Levels of Respect

It's true that I made a LOT More friends as a 'noob' :P Now all I get when I'm training slayer is 'slay lvl?' or 'why u still train slayer past 99'... They don't seem to hate me, they just don't seem to want to be friendly, almost like a business partnership :P

I try not to type in 1-word answers that are so typical of those people who are more concerned about killing Abyssal Demons than socialising, and I'll always try to help random people in a bank, I don't disrespect lower levels than myself, as long as they speak maturely and aren't just trying to annoy people or get free money :D

What's been said about lower levels in expensive gear is definately true too. I always slay with the good old setup of Whip and Guthans, yet the guy 20 combats below me with a Godsword seems to get followed and gawped at by the low levels :P

Of course a high-level familiar seems to earn you respect, despite the ongoing 'omg summons nubb ruins ur combat' thing that is STILL Going round the game...

The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to those who think they've found it.

I prefer to judge people by what they say and do instead of what their levels are. Anyone can get a high level in any skill; it's really not that hard. I have the most respect for the players who have proven that they know what they're doing, generally by writing really good guides on stuff...examples would be Qeltar or Zarfot.

Well actually, that's a bit of a fib. I have the most respect for the Jagex mods. They're the ones in charge. ;)

Here's the hierarchy:

Chuck Norris > Jagex mods > players who really know what they're doing > player mods > players who know what they're doing > players who are respectful, or at least nice > Bob the Jagex Cat > Cyrisus ( ) > penguins > Wise Old Man > players who can't spell > lv2 men > lv2 goblins > Drunken Dwarf > players who can't spell and don't know what they're doing either > chickens > dirt > cheaters > hackers > bots

Chuck Norris goes first because I'm pretty sure the laws of physics require it. Not putting him there is like sneezing with your eyes open or kissing your elbow--it's just something you can't do.

Lol  I totally agree with that hierarchy of respect

I notice alot that you do get more respect, im currently 137 combat and idk why but everyone seems to say hi. I almost allways talk back unless im busy / talking to someone and i think due to this alot of 'noobs' like me cause they see me as nice for talking to them , when most high levels just ignore them.

I think the key thing is , how you want to be treated , is how you should treat people.

Higher levels generally think more... alike? they have the same views on boss hunting, and useless skills, how to make money, quests. all that good stuff.

where as lower levels (usually ~110-115 (P2P) and lower) tend to have this kind of attitude: z0mg phr33 m0n4y 1 oonl33y h4v3s 800k, h0w 2 m3ke c4shh!!

I'm the same. If you were to ask me how to make money, kill bosses, skill fast, or consume one's own severed leg in one sitting (And yes, I have been consulted on the matter), I wouldn't have an answer, and I'm 10....8 combat.

Being high level in runescape isn't like being a celebrity as much as it is like walking around with your Masters Degree showing at all times. People are going to ask you questions about money, and little kids will want advice and want you to help with their homework.

I dont mind the level ... it happens more often to find someone nice to talk with and he is -30 , -40 even more to me , and some 130 lvls that dont know how to play ... and I wonder how they got to the levels they have ... just grinding not knowing any other methods .. they have done quests and ask questions like "where do I get silverlight" for example ...

actualy I prefer the lower levels ... they dont think they are some sort of gods , and are talkable ...

It keeps getting worse too. Sorry to be presumptuous but if you are level 130+ then you probably have a good attention span and enough intelligence to plan out how you'd get that strong. That's how things used to be, but combat has no correlation with intellect anymore. The worst part is when they bring up their stats and act like their levels make them superior to you, despite their huge lack of eloquence.

Yeah, you're gonna sit here on the computer and call me an "epic fail" just because your numbers are higher and I'm the one who's supposed to feel down from it?

To agree with your point about intellect, I had to teach one my 138 friends how to hunt, he was baffled by it.

Right now, the most conversation I get is "Omg! Crafting cape! How'd you train it!? How much did it cost!?" and so on. Eventually they'll ask me to add them, then they'll never talk to me again, :wall:

Other than that, unless I help start a conversation, I'm usualy quiet in-game.

I personally believe there are as many noobs at level 100-105 as there are 70-90, well in members at least. I don't care about people of 100 cb I never seen the attraction for it but I can seee the attraction for 110+

No one talks anymore -.-

I have to agree there, I've been playing for a decent number of years now and only have 2 people on my friends list I talk to regulary. The rest are people I talked to once or twice and then never talk again.

In my opinion no one deserves respect, it can only be earned. It's about how people react to people rather than how many hours they put in a game.

If you're a high level P2P player don't go to F2P Varrock or you'll regret that for the rest of your life. Everytime I do that players start following me and ask "OMG wat i sthat waepon can i buy it plz plzp lz 1k plzplz" or "phr33 m0n3y pl0x". However, the intelligent F2P players seem to be around the Lumbridge cow field (the one next to Al Kharid gate). I went to F2P world 1 once with member items on. I started alching maple longs at the Lumbridge Castle. Surprisingly, only one player asks me how I did that glow. I told him and went to Falador next. No one said anything to me. Then I went to Varrock, and the first thing I saw was a lvl 5 noob asking me for free items. I told him to train his skills to get money. After that, I went to Lumbridge cowfield wielding my Blurite Sword. No one called me a noob, no one asked me for items or money. I chatted with them for at least half an hour, and got a chunk of strength xp from the cows there. So, if you go to F2P, go to the cowfield :)

Generally, the most stupid players are lvl 3-20 F2P's ("phr33 st00f pl0x!") and lvl 60-70 P2P's ("dude ur n00b u have a dragon scimitar and i have a whip and it's much better than ur scimitar and u have no life and i'm the b357 and u failed at life and i r***d ur mom"). However, there are exceptions.

