What Game(s) Did You Last Get and What Are You Playing?

Been dividing my time between Tomb Raider, Smite, Black Ops 3, and Fallout 4.

Tomb Raider turned out a lot better than i expected. It was kind of an impulse buy, but i really wanted to see what it had to offer anyway. Last time i played a Tomb Raider game was on PS1 and it was one of my favorites at the time. Thus far i am impressed. The only negative thing i can say is that i don't see much replay value at all. There are (thus far at least) no branching options or game changing choices to be made. Everything seems pretty linear. But i still think its worth the money. It's probably going to take me ~30 hours to do everything i want to do, so i guess ~$2/h isn't a bad investment.

Fallout 4 is great. It's exactly what i expected. So much to do you're not really sure were to start. I don't really remember if Fallout New Vegas has the ability to craft/mod Weapons and Armor but i like how simple it is to do in Fallout 4. And i like the new level-up/perk system a bit better as well. Another thing i like (and i know this was in previous titles, i just never used it) is the follower/familiar thing. I've been finding them extremely useful. I think i have about 20 hours in Fallout 4 already, and i doubt i've even scratched the surface. Really enjoying it thus far, though the only complaint i have is that some missions almost require you to look at guides. I think i've done 2 missions/quests that i would never have been able to complete without looking them up. Kind of frustrating for someone who wants to do everything on their own. Aside from that, this looks like a 100 hour game easily.

Black Ops 3 has been fun. I don't think it's as good as AW, but it's close. I think if AW fixed some of the broken mechanics, and fixed weapon balance, it could have been the best CoD since BO2 and maybe even ever. There were just a few too many things that kept it from being a great CoD though, and these things don't seem to be present in BO3. Thus far i have found the weapon balance to be fairly good. Some weapons are maybe slightly OP (Vesper and M8), but aside from that it's fairly balanced. In terms of Esports i see a decent year for CoD. It seems like it's already seeing some growth with 2 of the major Esports Orgs (TSM and C9) already trying to get teams together for the CWL (CoD World League). Treyarc also seem a bit more interested in listening to the community than Sledgehammer did. I think that's a big reason AW was such a mess.

2015 was probably the best year in gaming in a decade. So many great titles this year.

I have to disagree with you on Fallout 4 Noxx. While New Vegas didn't have a modding system for weapons, it made up for it by having a large variety of weapons. I feel like almost every weapon in FO4 is exactly the same until you buy/find/do the quest for the named version of whatever weapon that has whatever effect applied to it. Most Fallout players won't notice but the unarmed/melee weapons are severely lacking in available mods (Deathclaw Gauntlet has exactly 1 mod. Power Fist only has 2) whereas the guns and armor have options on top of options. Not to mention that since there's no longer a repair system you can just run around with your gamebreaking weapon for the entire game if you find it early enough (which is exactly what happened to me)

I dislike the new leveling system mostly because there's no level cap. Now as you keep playing everyone's character will end up being exactly the same, defeating the purpose of the game being an RPG and completely eliminating the need to reroll characters. I was annoyed in Skyrim when I found out that my warrior Nord could become Gandalf with just a little bit of grinding. I understand why people would want to be able to get everything, but it's silly to have an RPG where you character is allowed to be literally perfect. I started out FO4 with 10 Strength and 10 Endurance because I just wanted my character to be good at punching things. Now he's good at everything and everyone else's character can be just as good as punching things as well. What was the point of choosing our stats if they're all just going to be maxed out at the end anyway?

I'm not sure what quests you've seen that needed a guide. They've all been pretty straight forward about where to go and what to find and/or kill. I guess my man complaint is that the game feels pretty "casualized" compared to New Vegas what with the no level cap, no hardcore mode, free power armor in the first hour of the game, etc. Still I've put more than 50 hours into it and I'm still going so the game is fun.

I really never did all that much exploring in Fallout NV, and never really experimented with different weapons. I think for the most part i used one or two different pistols and maybe 1 or 2 different rifles. Like i said, i don't remember if there was a way to mod weapons in NV, but if there was i doubt i ever used it. I haven't used melee weapons at all yet, so i don't know much about them. I'm also kinda confused as to why they took the repair system out of the game. It was one of the first things that struck me as odd. But i guess it was to take away the feeling of having to grind to find certain weapons to use for repairing.

