baraglas
There seem to be a lot of guidance around the place, on this site and elsewhere, on how to get ringmaster gear and the other clothing items at the circus. There's next to nothing about the experience rewards. Since I assume that most people who want a ringmaster outfit have got one by now, I thought it was time to do something about this. I've been logging the xp I've gained from circus performances for the last three weeks, and thought I'd share my findings with you. Mage and Agility performances were all carried out at levels 75 and 76 respectively, Ranged was done first at level 55, then at 56. Move Agility Magic Ranged Level Exp Exp Exp 10 312.5 970.5 687.5 20 416.5 2055 1455 30 830 2059 1458.5 40 833.5 2132.5 1510.5 50 1041.5 2206 1562.5 60 1354 2647 687.5* 70 1354 2794 687.5* 80 830* 2059* 687.5* 90 830* 2059* 687.5* 99 830* 2059* 687.5* TOTAL 8632 21041 10111.5 I have a number of observations to make on my results: [*:1wsjqffs]You can only earn experience once per performance for moves of a given level. If you do a move when you've already done one at that level you get the message "You already received XP for doing that move", even if it's two different moves (say blasting the shield and levitating the penguin in the magic performance). [*:1wsjqffs]It follows from the previous point that the way to maximize xp gains is to do one trick of each level from 10 to 99. The order in which you do the tricks isn't important, but personally I find it easier to keep track if I start from 10 and work up. [*:1wsjqffs]If you fail to do a move, you can try it again. The audience won't like it, but you'll get full experience if you succeed the second time. [*:1wsjqffs]If you succeed in doing a move that's higher than your level, you get a message saying "You succeed. but just barely" and receive much reduced xp reward. I've marked these results with a * above. For me, I got the same as a level 10 move in ranged, the same as a level 30 one in mage and agility. It seems likely that level has a role to play in what reward you get, but I don't have enough data to tell what it is. [*:1wsjqffs]Drinking potions etc. to boost levels has no effect on xp gained. I drank a range potion to boost my ranged leve into the 60s, but still got the reduced reward for doing the level 60 move. Presumably they do improve your chances of succeeding at a given move. [*:1wsjqffs]Experience gained is not derived from level in the crude way that, say, penguin points are. However there may be level-dependent effects that I can't determine like "x points per level until you reach a ceiling at level y" - like Tears of Guthix, for example. The numbers concerned are so un-round, and contain so many 0.5xp amounts, that it's hard to believe they weren't calculated in some way. [*:1wsjqffs]Emotes have no effect on xp gained. Results from characters whose levels are higher and lower than mine would flesh out these results and determine any level-dependent values. However, I note that my totals - 8K, 20K and 10K are broadly in line with what other players have reported, so there may not be a lot of variation. I hope people find these results useful and are able to add something to them.

Danqazmlp
I found this out yesterday when i did the circus. Gained around 8k exp from my agility performance doing one of every level, not failing once. Want to be my friend? bedman
That's what I've been doing since 3 weeks. My results yesterday: 23k mage xp (1 failure), 1#k ranged xp (2 failures), and 7.5k agil xp (1 failure). I've gotten up to 15k ranged xp earlier. A Guide to Chinning in Ape atoll: up to 325kxp/h! SoulAttacker
Just tried this out and recorded my exp gained for this week. Agility: 9,892 exp (Fail: 0; Barely succeed: 2) Range: 16,773 exp (Fail: 0; Barely succeed: 1) Magic: 25,007 exp (Fail: 0; Barely succeed: 0) Did the whole circus in less than three minutes. Conclusion: Spending three minutes a week to get over 50k exp is definitely worth it, even if you're already level 99 in the skill. Skipping out would be foolish, to say the least. 11th to 99 Summoning85th to 99 Runecrafting

Ravenkana
I'd suggest starting from lowest to highest as higher levels fail more often AND give reduced exp. If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system. Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased. The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

baraglas
@ultigamer: Maybe, I wasn't sure so I posted in the more general forum. If somebody wants to move it, I'm happy. @jenove: Mmmmmmm... carrots... @soulattacker: Are you sure you barely succeeded at agility twice? I'd expect it only once at your level. It'd be useful to know how much xp you earned for each move, though I know it's a pain noting down all the figures. @swordking: Yup. It's my second bullet point. @DenUsynlige: Thanks for the totals, could do with a full breakdown next week... @Ravenkana: Good point.

