Mysteries of the Mahjarrat [WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS]

Recommended Posts

The newest quest that was released by Runescape today was called The Tales of the Muspah. Despite the low level requirements, it actually deal with something very interesting. I recommend all high levels not to frown on the requirements and do this quest. It is completely worth your while.

[hide=spoilers]The quest reveals a new Mahjarrat: Jhallan. He reveals some interesting facts to add to the list of trivia dealing with the Mahjarrat.

We learn from him/this quest:

-Mahjarrats are weakend greatly by the power to transform

-Mahjarrat can not only transform into animals (Akthanakos) but can transform into Mythical creatures that aren't even suppose to exist.

-The statue of the Muspah found in the desert closely resembles the statues found in Stealing Creation.

-Ali the Wise tells us after the quest that this place up north may be the place that you finally help Jhallan to hibernate.

-The Muspah is a creature from Mahjarrat myths

-The Mahjarrats fight and sacrifice the loser as part of a rejuvenation ritual that gives power back to the surviving Mahjarats (Paw_Claw)

-A quick chat option has been added today to the "Can you help me with quest: Mysteries of the Mahjarrat. (Possible original title of the quest Tales of the Muspah)

-The Wilderness was a paradise at one point (life_mage12)[/hide]

What does this all mean? I will continue to update this thread with more facts I find about the Mahjarrat as our quest to stop Lucien (and get that steroid boost from the Stone of Jas) continues >=).

Post Bag Hints:

[hide=Post Bag 38]

Dear Azzanadra,

Are there any more of the Mahjarrat sealed away? We know that you and Akthanakos were sealed and Sliske is hiding in the 'shadows', but are there more than the nine of you? My friend said that there's one called Zeox, sealed near Falador, but is he bluffing? I am told that he is near some rocks with weird-looking symbols on them.

Levitadeus

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Impertinent mortal,

'Zeox' is not a name used by my kin, at least not in our own tongue. I suppose it could be that one of us had taken a title more amenable to the weaklings who believe they rule this world, but I cannot imagine that such a name would find favour anywhere near the deluded city of the White Knights.

To answer your more sensible question, I do not know how many of us remain upon this world. Since my release, I have resumed connections with the closest of my allies, and sent my agents to observe my enemies - but we Mahjarrat are accustomed to the shadows, and the mortal eyes I must use to search for my kin are not. I have discovered that many of us have entered the death-sleep, and that Mizzarch, Lamistard and Ralvash were the most recent to face the void in the Ritual.

It is possible that some of the weaker of my tribe survive in hiding - Jhallan was always so inclined, it is the way of the cowardly and weak-willed. Kharshai may yet live, I can sense no trace of his death upon this world, but nor can I sense his pulse; perhaps his neutrality has earnt him a prison such as mine was.

Be aware, mortal, there could be as many as a hundred of us still upon this world, with dozens more returned from other realms, but equally there could be as few as ten, each as mighty as one of your armies.

Finally, be sure of one thing: Sliske does not hide. An ally he may be, but I did not become master of my Lord's legions without being sure of the powers wielded by those close to me. Sliske is one whose actions can be seen each and every day in the smallest of this world's details.

For the honour of my Lord,

Azzanadra

[hide=post bag 36 and 39]

From Post Bag 36

Ralvash is gone; Muspah, famous, sleeps with the fishies, if fishies frozen could be. That's where the shadows are shadowed, and even the delvers don't dare. Bizarre: one day it's almost time for a shadow to shift - and a shadow to open its unblinking, empty eye.

From Post Bag 39

"Wake the muspah. Don't wake the muspah!" - and that's just the first of them! Syzygy nearing: Ritual too. Watch those scopes and learn what you can before it occurs. Ralvash was last, who is next? Me? You? No, we're not one of them

[/hide]

So of those who we have not met / have yet to meet we know that:

- Ralvash was the last to be sacrificed for the ritual and before him were Mizzarch and Lamistard.

- Kharshai may still be alive or imprisoned somewhere

- Sliske is still active

[hide=Juna's Inputs]-Zanik is now an enemy to all gods.

-The player is still under at least the favor of Guthix for further use.

-After telling story: Akthanakos and Enakhra's continued battle to the north, Juna warns that two powerful beings battling will be extremely dangerous

-After telling story: Learning Ancients, Juna warns of origins of the spells

-After telling story: Digsite, Juna reveals that Zaros was near forgotten even before she began guarding the tears.

-After telling story: Defender of Varrock, no response.

-After telling story: Underground Pass, no response.

-After telling story: Agrith-Naar? we learn he was banned by Guthix but found a way around the ban[/hide]

[hide=Known Mahjarrats]-Zamorak - Gained power to godhood with the aid of the Staff of Armadyl and the Stone of Jas.

-Lucien - Primary antagonist in the While Guthix Sleeps story line. Currently holds the Staff of Armadyl and the Stone of Jas.

-Akthanakos - Rescued during Enakhra's Lement. Close relation with camels. One of the last Mahjarrat to still follow Zaros.

-Enakhra - Rival to Akthanakos. Rescued during Enakhra's Lement. Followed Zamorak Post-Zaros.

-Azzanadra - Released during Desert Treasure. Teaches players the ability to cast Ancient Magicks. One of the last followers of Zaros and believed to be his greatest champion.

-Hazeel - Resurected in Hazeel's Cult. Not much known.

-General Khazard - Killed in the quest Fight Arena. Later on involved in the Shadow Sword mini quest.

