Skillcapes

I've noticed a number of people around the game and around this board complaining that they dont recive respect for their skillcapes. Not so long ago we had no skill capes. If you were a 99, you just either proved it with high scores or just shut up about it. The skill capes, like so many other changes Jagex has made, were a big mistake. They have turned this game into a race to level 99, by a bunch of wieners who want "Respect". Who cares about "Respect"? Why cant you just play the game?

People have less respect for the Feltching and Cooking skill capes, because they just aren't as hard to get as the others. You must understand that it is harder to get a Slayer or Construction Skillcape. You can't just sit down one day, and write up a neat little plan on how you are going to get 99 Slayer or Construction in a few days, or even a week. Practically all I do in Runescape is Slayer, to train and make money, and Pvp. I have been doing this for nearly 4 years now, and I am nowhere near a 99 level in slayer.

You whiny moaners can't expect respect for having 99 in a skill that well over 50,000 people have level 99 in. If you get a skill cape for the stats that is fine, but if you go around demanding respect for a cape that takes maybe 4 days to get, you are wrong.

I have a defence cape... untrimmed. and 2 skills, soon to be 3 at level 98. I find it amusing when people call me a noob since my cape is untrimmed and I am 126 combat.. Yet the only cape they have is fletching or cooking or firemaking. (Things you can get in a months time) I enjoy my untrimmed cape which is why I keep my stats under 99. Do I have the right to demand respect.. no, this is a game I really do not have a right to ask anything of my fellow players. So I can see where you are coming from there.

However, I do respect all skillcapes, whether one person or 40,000 people have 99 in it they all get my respect. Am I impressed by someone with 99 fletching.. not necessarily, but I do respect them for taking the time to grind away at it even if it was only for a couple months and not a year.

Also, just so you know, with enough money you can get 99 construction in a very short amount of time. So you should of used RC'in or mining or agility even, as an example to get your point across more thoroughly, since they are the longest skills to get 99 in along with slayer. (As far as I can remember)

Apparently, my signature was to big.

Think different. I avoided trimming my cooking cape until 129 combat, shortly before I got 90 summoning. Just so I could see people flip out and try to make fun of me for it. Your not going to get any real respect out of people in an anonymous computer game.

I for one like my skillcape because it goes great with my outfit. Personally, I haven't seen too many people bashing me; only complimenting as Firemaking can give you a bit of Carpal tunnel. I do care because it is annoying if you see people randomly bashing you all the time. Especially when your ignore list goes up. But, what can you do?

Personally, I do like the skill Firemaking; I've always did. In real life, I've found a fascination for electricity and fire, so that's probably why. ;)

i find it strange because you should actually get a 99 because you:

a. like the skill

or b. need it for money or something else

NOT FOR RESPECT!

respect is a side component that comes with the cape. so if someone tells you "your cooking/fletch/fm cape is n00bish" theres a magic way to make it all go away. say "1...2...3...you have now been added to my ignore list" and in two little clicks...*poof* its all gone.

Who cares about "Respect"? Why cant you just play the game?

Obviously you care about it quite a bit. Why can't you just play the game instead of lecturing other people how to play? Nobody likes an eight year old telling them how to do things (omg u r weeners lool) considering you're being just as arrogant as some of the people you're claiming to be against.

Also: Someone sounds a little angsty over not having a skillcape and is pulling the "Yea, I never wanted it anyway" routine.

Tbh the only reason fletching, cooking, and firemaking dont deserve (as much) respect as most of the other capes is because people who get 99 in the skill are lazy, and usually the kind who would call you a noob because you DONT have a 99.

I'd agree with Giga, that you should get a 99 if you like the skill or kinda need the money. Not just so you can "5h0w 0ff ur 3p1c 99 fl3tch c4p3".

Noone likes fletching. It's boring as hell.

It loses almost no money unless you consider 50k alot, its quick, and easily done to talk to ur fletchin m8s.

On the other hand, skills that cost alot demand more respect as you're much more dedicated.

Also, to people who get flamed cause they have 99 fletch/cook/fm/anything easy, dont come back with the "wheres ur 99 skil?"

Cause frankly, im sure most people who dont have a 99 and are flaming you are trying to get a GOOD 99.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

I'm working on my cooking cape because;

A) I've been playing 3 years now and have no skill capes

B) Cooking is easy to get to 99

C) I can make good $$ selling cooked turtles and rays

I'm not working on my cooking cape because;

A) I demand respect

B) I give a crap how impressed or not impressed others will be

C) I like purple

If anyone says "nice skill cape", they'll get a "ty" from me.

If anyone says "your cooking cape is teh noob" they'll get a "fu" from me.

I play RS to have fun and accomplish tasks/goals/quests. Pretty sad if you care what someone else thinks imo.

All 99's are hard to get, in their own special way (cue kids show theme).

Some 99's are bank grinders. These skills can be leveled by sitting at a bank and constantly depositing and withdrawing resources. These skills are fletching, herblore, crafting, and magic (high alch). These skills are hard because, while not brain-intensive, their rank on the boredom level is "OH MY GOD KILL ME NOW". Some of these 99's only take a few days, but chances are you will have stuck a pen in your temple before then.

