Been saving up for ages, and now I have finally reached my goal of 6k, but I have absolutely no clue what type of pc I should try. I always thought of buying one from alienware, but people have told me horror stories about their custom service :wall: . If any one knows a good system please do tell, and im looking for a decent gaming system that I can always upgrade =D

No point going with Alienware, I would definitely go with the build it yourself option. Even if you don't know how, you can always go into a pc store, dump all the stuff on their desk and ask them to do it for a fee.

With 6k, expect a beast of a machine.

I hope you aren't thinking of blowing 6k on a pc lol.

Spend like 1500$ (i7 will fit into that budget) and save the rest for a car or apartment rent... I personally wouldn't blow it all on a computer.

Hmm wasn't planning on wasting all my cash on it, but i thought about a good 2k-3k. And If i do get it custom built are their any thing i should look out for that would suite my price range?

6k is excessive for a PC. Personally I'd buy something for about 1.5K or a bit less, and maybe upgrade once DirectX11 cards come out later this year. Also, custom building would give you miles better value for money than Alienware.

I don't know if Newegg are able to put together a pc (as i've never shopped from it), but otherwise you can order parts and ask a local computer shop to put it together for you (costs like 50$), or if you buy parts from a local shop and ask them to put it together. Assuming you don't know/want to build yourself.

1500$ should be enough for a i7 computer (if you want that), and maybe buy a 9800gt for now and then buy a fully compatible DX11 card (something in the area of a 4870 or so) when they come out (summer/autumn), DX10 cards are able to play in DX11 - but with some features turned off.

Don't wanna push building yourself onto you, so either ask a store (as said) or buy a pre-made.

THat ^

Actually, just build one for about 1500 dollars then buy a laptop or something for more portable use for school/etc. If you buy office, A/V suite, and any other software, you could be looking at another 200 dollars anyways.

Don't you dare to buy a Mac or anything from Alienware!!!

Going to Futureshop and dumping all of your money isn't that smart either, but you can order the parts yourself from newegg.com and once they arrive to your house, go to the nearest computer shop, put it on the counter and pay up 40$.

Here are some reccomendations: * just type in the name at newegg.com*

Core i7 940 - Processor

Ati HD 4870 - Video Card

6 GB of DDR2 - RAM

A new core i7 motherboard.

800W - PSU

300GB 10,000 RPM - harddrive #1 for speed

1,000GB 72,000 RPM - harddrive #2 for storage

That'd be around 1200 dollars. Although to liven things up, you could get an all-surround sound for about extra 200.

Also get at least a 24 inch screen + find the coolest/quitest case you can :).

With the rest of the money buy a minifridge, stack it with drinks + chips, buy a lock for your door and a portable toilet with a bed = months of pure awesomenessnesses (ssp?).

One thing I noticed: the RAM should be triple Channel, so change that RAM for 6GB (3*2) of DDR3 or 12GB (6*2) of DDR3

I suggested DDR2 Ram, which is a much better option in today's world, as DDR3's overly high price is nowhere near the benefits over DDR2. And seriously 12GB DDR3? You won't need more then 3 unless you're planning on running 3 Crysis's on dual screens with highest options on.

Why not a Mac? They hold their value better then any PC and are great products. I can't say I've ever seen someone go from a Mac to a PC before because they were unhappy with what they got only the other way around. I'd give them a look, and unless your a hardcore gamer Mac's are a great way to go.

Macs are much more expensive for the same hardware, and have a much smaller selection of software. Also, customizing/tinkering with the system is limited.

Nehalem is made for DDR3.

Also, the memories needs to be 1.65v or lower or the cpu might take damage.

Not offended don't worry. I knew it'd be a long shot but I thought I'd suggest it anyways.

DO NOT SPEND $6,000 ON A COMPUTER. You can get a top of the line one with the highest graphics card, and best processor for around $1,500. I'd spend no more then $2,500 for a top of the line computer. Try any well known brand, but do not get an apple.

Please, tell me your reasoning for not buying an Apple. Guess what I'm using right now? An apple computer. Oh, and running Windows XP on a partition and Linux off of a memory stick, plus the original Mac OSX. Honestly, people that constantly say that the Mac's aren;t good computers--or at least say it in a way that shows they don't like Macs--is dumb. Seriously. Whats your reasoning behind it besides price?

Anyway...I myself like the Alienware Area-51 M17x, its the only Alienware laptop that I would spend lots on and would last me a long time. The rest o them to me are junk. The only reason I like the M17x is because I have 1.5 terrabytes of space and dual NVIDIA 9800 Graphics, plus an Intel Core Duo Extreme processor. But then again, this is a gaming laptop.

If its a desktop you are looking for, then I'd suggest listening to the people on this thread, or get a Mac.

Hoping to get a new Signature (with matching avatar) soon. :D

In the meantime...Steam username: )I'll rewrite it later (add me if you want)

Spend $2000 on a computer and either save the rest or buy a car. Seriously, you don't need a $6000 computer. A $2000 (at the most) computer will play every game at high settings out right now and probably in the future.

If you want the fastest computer for the price, don't get a MAC, period.