-Zemouregal - First appearance in RS Tales and Lores. Controls the undead Arrav and intend to destroy Varrock. First seen in game in Defender of Varrock.

-Jhallan - Helped in the quest Tales of the Muspah. Extremely weakened and is in hibernation to rejuvenate.

-Silske - Only seen in RS Tales and Lores. Highly speculated to control the undead barrows brothers.[/hide]

[hide=Missing my Mummy]

Well, with the release of the Missing my Mummy,we discovered a few interesting facts about the Mahjarrat.

You might want to add these things to the original post...

The Mahjarrat were at some point called as the Stern Judges. The origin of this name is still unknown. They were also called the faceless ones, because of their ability to shapeshift and having many forms. She told that Itcharin called the Mahjarrat to fight against Zaros for him.

Also, the Pharaoh Queen talked something about a ritual that performed to make her ready for afterlife (similar to the ancient ritual performed for the ancient Egyptian Kings). She also mentioned that the ritual can go wrong, making the person somehow "twisted".She talked something about great horrors and pain and the ritual reversing. She also mentioned that the Mahjarrat were masters of this art.

It is also suspected that Enakhra used this method to "Akthanakos",making him a boneguard.

I do all quests. I visited Ali the wise after the quest and told him everything it would let me about the mahjarrat (I have a quest cape). I mentioned every quest I have done besides WGS and then the letter I got before WGS.

As for the new quick chat option, I checked and there is no option for Tales of the Muspah so i'm judging the are one in the same. I'm visiting the historian now.

there's also the info stating the wilderness was once a paradise. Is it possible Zaros and the mahjarrat weren't evil but instead a race like the greeks under Alexander who sought to conquer all and control it for the good of the people, as well as their own desire for power.

Many great leaders have been though tyrants in their time for their desire to conquer. The Romans were widely detested, even though they brought peace, order, and innovation to a huge chunk of the world.

Could be true. Ali the Wise did tell us that perhaps not all Mahjarrat is evil.

I already visited the historian, he just wants the location of the statue and gives a 200xp lamp. Really frustrating he STILL can't find the yeti.

Could it be because you kill it in glorious memories?

Anyway this quest is not the only one that has stated that the wild was a paradise before it became the wild. The knowledge base itself even says it wasn't always the wild.

I was just thinking when speaking to Ali the wise, general Khazard was pretty much confirmed as being a Mahjarrat. It also reminded me he was telling his spies so they would go north (to the ritual site) and the planets are close to aligning. Then to fear the others because they are cunning (not an exact quote). The others probably mean the other mahjarrat, The north has been confirmed as the ritual site. Maybe the one time the ritual works is when the planets align? That isn't that often.

It could very well tie in with WGS. Remember, the first quest that introduced you to Lucien was a pathetically easy quest. Now this is a Mahjarrat that possibly is the first to arrive on the "place to the north". If that is the case, he will have a significant advantage.

I think the new quest wil tie in with WGS.Maybe your new mahjarrat friend could help defeat lucien?

If not it opens a nice quest line and i enjoyed the quest.

Before I did the quest I thought we needed to battle an army of MUSPAH'S in a sequel.

If you go back and talk to Ali after the quest you can tell him everything you've learned from previous quests about the Mahjarret. I only just figured out today that they are actually a SPECIES. :XD: Anyways, there's a lot to learn if you don't really remember much about the Mahjarret. I hope they continue these quests and we learn more about the Mahjarret; they seem like an interesting species. :D

You're wrong. You can't tell him the events of WGS. Now that I think of it TCC might be a very important quest to mention as well.

Yeah well I happen to absolutely suck at remembering quest story lines. :XD: I can hardly remember what happened in WGS and I did it just pretty recently. Maybe I'll have to see if I can find somewhere that posts all the story lines of quests. :XD:

If you've done the Shadow Sword miniquest your character tells Ali that (s)he believes General Khazard to be a Mahjarrat. That surprised me. My character never mentioned the letter before WGS, do you still have to have it to get that option?

I didn't. As for your character thinking General Khazard is a mahjarrat then why is he moving to the ritual site and have the appearance of one.

I remember a friend of mine talking about the most recent (?) chaos elemental letter, and that one of the words mentioned in there had to do with the planets aligning :ohnoes:

I told Ali that Lucien has the Staff of Armadyl and the Stone of Jas. He is suspicious of what Lucien wants to accomplish.

You did? It only let me say that he has acquired the staff of armadyl. I have a quest cape and I payed close attention to everything I told Ali. I can't think of anything else interesting to tell him now.

No, he must be searching for the yetis that were recently found in "Glorious Memories". (He mentions that he can't track worth a damn, and there's yeti tracks leading right up to the lair, which is just moments away from where he's searching.)

It's just as well that he didn't find them, since between them and the Gnoeals, he'd either be dead, or tall, white, and smelly right now.

Well to add to the information on the Mahjarrat

"Wake the muspah. Don't wake the muspah!" - and that's just the first of them! Syzygy nearing: Ritual too. Watch those scopes and learn what you can before it occurs. Ralvash was last, who is next? Me? You? No, we're not one of them

So of those who we have not met / have yet to meet we know that:

- Ralvash was the last to be sacrificed for the ritual and before him were Mizzarch and Lamistard.

- Kharshai may still be alive or imprisoned somewhere

- Sliske is still active

it sounds like sliske is a well known npc, MOM maybe? anyway, has anyone gone to try to talk to the one mahjarrat who we know where is after this quest?(general khazard) I don't think he leaves after finishing the shadow sword miniquest does he?

He doesn't, but he kind of wants to kill you.