Other 99's are harvester skills. These skills do not consume any money to level, and can turn quite a profit. Harvester skills generally require a lot more clicking than the bank grinders, most have the same boredom rank, and are usually slow to level. These skills are mining, fishing, and woodcutting. These skills are hard to get because your biggest obstacle will most likely be the inactivity log-out feature, not to mention pen-in-my-ear boredom.

Other 99's are passive-aggressive skills. These skills are less active, but still require a lot of attention on the player's part. These skills generally require one click for every action, much like in Runescape classic. Such skills include smithing, theiving, agility, prayer, farming, firemaking, runecrafting, and construction.

Other 99's are active participating skills. These skills are usually seen as more fun to level, since they're active and involve a lot of bloodshed. These skills include attack, defense, strength, range, health, magic, and hunter. These skills are not very difficult to train and keep attention, and the question of training them generally breaks down to what is most effective.

A lot of people I know who got fletching capes first did it because it was the easiest, but moreso because of the profit they were gaining from training it, which they planned on using to get other 99's.

Personally, I don't think 99's deserve "respect" (IE: The kind of respect you give someone in real life). Now having a yo-yo, that deserves respect ;)

Then you're twice as respected. One second, I'll see if I have that red carpet in my closet...

Fletching is just the easiest 99 to get.

Why does everyone show so much resentment toward 99 fletching, cooking and fmin JUST because they are easy to get?

Okay so you don't want 99 in those skills, probably because they are easy. Does that give anyone the right to tell someone else they don't deserve a simple "congratulations on your achievement"...? Why is it so hard to say that? Because you do not approve of getting an easy 99 for the cape (which is a nice alternative to a fire cape, should one not be able to get it) they are undeserving of a congratulations?

Apparently, my signature was to big.

I actually agree with the author on this. Why would anyone want to get a 99 skill for respect? Who cares what some kid behind a computer thinks of you? I have 2 99 skills, but I don't expect respect from anyone. If anything, wearing the dang cape is annoying as hell. People go "nice cape", "how long did it take you to get it", "how long would it take me to get 99 from __", and let's not forget this jewel: "what's your (skillcape skill) level". Now instead of wearing my skill cape with my skilling outfit, I usually just wear my regular old green cape from the MSSW3 just to avoid having to answer the mindless questions. It's just about as annoying as when people insist you tell them what your level is in whatever it happens you are doing. I do wear it for fighting though, as stats and prayer bonus are good.

thats just the thing, fm isnt noob only those who say that are noob, same with cook and fletch.

i would never do cook/fletch cuz i dont like the skill, but when i did fm in G E every 10 sec ther was some1 coming around asking my lvl and a nice wow when i told then. its not because u dont have the time to wasted on such skills there arent realy skillcapes...

anyway getting 99 isnt for glory its for personal archivement, some sort of been there done that. and if some1 says 'nice' or 'gratz' for it, ok i'll just say tks. if he doesnt, i wont sleep bad a night...

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a few 99s, one of them runecrafting and another fletching. I can wear the runecrafting cape and every trip I make to the dagganoths or wherever it is I'm going, I'll get a "nice rc cape" from someone. Should I choose to wear my fletching cape, it's a different story. It's always been trimmed as my first 99 was something else, but one day I wore the fletching cape and was asked if my other 99 was cooking.

Now, I've learned to wear neither of them when training combat. Magic cape FTW, only questions I get are "how much did it cost?", and no digs at it being an easy 99.

Ah skillcapes, 5 year if playing, level 125 combat and I still don't have one ::'

I do have a quest cape but, blah that doesn't really count, and I won't try arguing that it does or it does not.

My view on skillcapes is that they were designed for showing people that you were dedicated enough to a skill to achieve the feet of 99 in that level, however as much as most of us know, that with skillcapes nowadays it shows that you were dedicated enough to that skill in order to get the cape.

So yeah, we have people dedicated to getting that skillcape they desire instead of that 99, and many are getting those skillcapes for all the wrong reasons.

I personally think skillcapes were not a bad idea, however of course there's those people who only want the honour of such achievements for the purpose of showing off, and the skillcapes were perfect for those peoples.

Which makes me think, going for my first (real) skillcape at the moment, the attack cape (95/99 so far) but I need to think what reason am I getting it for? :?

(also on a very important side note here, when you see someone with a skillcape on that you wish to complement them on, do you say nice 99 or nice cape?)

I've never understood this obsession with skillcapes. I wouldn't consider getting 13m exp in a skill any more than I would consider 200m exp. They are both completely arbitrary numbers, and I've never felt obligated to train that high just because Jagex stops the levelling system there. Getting the 3.5m exp to get 85 is hard enough, so I stop there. It's exactly a quarter of the experience for 99, and many skills stop there in terms of rewards, so it feels right. Currently 85 mining, smithing, agility, thieving and getting 85 att str def and range, and after that i don't intend on training those skills any further.
