Captainkidd
Please, if you have no intent to read mine as well as others posts fully and make a thoughtful and productive post to the thread, please don't post, Thank you. It seems the Tip.it community as a whole has been turning towards the worse for some time now. Negative, hateful and spam comments can be found in almost every thread. Now don't get me wrong I know every forums has situations like this and no amount of moderation or regulation can prevent it fully, even though I think we got some of the best staff. It just seems like Tip.it is starting to look like *shudders* RSOF more each day. Though the quality of the community still blows others out of the water, I don't think it will be that way for long. I'm wondering if I'm the only one noticing this and why they think this is happening. It seems like only yesterday when everyone was so helpful, kind, and a positive influence on the community, though there are still people like this I don't think it's enough. I'm beginning to think it's because the size of the community; It's grown so much that the few "bad eggs" have created some sort of masses that can be noticed with ease. Does anyone agree with me? Do you believe it's possible to fix this and bring back the old Tip.it? ~ Captainkidd
swordwarior
I think people notice this change as they get older and more mature themselfs. There have always been people who flame and spam, but with tip.it growing in numbers it seems worse. I will say there seems to be a few people on these forums who constantly troll. *waits for them to find this post*
Makoto_the_Phoenix
I haven't noticed anything super bad (especially on the level of the RSOF), but if your intent is to restore Tip.it to a former glory, feeding the trolls is one way to get rid of 'em. (Perhaps I'm blind, but I haven't noticed any intentional trolling, except for maybe one thread.) Goblin512
I agree 100%. It seems like there are more and more people just posting in a thread to make others feel bad. For example say someone posts a thread about them getting their first dragon drop. Someone is going to make a post in there saying "I have gotten so many dragon drops." or along those lines. I should also use a 99 cooking or fletching thread. There will be posts about them being bad skills to get 99 in. I also see immaturity growing. What can you do about it? I hope I didn't miss the entire point of this thread.

Hopefully... :| It seems the Tip.it community as a whole has been turning towards the worse for some time now. Negative, hateful and spam comments can be found in almost every thread. You're going to encounter that in every forum whether you like it or not. It's up to you whether you decide just to ignore it or to actually let it get to you. From my personal recollection, the community has always been the same. Perhaps that's just me, but at (almost) 6 years here I don't see that drastic of a change. As the most popular RS fansite out there, it's going to receiving some negative traffic unfortunately. It just seems like Tip.it is starting to look like *shudders* RSOF more each day. Though the quality of the community still blows others out of the water, I don't think it will be that way for long. I'm wondering if I'm the only one noticing this and why they think this is happening. It looks like you're on your own here in terms of opinion. Just because a select few here want to create a bad experience doesn't mean that the majority here overall are a friendly bunch. There wasn't really a time when everyone was "helpful, kind and a positive influence on the community". That only applied to a select few back then, and a select few even now. The size of the community has always been tremendous, and once in a while you're going to get some troll-ish comments but you musn't let that deter you. As I said before, one does not represent the mass. So I'm going to have to disagree with you since the "old tip.it" to me is still the exact same even today. It's not that bad imo. I just dislike the people who feel they have to put their name under every post. I agree. ~infam0us911, Tip.it user 99 Hits, Attack, Strength, Defence, Mage, Summoning, Slayer, Ranged, 96/99 Prayer
jemathonical
Well, we can never get back the 'Old Tipit'. Because the reason it was awesome back then was because of the role models we had. All the oldbies were really which rubbed off on the next wave of Tipiters. But somewhere along the lines people just have stopped being nice or whatever and the new members that come along see and think that that's the way to be. And it gets worse from there. Another reason is that people mature. What you think is spam and a pointless comment may not be to someone else. I don't really know what's been happening in the Runescape part of Tipit because I haven't visited the General forums in ages now. But it seems the 'internet' is going through a troll/meme/etc phase. Bla bla bla in the end the respected members need to step up and show the youngin's how to act. ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it! Doing Calc and replying to threads leaves people with many half thoughts of (the integral) sec²xdx and an actual response. Anyway, I do agree with what you've said. There was only a handful of people that were friendly back then, and there's only a handful of people that are right now. That hasn't changed too much. Not to mention, when people are posting, we have to weigh the first statement (such as arguments against Slayer or Drops or what have you), and not flame people who just don't understand. Flaming accomplishes nothing, of course. Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago. Forerunner
I know what you mean, & I agree (to an extent). I haven't been part of the TIF for long, & I usually take really long breaks from it. Perhaps it's just the internet rubbing of on the TIF, where everyone is constantly at each others throats (I call it the Counter Strike Effect). Some people like to belittle others to make themselves feel intelligent, or big. I'll be a monkeys uncle if somebody doesn't quote this & states how all my opinions are worthless. Maybe it's just a temporary stage, & it will all go away someday, then I wont have to carefully word every post so the trolls don't have an excuse to flame me. SanNo1
It has certainly gotten worse, but the mods are doing a great job, and you have to give them credit that this forums is still far above the level of the RSOF  There are three sides to every story: There's one side, there's the other, and there's the truth. la la la
4chan has definitely had an influence. The only time you will see me actually flame (not disagree with, that's different) someone on the forums is when they purposefully misspell words (such as "liek," "gud," "so i herd..."). Dire_Wolf
I made a thread in help and advice and got trolled by many. Anyhow, as a community or anything grows bigger the chances of betray/grief/greedness and all bad things a human can have increase. In other words...immature people follow the flow. SnWRifleman
Omfg, just stfu your n33b!!!!!11one1!!!~. Jk lol. I think the reason why people do this is because they are immature and think it's funny. I remember I used to do this on Yahoo Answers. I would just state the obvious when someone asks a question. I later remembered those times and I was like, "Why the F*ck did I think that was funny?" Most people are going to do that themselves. They will think about their troll days and just wonder why they did such foolish things. Rainy_Day
I fail to see the similiarity between Tip.it and RSOF. I don't personally see much of a problem, we're always going to have 'bad eggs', they inhabit every active forum. If you feel it's so bad that you see bad comments "in almost every thread", then help the staff and report it, so that we may take the appropriate action. & never feed the trolls. :shame: :P ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)RIP Michaelangelopolous

So maybe, it's time for us to become those role models, if you really want to change something. Complaining in these kind of threads has never had any impact. compfreak847
It's not as much as a problem as you make it to be. In my opinion, it's due to the loss of the mature regualrs that used to keep discussions on topic and accurate. People like Muggi, Salim, Kent, Bubsa, and far more of the oldies have left for good. There's only a few people I can think of off the top of my head that I remember from the 'old times', Makoto (doesn't post much) and Zirro (More off topic then rs-related posts), Me, and some of the mods are about all I can think of right now. Returned3
Like compfreak847 said, most of the "Legends of TIF" have stepped down and made way for the newer generation to shine. It's like every once in awhile we have this batch of "Main Eventers" who would be carrying TIF on their shoulders and teaching the newer members a thing or two so that they can "Pass the torch" when the time comes for them to step down. I'm not really in any position to comment on this as I'm still one of the newer batched guys but I feel that this generation's bunch of "Main Eventers" still require more experience in representing TIF. Pardon the wrestling references, it was the only way I could explain it. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down!
