It bothers me a lot whenever I hear the phrase "it's just pixels". It is true that while the pixels have no inherent value in-of themselves, they do represent real time invested. Being angry over losing many millions is perfectly reasonable, especially if you happen to be a lower level who has spent many, many, many hours accumulating wealth.

 

 

 

 

 

Think for a second or two before saying "Your time, because it is represented as Runescape gold, is worth nothing" to another.

i get annoyed by the phrase because pixels have no correlation to how much runescape money you have. if you are killed at godwars and lose full bandos, you have not lost pixels. they've just changed colors. you can't lose or gain any pixels unless you switch monitors.

And so is however much money you or your parents have in your bank account. It' just a few ones and zeros. You can't do anything with it. Except it represents something in real life, a medium of currency determined by the time and skill it takes to obtain. Just like RS.

Anyway, runescape stimulates your sense of sight, and to some extent you sense of hearing, if it stimulates 2 of your 5 senses i would say its more than just pixels.

 

 

 

Sight, Touch, Taste, Smell, and Hearing, everything in life stimulates a some of these senses, nothing else, so if runescape can do that, how is it any different from real life?

Truth is, the only quantifiable measure besides profit (end outcome) is time invested and enjoyment obtained - both factors influencing RS. Unless we're playing in a black hole, we can assume time is one dimensional and can be measured, even if it's only through our interpretation.

To say that RuneScape items are "just pixels" is something I have to agree with, but that's only how I value mine. If I really placed much worth on my RuneScape items, I'd probably make myself quit, because I don't view that as especially healthy.

Soley for the sake of setting the record straight, I am not an advocate of eugenics. I was referring to a thread hyjacked by compfreak, in which he advocated it.

I never advocated eugenics in my post. Have you forgotten what "eugenics" is? I was using the situation to imply that you cant tell the difference between reality and a book/game, based on that "old" thread.
