A Nostalgic Look at Holidays Past

As an alternative to the already shrill whining about the new holiday event, why don't we reflect on what we've liked about holiday events. (By the way, I'm not disagreeing that this one is a bit lame. It seems clear to me Jagex has decided to spend less on development, which is fine with me. I thought the incessant stream of new content was rather like trying to drink from a fire hose.)

I've played for less than three years, so I've seen only nine holiday events. To my mind, it will be hard to top Halloween 2008:

1. It looked AWESOME. I felt like I was really trick or treating in some creepy medieval village.

2. The puzzles were fun.

3. The quest was a stroke of genius.

4. The emote was the best holiday emote to date.

5. The broom was the most useful holiday item to date. (I use it every time I go into the desert.)

6. The purple cat was a very nice added bonus.

7. That's not even mentioning the lame outfit. (Although I think the female cape was quite nice.)

Personally i think holiday events are just lame, there is no point to them.

I'd rather Jagex focused their efforts on something more worthwhile in the game as opposed to something that's going to vanish in a week or two.

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

I tink they hit on a winner when it came to the idea of a quest/event with f2p getting a week or two to do it, then making it a members quest.

Today was a step backward.

While the quest itself was a bit weak this time, I still enjoyed it. Besides, I got a giant carrot I can hit people with!

I agree with Punitive_D that last year's Halloween quest/event was the coolest one that I've done so far (although thawing out Santa's sleigh was pretty slick), but I think my favorite reward has to be the Santa outfit we got last Christmas.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

Scythe was best holiday weapon because it actually had + stats on it. They sucked, but better than -100 everything and -10 strength.

The first holiday event I was a part of was Christmas 2004. I remember running to Varrock when I heard that Santa was there, and being given a yoyo - no quest or anything. Some of the holiday quests now are too long, although this Easter one wasn't too bad.

It wasn't super awesome or anything, but it's better than nothing right? (You could say it's not, as they 'waste' time otherwise spent on good updates, but I'm ignoring that). Although, as said before, Hallowe'en and Christmas 2008 were better. They rocked :twss:!

Due to my epic stats, I have now started WGS (but I still hate spoilers).

Today's Easter event was OK in my opinion, but the carrot that you recieved as a reward is just an imitation on the chicken, but i don't mind this as i wasn't in the Runescape comunity when that item came out, But i think they should of spent alot more time on the idea's and layout of the event...

No, those were not the good ones. They are the ones that ruined the economy.

Those were the good events.

Ears and scythes didnt ruin anything.

Greedy people with crackers, phats, masks, santas, pumpkins, and easter eggs ruined it.

I was talking about the event not the items they gave us.

I liked it personally the suit thing was funny and I enjoyed doing it.

The carrot however is wanna be rubber chicken which was disappionting to be considering I own the chicken already.

I don't get why you guys complain just don't do it if you don't like the quest. Just get over it and move on to your other daily things.

Aside from the feeling that...I can'belive i'm going to say this...I have been totally wtf pwned by the amazingly craptastic reward (I thought is was a barrel with a punny little flail attached), I didn't mind the event. It dosen't stack up to the 2004 (?, easter ring year), or the last halloween event which was actualy pretty good (and by event I mean the quest because the event was not good), but it could have been worse than the christmas one.

Anyways, I had fun doing it, and thats what matters. I am starting to find the number of people asking for help both funny and sad. This is easier than the halloween event, but still makes you think a tiny little bit. People have no ability to help themselves any more.

can't think of any events better than the rsc holiday drops.

Was more fun running around picking up as many items as you could get is just plain out more fun than getting 1 item automatically after doing some time-wasting mini quest.

Christmas '05 was the best one :) (and the first one I did, missed Easter and H'ween '05) I still use the red and white hat and scarf often, they're so cool  Easter ring is FTW too :) And the carrot-which-doesn't-look-like-a-carrot is definitely one of my favorites \'
