WTF is up with FARMING? Watermelons..... then what?

Why in the heck do allotments end at level 47 with watermelons. Jagex needs to update the system and include allotments up to the 80's. Carrots, zuchinni, aaaaanything. It is like the person that was in charge of the farming update ran out of time and they decided not to update anything after that. I am so sick of watermelons and it is soooo boring. Even with trees and herbs it is not enough. C'mon already and challenge us Jagex!!! What do you all think?

I've always felt that Farming was a bit too easy, especially with Trees. But hey, that's what people use after they max out allotments - Palm and Yew trees. Adding more stuff to an allotment doesn't seem to make sense, since there's scarcely any use for the allotments we have now.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

I doubt planting carrots would be any more exciting than planting watermelons. :D

"the person that was in charge of the farming update" Happened to be a team of developers, & I think they did a lot more than a half-[wagon] job.

Everything in Farming is done the same way. Plant it & wait. The only variety in content you would get if they were to add more things to grow would be experience. Assuming that's what you want; I'm not too concerned with Farming being the way it is now.

What challenge were you looking for precisely? I don't see how planting the highest level tree would be more challenging than planting cabbages.

In response to the title.. Nothing is up with Farming. It is one of the 24 trainable skills, & it was released sometime during 2005. Closest thing to 'up', I'd say. :P

Edit: Btw, Welcome to the TIF.

I think the issue is that once you pass the levels you need for watermelons, you really never have any need to use an allotment again. I see how this could be a pain when you have an all but useless farming patch consistently sitting empty, that could otherwise be included into your farming rounds. It makes more sense to have higher level allotments, just so the patches they grow in see a little use.

Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-

I agree. Carrots improve eyesight so they should give you an Attack boost too.

That's a myth, it doesn't help your eye sight at all.

Well, technically they do, since they help you adjust to differences in light faster (One of the Vitamins it has, that is).

BURN!

Personally, I'd quite like to see more plants you can grow on allotments - you might say it's just another "Plant and wait" - but if so, why don't you train on level 3 goblins all the way to 99 attack? More pretty colours is great. :)

Yes Farming is very easy if you have the money. However, I disagree with you about adding more stuff doesn't make sense. Of course it does. They need to make new uses for Farming as well.

Yes they do actually.

A deficiency in Retinol or more widely known as Vitamin A causes night blindness.

Of course it doesn't literally make your eyes better (if you are wearing glasses), if that is what you mean.

It would be quite nice to have some higher level allotments, but at the same time you have to constantly be progressing in a skill and focusing on different areas. Just like with hunter you only want to do butterflies for a little bit, you don't want to catch them all the way to 99 so you move on to a different area and catch something that gives more experience. There are also limited flowers you can plant, bushes are near useless, hops aren't good for anything as they stop at level 28, and many of the special patches are never used. I find with the balance between the high level specials, the tree patches, the fruit tree patches and all the herbs you can keep yourself busy enough with farming. Personally I just do herbs, calquats and spirit trees currently as this is extremely cheap, makes money, and gives little bit of xp a day on my way to 99.

I think it would be better to add something higher level on allotments that had usefulness, rather than just more xp.

For example, Watermelons are using for either super compost or Summer Pies.

Something in my eyes that would be an improvement would be a higher level allotment item, that can be used with the cooking skill to make a new food which heals 40 hp in 4 bites (10 HP each).

Or food that slightly raises one of your other levels, as mentioned with the attack level and carrots.

Something like that not only benefits one skill, but several, without upsetting the current food balance system. I think something like that would be much more beneficial to the skill than simply something that gives more XP at a higher level.

Farming isn't an easy skill. It takes over 6 months to get 99 from a decent level and it'll cost over 100m. I think people who want high farming should get a cheaper alternative, and I think allotments are the solution.

Agreed. I think they should put some new allotments in til the 90s. Perhaps some of the higher leveled foods may heal as much as monkfish or swordfish.

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

I agree, there should be other allotment crops, maybe some additions to herblore with it? :ohnoes:

I think farming is fine as it is (fine meaning nothing is wrong with it but there's room for improvement), but to make it a good skill they'd need to add something a little more dynamic than just better crops. I want innovation!

We don't rant on tif, we simply suggest things... angrily. ::'

And 3_Hit_U, carrots contain retinol and do help your eyesight. ;)

I think that's a great idea! I'd definitely grow higher level allotments. :D If they can be used for super compost, or some herb potion, I'd be even more there! (If they're higher than watermelons they better be usable for super compost. :P) I think someone should suggest this on the RSOF, not because farming NEEDS to be updated and we NEED more allotment things, because we don't, but because it would just be more fun and a nice way to level farming at a slightly cheaper cost. :D
