RuneScape businesses?

This might sound like the craziest idea you've ever hears, but what if you could actually start and own a business in RS. Not like merchanting or selling stuff on the GE, but an actual shop like at the Bandit Camp in the wilderness. That shop sells pizzas or something like that. Your shop would sell some usefull item or items in a place where people need or use them a lot.

Now, I know this might sound completely stupid to people, but I'm sure that if everyone inputs some sort of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, we can turn this into something really really cool.

Just don't call me and my big ideas stupid! :D

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob.

To run a shop you'd basically go and gather stock, put it in your shop, and wait for people to buy.

Go get your junk. Put it on the Grand Exchange. Wait for people to pay for said junk.

Congratulations, have just setup your own shop.

Before the trade updates there were various business based out of RSOF that had workers and such. They sold for a cheaper price but had buying cap. But this idea I'm not to fond of because of the RWT chances.

Yeah, there's the GE, but standing there and selling stuff would get boring after a while, wouldn't it? These shops would have assistants like RS shops, so you wouldn't have to sit there and rune the shop youself. Then, if you're making a lot of money, you could franchise your business and make even more money. As far as stocking hte shop, get friends to help and split profits.

Before the Grand Exchange was added the idea of player owned shops was highly desired, now it's pretty much obsolete.

I doubt it would work if it was released, everyone would find out where a good place for a specific kind of shop is, and thousands would open shops in the same areas. To get stuff for their shops, most people will buy the materials from the Grand Exchange, it would be very difficult to make a decent profit. Not to mention that Jagex will surely add something like having to pay the "workers" there like butlers in POHs. That would make it much harder to make a profit. (unless you're willing to stand there all day every day yourself)

You dont have to stand at the grand exchange. I guess you didn't learn that you put the junk in, walk away, and said junk will sell whenever people want it. as for ads, it'd be worthless... there 6 million people.. no one cares when theres 6m different ads to look at.

As for getting stocks with friends to split profit... why can't you all just go get your junk and put it on the ge? it isnt hard... :wall:

Before the GE this was a very interesting idea. But now that you have the GE where you can put your items on for sale and just leave.. well.. player-owned shops really aren't necessary.

Pirate Rosetta stone. Learn a language while you scape.

Sounds interesting, but these days how many people really speak Pirate?

would you want to look through 1000 shops trying to find whatever you want to buy?

I think not!

I'd open up a bakery that sold half-baked ideas!

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

Small family run shops go out of business because of corporations like wal mart because wal mart does a better job than small family run shops.

Runescape player shops go out of business because of the grand exchange because the grand exchange does a better job than player shops.

And before i get people saying "ya, but they completely took out the player interaction of looking for a sale and going to world one," i'm sorry, but the grand exchange in 30 seconds, or if it's a slow item something you can set overnight, is a lot better than having to do the same in real time, especially if it was a rare item.

besides, the grand exchange opens up a ton of creative oppourtounities to level up skills, easily allowing you to get items that would normally take ages to havest yourself because noone would know to collect them, or you'd have to hire people to get items you needed so that you could make the items you wanted.

Nowadays, you can set something to buy or sell and just wait, or better yet go back to training!

Really, the only way to do this is if jagex set up a whole new skill, something that would allow you more flexability with the prices, and your xp would be based on the value of items sold through your business, allowing people to buy from you at a reduced rate, and you to buy from people at a reduced rate. This could be like a high alch skill, where if you buy 100k worth of items, you would only spend 95k, but your trader would still get 100k. And with their stance on real world trading, there would have to be a cap on this: something like the trade maximum, but seperate from it.

Number of usefull items that can be sold in bulk (not armour ect) divided by the numbers of players who would all want to try this = A massive amount of shops, all selling the same crap that you can just buy from the GE quicker.

Useless.