The reason i prefer the new leveling system is that, to a degree, it's impossible to mess your character up. I understand that at the end of the day you'll be able to max everything since there's no level cap. But i don't think you'll be able to easily do that without either excessive farming or using some sort of exploit. I could be wrong though. I look at it like Dark Souls. Your starting character doesn't matter as you can level up however you wish after that. You can also choose to stop leveling whenever you want. You don't need to spend the perks if you don't want too. But it's there for the people who enjoy maxing out everything.

Not quite sure what to say about the power armor. I have already managed to get 3 different sets but i don't use them at all. The sound of running in it annoys me so i kind of ditched it. I agree though, seems a bit OP to get it so soon and so easily. And the one specific quest i actually had to look up had to do with a castle. I'll spoiler tag this:

[hide]It's the part of the quest, after taking back the Castle for the Minutemen, where you had to activate the Transmitter. To do this you had to go into the castle and connect a generator to a power cable, then go outside and connect the power cable to the transmitter. You needed a certain amount of power though (i think 20?) which was either one large generator or two medium generators connected to each other. The entire quest isn't exactly hard, it's just knowing that you needed 20 power to make everything work probably came down to taking a lucky guess. I tried connecting small generators in several ways and tried using a medium generator but i couldn't find the solution so i finally had to give up and look it up.[/hide]

I think there was one more quest that was similar in the sense that you can do it without looking for the answer, but it's probably going to come down to a lucky guess. I'll see if i can remember which one it was.

I should probably add that even though i did finish New Vegas i kind of rushed through the game at the time. It was an impulse buy and at that time it wasn't really the type of game i was hoping it would be, but i wanted to finish it anyway. So i'm not really able to compare 4 to NV aside from the very obvious things like the leveling system.

Personally, I thought Sonic Generations was pretty freaking fun. I got it for the Xbox 360 when it came out, and loved the nostalgia. Very solid game.

With Mario, Zelda or older Sonic games you've just gotta play them yourself, and you understand the hype and the love.

Those games have perfect controls. And excellent level design.

Yeah see once I get paid next I'll be pciking up Sonic 2 and 3 on steam. I cannot be happier with the sonic games so far.

With Ace combat 7 being announced I will be starting a play through of ALL the ace combat series of games and doing 100% of each game. Going all the way back with Air Combat...cannot wait to start this journey

Got the newest Square Enix Humble Bundle and seriously considering Skyrim Legendary edition.

But then again, Skyrim is old by now and I have played it already...

And I bought the Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY edition from GreenManGaming. Cost me just €8, which is pretty amazing for so new game.

I've seen a lot of people getting back into Skyrim for whatever reason, so you might not be alone.

Finally looked into Path of Exile, and it's somewhat daunting. Feels like the sort of game with an impenetrable meta that you still need to get into if you want to get anywhere.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was amusing.  I think I spent more time on load screens from dying so easily.  Combat in that game is close to impossible.  Block button does nothing for me.  If you're into funny yet awesome adventure games, Uncharted will be the best thing that's happened to you in console games.  I promise.  Uncharted 4 comes out March 18th and the graphics I've seen are mind blowing.

IIRC you block/parry against humans (and dodge the heavy weapon guys) and dodge attacks from monsters. The combat seems to encourage actually thinking like a monster hunter, and taking your time when fighting, instead of just hacking and slashing mindlessly. Gotta read that bestiary man. ;)

Oh for sure.  I learned to fight and read the bestiary eventually, but for the first week - it was awful.  I was treating it like a game where I could just slash and hack my way through everything.  Like me when I fought Vorago for the first time.

Picked up Rebel Galaxy in the winter sale, and no regrets. It's a little getting used to, but so far, the game is everything I wanted in the Starpoint Gemini games, and more. The game has a self described naval combat style, with a focus on broadsides, and I love it.

Only managed like 2 hours before I decided to call it quits this time not to melt my GPU.

Shitty cooling, that laptop has.

But holy [bleep], it already starts off weird. And AWESOME!

This is a shooter for the story.

Been playing a lot of Super Mario 3d world with MIchelle. I need another game to get and I'm kinda at a lost. It's between Super Smash bros, Super Mario maker or Captain toads adventure. I think I'm going to with Super Smash bros but that might change, again lol.