I'm lvl 89 (with summoning, 84 without) and I don't have a whip, a black mask, any barrows items, or really anything that costs 300k+. I bought a whip once and sold it after 5 mins as I noticed that it's not that good really. My dragon scimitar does the job with 1/10 of the cost :) I've always been like that; I try to do everything without wasting money. For example, when I did Monkey Madness, I got every single item that I needed myself (food, gold bars, balls of wool and so on). I've played since August '05 and I don't have any 80+ skills, so what? I train my skills equally and that's the way I like. I don't care if someone calls me a noob, as a noob wouldn't get 160 QP's very easily :)

And if you really read this all, have a cookie ;)

Your level 84 and you get hounded by low-level F2per's? What were you wearing? I'm 85 and I can't remember the last time another player acted immature to me or begged for free stuff (was so long ago). Though it may be because I'm F2p and the most expensive thing I have walked around in is full Guthix rune armour...

Since i'm a low combat level next to a main (despite having the offensive stats normally found around 110 cb) people who have defence and are lower combat then me generally are noobs. And I don't have much patience for them. Then again alot of the higher level people with defence are also noobs. It's fun watching them say things like omg str nub before they die though, so they serve their purpose.

Here's the hierarchy:

Chuck Norris > Jagex mods > players who really know what they're doing > player mods > players who know what they're doing > players who are respectful, or at least nice > Bob the Jagex Cat > Cyrisus ( ) > penguins > Wise Old Man > players who can't spell > lv2 men > lv2 goblins > Drunken Dwarf > players who can't spell and don't know what they're doing either > chickens > dirt > cheaters > hackers > bots

i can confirm kissing your elbow not possible at the moment tested 6:56pm

I don't bother making friends with randoms, regardless of level.

I just talk to the people I know well in other forums & people I know in real life.

Only fear God,

Know the weapons of the weak,

The weakness of the hard.

Ever since I gained level 100 in f2p, hardly anyone has bashed me except in the rare clan wars match where I get teamed and people call me a noob for being killed so fast by 6 level 70s <_<...

Though out in public the only time people talk to me is,

1. There in TFS

2. The want my wooly hat (Christmas '05)

I've noticed that I get less crap as I've gotten higher combat and during slayer as i got a higher combat level i noticed it was easier to strike conversation with other people that were slaying. Sometimes when a lower combat person asks me a question and i answer in public chat they go "omg you talked" when i was around 103ish i used to get "omg agility cape!! emote" but then that became less common. All my good friends in runescape i met over a year ago most people i add now i dont really talk to as much or they ask me question. As a low level you usually make conversation about real life and are less grind focused more likely doing things just for fun so people are more friendly as higher levels you strive for goals. Low levels do tend to be younger and thats why oftentimes they seem immature. It takes long to get high levels so people that have played a year or 2 are also a year older from when they started runescape and therefore more mature. When i was a low level less than 100 f2p no high levels talked to me even at level 116 no one really talked to me that were higher than me. when summon came out i had a squirrel pretty early and people were like "omg squirrel how did u train summoning" i was 124 or so then. I think you tend to notice people alot based on the combat level, it usually correlates to their experience in the game. Most people tend to be friends with people that play the game similar to themselves as well. Like attitude on moneymaking is an important quality i prefer runecraft and never touch bosses and never really saw the important of high gear and my friends are pretty much the same runecraft for money or gather a lil money overtime instead of power for bosses.

So anyway making friends at 80-115 p2p is gonna get you better quality friends than searching at level 130+ for friends why, because 130+ have already established their game play style and have gained friends based on that game play style. Also a 130+ usually plays more hours/day than a like level 110 and the more hours you play the more important your runescape friends are too you anyway i respect most people 135+ that have the skiller mindset and play for skills other 135+ tend to be more arrogant....

tbh it is different to everybody. there is sometimes no levels of respect depending on ur level because if u r a higher level u r a no lifer and if u r a lower level u r a noob. lets say ur a runescape idol which i wont say a name... people have respect for u meanwhile ppl think u no-life and is some nerdy kid

I think it just has to do with the fact your combat level is in the triple digits, no matter where you are in the 100s just seeing 3 digits instead of 2 gets you a lot more respect. And I have noticed a difference in how people talk to me, or how I get approached by someone since I joined the 100+ club (102 CB). Though one potential disadvantage of leveling too far up out of want for respect is as someone stated after a certain point - 120 CB or so - other players seem too intimidated to try and talk to you, inadvertently isolating you from the community. Even I'm a little hesitant sometimes to try and start a conversation with someone in the 130's because I feel like they'll just blow me off, which has happened a few times.

I'm level 133, and I think more people wanted to start conversations when my combat was in the 80-100 range. Since then, more and more of my conversations begin with "what item is that?" or "how long did that 99 skill take?"

I hate to say it, but a lot of times I don't bother responding, because it always seems to lead to more questions.

Now I can see why sometimes I get blown off by 130's, that would get pretty tiring after awhile, being asked the same questions day in and day out. :?
