How does Runescape HD fare on netbooks such as the Acer Aspire One, Asus Eee PC or Dell Mini 9?

They only have a basic graphics chipset though.

The resolutions for most of the netbooks (if I remember rightly) aren't massively high. So I would expect you would get meduim to high settings on one of them.

On a similar note my laptop runs of the integrated graphics and can max out RS HD at the native res without any issues (granted the rest of the system is better then the standard netbook by a fair bit).

You'll also have to take into consideration the OS.

I think the only way to be sure is to get a demo of one and see for myself.

My work laptop which i belive has the same graphics chip as the Acer One runs HD pretty well and as long as I turn off some of the ground detail its pretty smooth. Aparently PC World will offer a demo if they think you are seriously looking at buying something from them so me and Suzi are gonna pop over weekend after next to try to have a go on one.

I'm not too bothered about anti aliasing, textured stones on the grass and all that jazz, but I would like it to run in full screen. I've been looking at specs and reccomendations for a little while now but the only way to be truely sure is to see it for my own eyes.

My laptop has the same graphics chip as most of these netbooks (GMA 950) and it plays HD fairly good. It can run full screen at max (AA not supported) with no lag except at GE, to get no lag in the whole game you need to lower the character detail. Although, my laptop is a Pentium dual core (non core2) so that may make a difference over those atom processors.

It depends what you mean by run. My brother's laptop can run HD to a certain extent , but I never have played it for long periods of time because the laptop gets extremely hot. It has an Intel GMA945 with 225MB memory, and will run the game full screen with most things turned on. However, after prolonged periods of time the laptop heats up to dangerous temperatures (about 70°C/158°F). It's slightly better when playing in a small window, but it still gets quite hot. So, yes it runs it, but because of the temperature issues I tended to stick to SD.

Yeah. I've played it on an acer netbook, and HD didn't run. Low detail did fine though, no lag.

Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again

  • 4 weeks later...

HD DOES work nicely on an Acer Aspire ONE, it does struggle on crowded areas like the GE... but almost everywhere else you can play with maxed video settings.

AA1 with Windows: you can play right out of the box on HD

AA1 with Linux: this gets a bit harder, you have to update firefox and java in order to get classic mode running (I haven't been able to get HD working on this one yet) EDIT: Thanks to JoeDaStudd, you only have to update java in order to get the classic mode running, if you want to know how, just google "Installing sun java on acer aspire one"

Oh and if you are interested you can watch my video, I made it for a local contest (which is basically for promoting the AA1, so I decided to show how powerful it is by playing RS HD on it!)

If this post breaks any rule by any mean, please let me know... I'll amend it or just remove it.

You don't even have to update firefox, simple install sun Java and change the Java usage priority.

It about 3 commands.

I've not actually test HD, but I'll have a play tonight.
