Johannas
...So I thought it would be a good idea to spend many evenings doing something other than playing computer games/ watching tv shows. Apparently my parents want me to do something better with my spare time... I thought i had it sorted, but obviously not. I'm looking to undertake a new hobby... and spent hours last night thinking of what to do, but to no avail. Things i do that i consider a "hobby" Photography Playing the guitar Sad, isn't it? My average day would consist of: 07.00 - Getting up, taking a shower and getting ready to college 08.00 - Leave the house to go to college 16.45 - Arrive home from college And then in between the 5 hours of 17.00 and 22.00 my evening consists of playing the guitar, watching the tv/ a film, playing runescape, doing other mindless rubbish on the computer, and a bit of photography. However during the winter it's been hard to go out and take pictures since the evenings are dark, the weather is rubbish and it's cold in the UK. Saturday is better, because i go to work all day and when i come home there's always people wanting to go watch a film/go to a party etc... but sundays and weekday evenings are the worst for me :( I listen to music at least 5 hours a day, so i figured i like music :D and apart from that all i do is college work. I used to skateboard all the time in the summer, but i lost all my skating buddies....and my doctor says i'm too tall to skate?! It's something i might get back into when summer comes though. I've thought about painting model aeroplanes, sketching, doing that warhammer stuff, learning languages, fishing, reading etc... but none of it really interests me. Possible ideas: 1. Computer art/graphical design (Anyone know any free programs that would be decent for me to use?) 2. 3. 4. Anyone give me some ideas? I've only come up with one, and somehow that still involves spending evenings on the computer #-o Thanks : Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig! nine naked men
Take up some form of indoor sports, like futsal, indoor cricket or hockey, maybe? Take up swimming, if they have heated pools near where you live, or just tough it out... with frostbite. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
BlueLancer
If you want various physical activities, I can recommend gym (with a moderate diet and planning), plus buy a pool table. Poker is also a really nice social game, and extremely cheap to set up, all you need is a deck of cards and a table. Swimming rules too and you can do it at almost no cost, $3 where I live for an hour. I usually go once a week Don't know if your parents would approve, but you could play console games with friends. I got the Wii/360 with a plasma mostly for playing with people who come over to my place. Console games are also fun to play alone, especially action/adventure ones (like Zelda and that stuff)
Faux
it's better to have focus on few hobbies than to have many just to say you do. nothing wrong with guitar/photography as hobbies :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::

I also play snooker every Wednesday after college, and would love a pool table in my house but it's a little small to handle the size of the table. I'm liking the idea of new sports, also. AndyPandy
For graphics, get GIMP. It's comparable to photoshop (a little less user friendly), and completely free and open source. Have a go, there are loads of tutorials around the web to get you started. Another idea for a hobby is nitro R/C racing. It's really fun. It's just racing remote control cars, but they have minature 2-stroke engines, and run on nitromethane. The one I currently have is the Ansmann Vapor. It's a good, 1/8th scale buggy, can handle 6-7ft jumps, and to top it all off can do over 45MPH when looked after properly. The car was a gift, but I beleive it was around £220. What also helps, is in my area, there is a model shop, 'Phil Greeno Models'. This guy is a real pro at this, world champ in '77. He has helped me no end with nitro cars, especially when I was just getting into it. Look for some R/C model shops around your area, they will advise you more than I can. Though, IMO, it would be best to egt a buggy to start out with. Good for jumping, fast, and can go pretty much anywhere. If you need any more info, PM me. I can tell you pretty much anything you need to know. EDIT: You gotta remember though, these things are LOUD. Don't run one in your street, you'll annoy everyone. Find an empty car park or field, they're usually best. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. Sam
If you want to do computer arts, download GIMP, and perhaps other open source graphics programs like Inkscape and Blender. You could learn French :XD: I am. err..I would carry on Skating, being too tall for skating is a load of bull. Warhammers is also good, keeps you occupied for hours when I used to do it. OldJoe
You have great sea-fishing in the UK, so either you can do (beach) casting or go out in a boat. Or fly-fishing in the rivers. Depends on where you live tho (obviously). Fishing is good also, though it can easily turn into an addictive, and expensive hobby D: My friend spent £280 on rods & reels, and bags to store them in  It also requires patience, so if you get bored easily, or have a short fuse, then fishing isn;t for you. So, be warned. I'm not against fishing in any way, if it sounds like that's the point I'm trying to put across. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM

Ginger_Warrior
Really, I think you've thought into this way too much. You appear to be suffering from self-consciousness over your identity when there's really no need for you to feel worried. If people like you, they'll like you for who you are, not what hobbies you're into. It never hurts to try new things though, or expand on things that give you contentment. Even something as basic as exercise could be considered a hobby, so you've got a whole list to choose from; running, going to the gym, swimming, sports. Anything recreational would also count. Instead of spending all your time on the GIMP if you're going into that, try and spend time away from the computer conceptualising ideas on paper. I wouldn't know when it comes to art (I'm hopeless at drawing stuff), but when it comes to writing historical essays and such, I've found it much easier to come up with ideas on paper in rough before going for the final thing. There you are. You're no longer doing a hobby on the computer. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

RpgGamer
Paintball is damn good fun. but expensive. You seem to be into the artsy stuff (music + photography = artsy), but graphic designing has already been suggested... ever try drawing? or... painting? hell, even poetry. Those are just artsy examples, there's plenty of otehr stuff you could do Quote Quote Anyone who likes tacos is incapable of logic. Anyone who likes logic is incapable of tacos. Zierro
Go for walks to places you never been before and bring friends with you. Not exactly a hobby but it's along the same lines. It might not seem constructive, but walking is actually very good for your soul. :D Loooky