SportsGuy
It's ironic that pointing out spam is really a form of spam itself... Anyway, I was really in the dark about the experience awards. I thought it had something to do with your points gained in each "event" and I suppose I should have looked closer. This is a REALLY important addition to the guide I think. I know there's plenty of stuff to help get the items, but since I've already received all the high items, I'd welcome the opportunity to get some of the lower ones while increasing experience. Thanks for the post...I think I will come up with "a routine" for myself that I can do each week and cut down on the chances of repeating stuff. baraglas
Another week, another trip to the circus. Again, I've been logging experience gained for each move. I don't have anything to add to my original findings on Agility and Magic as I'm the same level as I was last week. In ranged, I've gone up to level 60 (during the circus performance, actually) so I can add a couple of numbers: Doing the level 60 ranged move earns you 1875xp (may actually be 1874.5 or 1875.5, I can't tell having only done it once!). Doing level 70+ ranged moves if you're level 60 earns you 1455xp, i.e. the same as a level 20 move. Previously, in the mid-50s, I was getting level 10 xp. I've already observed what happens if your level is in the 70s in magic and agility. This leads me to a theory: When you complete a move whose level is higher than your actual level, the experience you will get will be (highest level move that's <= your level) - 40, or (presumably) level 10 if your level is less than 50. That is, when doing a move that is above your level... [*:24mtjjt3]If you're level 1-59, you'll get the same xp as the level 10 move [*:24mtjjt3]If you're level 60-69, you'll get the same xp as the level 20 move [*:24mtjjt3]If you're level 70-79, you'll get the same xp as the level 30 move [*:24mtjjt3]If you're level 80-89, you'll get the same xp as the level 40 move [*:24mtjjt3]If you're level 90-98, you'll get the same xp as the level 50 move [*:24mtjjt3]If you're level 99, there aren't any moves above your level! What we need to prove this hypothesis is for people of levels 1-49, 80-89 and 90-99 to do the circus and log what xp they get for moves above their level. What we also need is for people with high enough range, mage and/or agility to post what they get for the level 70 range move, and the level 80, 90 and 99 moves in all three skills. It could be a long wait until I'm 99 in all three!

smobo
Have some stats: Magic (lv 90) Start xp: 5,837,555 lv 99: 5,839,761 (2,206) lv 90: 5,843,286 (3,525) lv 80: 5,846,374 (3,088) lv 70: 5,849,168 (2,794) lv 50: 5,851,374 (2,206) total gain: 13,819 I did horrible on that run (and acidently skipped the lv 60 event). I wasn't wearing any circus clothing, and didn't do any emotes. Agility (lv 66) Start xp: 533,017 lv 10: 533,330 (313) lv 20: 533,746 (416) lv 30: 534,576 (830) lv 40: 535,410 (834) lv 50: 536,451 (1,041) lv 60: 537,805 (1,354) lv 70: 538,222 (417) lv 80: 538,638 (416) lv 90: fail (assume 416-417 probly) lv 99: 539,055 (417) Total: 6,038 Not to bad tbh, only failed one Ranged (lv 86) Start: 3,906,536 lv 10: 3,907,233 (697) lv 20: 3,908,678 (1,445) lv 30: 3,910,137 (1,459) lv 40: 3,911,647 (1,510) lv 50: 3,913,210 (1,563) lv 60: 3,915,085 (1,875) lv 70: 3,917,064 (1,979) lv 80: 3,919,251 (2,187) lv 90: 3,920,762 (1,511) total gain:14,226 I wore full ringleader, no megaphone. Tbh, i didn't believe you at first, cause it seemed to good to be true. but almost 40k free xp doesn't lie. I noticed my stats confirm baraglas's theory, lv 90 for range is the same as lv 40, lv 99 magic = lv 50 and lv 70-99 agi = lv 20 (give or take the decimals), I also think wearing circus clothes help you preform actions, but don't affect your xp. It takes ~5-6 mins to get there and do everything, which is about 140k ranged, 140k mage, and 60k agi xp/hr. And its free to. Got his first skill cape April 7th 2009, at lv 121+12 cb and 2000 total
