Gandorf61
Edit January 21 2009 New poll on the main page so you will have to look at the previous poll section to see the quote I'm talking about. I just voted in the poll on the main page (you should too) and noticed at the top of all the questions it says: "To celebrate the new year, the Poll Orks have chosen some of your best questions for this poll. The theme may be as unpredictable as the Chaos Elemental, but they hope that answering the questions will be plain SAILING for you." As some people know the Chaos Elemental often drops hints about future updates, and thus being in the same line as sailing it makes me think about it a little more. Also why would Jagex specifically choose to use those exact words to describe the poll? Perhaps this is hinting at a new skill, quest, or minigame in the future? We have had some evidence and speculation about sailing being a skill (a banner at the top of the main page of someone sailing on a ship when HD was released) so there is a very good chance of it being a new skill this year. Or maybe it revolves around a new minigame they are working on. Or another option is that it could be hinting at a possible new quest (such as sailing to a new land for the Museum of Varrock). If not then maybe it just means nothing and I am just thinking way too much about this. (I highly doubt that though :P) What do you guys think it means? Or has anyone else found other hints in the new poll as well? Update January 17 2009 A lot of feedback about there being a sailing skill, both good and positive. I encourage you to read at least part of the thread to see some good arguments and points from other players. On another note there is a great thread on the RSOF (QFC-76-77-139-57861125) on the idea of there being an exploration skill that combines sailing, and several other concepts together. Even a Jagex Mod has read it an has passed it on for consideration to the Content Development Team. :D (Thanks 1245780 for finding the thread) Update February 2 2009 Soul Wars On the deepest, darkest, most mysterious of our backwater islands, an eternal struggle rages, unknown to the residents of RuneScape until now. Structured much like Castle Wars, this will be a quick to access, tough to master conflict-based minigame. The avatars of Destruction and Creation vie for control of the Soul Obelisk, an ancient and powerful artefact used to harvest the souls of the weak and unready. Get ready to grab your blade, staff or bow and battle through Slayer creatures, collecting fragments of their souls to feed to the ever-hungry obelisk. Rewards include combat XP while playing the game, Pest Control-style XP rewards and a few new pets for you to lead. I think this is what all the references may have been pointing too since the beginning. All that debate for nothing! =p I meant that all the clues were just pointing to a new island where a minigame (Soul Wars) will take place. Sailing was just a wrong speculation; for now. Toad
jagex always tease and hype up things, wait for an official post, jagex are after the hype, they thrive off it.. do you remember the posts by mod simon last year about pirates?. Intersting to see we just had the 149th quest, i wonder if the 150th brings a skill, maybe its closer than we think.
Ollyc3
I still think people are thinking way too much into this, but on the otherhand there are no boats in runescape whatsoever so im gonna invest my whole bank in bronze meds in preparation for Sailing. 2376/2376 total achieved - May 2009 Retired Dec 2009

Mugunge
Personally i just think theyre trying to mess with people. Theyve done it in the past when people got too excited about certain rumours. Besides, seems rather odd that they would announce that 2009 is going to focus on tweaks and updating old content, then less than a week after drop hints about a new skill. To me, it feels like they want to take a break from the whole "1+ skill a year" thing that theyve been doing for very long, to focus on what theyve already got, which would be a very smart move in my opinion. Omali
Ever heard the saying "smooth sailing"? Yes but why use that expression? It just seems like a hint to me. Because it's an extremely common phrase. Runescape recipe for speculation: Take common phrase + add water + add water + add water + add water + add water = Voila, you've got a bomb. Exhibit a: Happy New Years OMG, Jagex said happy new year! The symbol for the new year is BABY NEW YEAR. That means BABIES are coming to Runescape. How do babies get here? SEX. Clearly Jagex is releasing a sex skill which you'll use to conceive babies. WHY DID THEY SAY HAPPY NEW YEAR? THEY COULD'VE SAID HAPPY 2009!!!!! THEY CHOSE "HAPPY NEW YEAR" omg conspiracylolohoskjl;ajoqiurwer.

Toad
I don't get what everyone's obsession with sailing is. Wouldn't that skill be incredibly lame? IMO it'd tie loose ends, lots of little improvements to other skills, general getting around scape, + existing skills arent all that impressive. Thing is you cant proove it, you cant disproove it. To me what jagex said is sketchy, and they woulda chose otherwords if they didnt want to drop a hint we all know the anagrams from elemental or future updates so why bind em together. Cheefoo
"There's something big on the horizon!" Yet... there was no horizon involved. Just stop getting all hyper because you heard the world sailing said by Jagex. Yeah, I'd like the skill too, and I think it's probably coming eventually. However, you don't need to quote Jagex whenever they say something even sailing related. Oh wait, neither did. lava titan +10 mining boost, pack yak + 30 BoB, Pyrefiend if you really want to? oh what, they did. i'm betting on 2 skills, not just one, also i can tell you it would tie up loose ends, new training spots, deep sea fishing (trawler maybe whaling?) perhaps islands with level requirements, eastern lands, MEP3?, plundering, dock to dock bartering, upgradeable crews like your butler in construction, team 1, 2 etc, more locations open, expansions to treasure trails maybe level 4 clues? I'm just saying this update has great potential if jagex ever did develop it, however... if you honestly want to be completely narrow minded, and think its gonna be going around on a rubber ducky, with a paddle all day long, then sure you do that, but please before you completely rip into something think it through, summon was extremely useful, i know jagex will deliver with the new skill. Wow Sir you are pro. That makes perfect sense. Personally. I'm going to invest in hammers. Not because they will be used with sailing, but they are just hammers. Nuf said? Anyway, I doubt they mean anything by it. People are reading way too much into this. muuuuuuuuuu
I think a new skill would be cool, maybe not necessarily sailing, but a new skill would certainly make my goal of ~2100 total w/o more combat much easier to accomplish :D i wish i had the mind of a merching genious like yourself i woulda never have through to invest in bronze meds, i hear you graduated from med school. jettrider
1) There is no evidence for sailing AT ALL in RuneScape, the highscore icon was confirmed fake, and the banner on a ship was simply a scene from an adventuring game. 2) FunOrb has a sailing/pirate based game in development called "Pirate Lords." So even if there is talk of a sailing update by Jagex, it'll just be a FunOrb game. 2496 Completionist
