. At the end you find there's yet to be another sequel, which really makes QoS feel like a filler movie in between the first and the upcoming third.
