Snipers_end
Oh great give immature runescapers to now stop saying nice skirt noob and now say nice skirt [wagon], real nice idea there. I always wanted the censor to be toned down but we don't need to say real curse words like [wagon] and damn. I can't believe I am saying this but TONE UP THE CENSOR (I have no problem with curse words, but when it is given to 10 year olds it starts these people overusing them like these idiots at what might as well be now known as [wagon] wars

ultimatballr
Back when I made my account it wasn't hard to get past the 13 year old thing and say I was 59 or whatever. I don't know if that has changed recently (since I haven't made an account since 2004) but I don't see it being hard for people under 13 to make accounts that can talk freely. Also just because you are 13 or 14.. doesn't mean you've peaked maturity.. the newly uncensored words will be overused. Even by adults with swearing problems, for some people it just comes naturally without giving it a second thought. Apparently, my signature was to big. However, this game is mainly geared towards an English-speaking demographic, so I'm not sure that's as valid as the original poster's point. Many people complained about their own censored rsn and how words like damn (the real meaning) were blocked. (Damn was used in the Temple of Ikov and then removed) I did the quest twice and it was different. Although some were 10 or 12 year olds complaining about not being able to swear at opponents like you said. Pureprayer, you're awesome.
fenrir321
I can see where Jagex is going with this update. People wanted it to be more mature and now we have it. It wouldn't surprise me if Jagex began a "campaign" to drastically change the demographic age group from 11-13 to 14-17. It is nice is be able to say "damn it, I died." It just gives something to say out of exclamation of pain (though which are actually overkill and which are not is a moot point.) For those who don't agree that curse words should be used, damn, crap, sucks, etc. in most common usage are exclamations of distaste. If we were as smart as the Japanese, we'd have only one word for this feeling/idea: "kuso". Unfortunately, we are not #-o . Therefore, we compensate by saying these words. Seriously, what matters: the meaning or the word itself? saying "blast it" holds the same water as saying "damn it" (I won't get into the other damn because the theology is an active agent in the preference and that isn't really relevant here at the moment.) Bottom line: all that should be censored are the purely derogatory remarks; the ones that should not be censored are the only partly derogatory remarks. As for the noobs, this is predictable, happens with every update. Wait for a few days/weeks and it will die down.

Orly_Owl
^Kinda hypocritical when you say 13 year olds are immature, when you're the one who is basically saying everyone who has an /anger problem is 13.
funnisam
it is nice to be able to put into text a possibly more toned down 'version' of your real thoughts, but it was always going to be subject to those immature enough to abuse it. also swearing isn't needed to communicate with other people. i think a simple '**** it' makes a clear point about the 'pain' you felt when something happened. In short, people who want to abuse the system are most likely those that wanted it removed, and thanks to them, the rest of us may well lose the 'short' freedom we had to say these words. cat666
Both [wagon] and damn are perfectly OK words. It's just the way it's said. For example: "You my friend are a total and utter tree hugging mongoose." Now is that bad? Yes it is. Does it use any bad words however? No. To make matters worse, innocent words then become "bad" words. For example, [wagon], damn, gay, [rooster], etc. etc. Jagex are quite right in uncensoring these words, it isn't the words which are cause offense, it's the people using them. Censor the user and not the words! Trust the Gene Genie!

Ten year olds are overexcited abou their new right, but eventually it will die down. I think it is pathetic how some people on this site can casually talk about 10 hour sessions of brutally whiping people to death for cash, and then complain about the immorality of swear words. I agree with cat666, if you abuse chat, you should be censored. As someone who has been censored, I can tell you that it definately makes the game difficult to play, and discourages later swearing. Foolmonkey42069
I believe they should incorporate a universal filter. One you can simply turn on or off at will. Make it the users choice. Kirudaymi
Yeah, hopefully all the excitement over being able to use mild "swear" words will die down soon.. There are people who will abuse this uncensorship, and although it's been said before; the problem is in the user of the words, not in the freedom to use them. mister_moocky
1) Some words, like [wagon] and gay, are not offensive if used properly; that is, their uncorrupted usage, like "stubborn as an [wagon]." Not common, but still a valid argument. 2) Other censored words were just ridiculous; my school, phone. 3) Assuming you are over 13, and you do not live in an isolated box, you probably hear these words regularly at school or other public places. 4) If you are honestly care by what some idiot over the internet thinks about you, you shouldn't be online, period. 5) Keeping point 4 in mind, these words simply aren't offensive. If someone called me an [wagon] faced crap bag, I would laugh at them. If someone is spewing that kind of text, they're obviously not worth listening to... 6) Ignore list, or if you care THAT much: 7) Turn public to friends. You have no argument. quit
