Dstone gems - why are they rising?

Recommended Posts

I have just recently regained members, and went to sell a few things in my bank to raise more cash to feed my pkin fetish

Anyhoo - went ot GE, grabbed out a heap of gems I had including about 20 dstone ones, and voila 70k each for uncut dstones! Now I am not complaining at all with the increased geepee's but they used to be 40k max, so what happened?

Glories are still 40k, and dstone bolts/tips haven't gone up that much (have they?).

Diamonds are also well up on previos costs - whats with the gem trade these days? Should I be gem hunting?

There is also the exp you get for making the bolts, that gets *subtracted* from the value when you make them.

To be honest, at this moment, 'Smokin Mils' Clan Chat is trying to Merchant Uncut Dragonstones, although, they will fail.

How will they fail? They've been doing this since they were 40k each. People who invested have pretty much doubled their investment. Not a fail if you ask me.... (I didn't invest, I'm just saying it isn't really a fail...although price manipulation is fail. #-o )

99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving.

Jagex'd out of my untrimmed hp cape on 6/14/2011.

I think merchanting clans in general are fail. Only because the creators are just trying to sell whatever they have at highest price, which is fine. If you think about it, the creators dump their Merchant item, so they leave the others in the dump, without being able to sell it. It's happened to me, I hate Merchanting clans, but you can prevent that from happening. You can dump early, even though they don't want you too.

Merch clans for sure. They have been steadily rising, so the recent pvp effect that is on other items is not affecting dstones.

Personally, if dstones are 70k, they are like double in price, so I'd just wait out a couple more days and they should probably crash. If you found the merch clan manipulating them, then you could probably estimate when they will crash more accurately.

As others said, the main cause is merchanting (price manipulating) clanchats which abuse the way to GE works in order to gain a profit. Albiet offtopic I want to explain how they work (no idea why I want to though =/), they usually work like this:

Clan creator stocks up on a particular item that's been low for a while.

Clan creator tells the clan to buy it out, to do this you must buy at max, creating a artificial demand on the Grand exchange because no one actually wants it, it's just taken up by the clan.

The Clan creator always dumps early, ALWAYS. He may not sell it all in one go, but he will slowly sell his items to his clanmates through the ge, creating a tidy profit for himself.

The ones that starts dumping first earn a tidy profit, whilst the others watch the artificial demand become a artificial supply, the items plummeting lower than originally, losing millions in the process.

It's basically a redistribution of wealth, the early dumpers and the clan creator will make the cash, the others will lose it.

That is correct. Clan Merchanting is against the rules (or should be against the rules) because they do nothing but buy a bunch of 1 item and get other people too and then bam. I don't think this should be legal.

Although i've never been part of a price manipulation group, i must agree, i think it should be a rule that items cannot manipulated for quick profit.

I don't like merch clans either, but it makes for an interesting way to make money(somewhat long term)...

If you have a lot of cash, you can just stock up on random things you think will be manipulated(or manipulated in the past)...

If you notice, these items show somewhat of a sin wave graph. Meaning that if you can manage to get quite a few when the graph is on the low, and just make sure you check it everyday as prices go up, you can turn a pretty easy profit.

While they are on the rise, the items are being bought by these clan members for max price...all you have to do is sell them at max price at a point where you will make the money you want to earn. You click sell, you get paid, and you forget about that item...it will eventually crash when the leaders dump. The key is to not get greedy, your already a step of the game if you bought the item in between the dump and the buyout.

I would keep that in mind for those of you who have an extra 50m to blow. Don't hate the merch clans, just benefit from their loopholes. (btw, the merch clans don't do that many bad things to the economy...they may get a price to rise for a day, but the price levels out...as long as you don't need that item on that specific day, you should be able to just chill a week until the plummet, where you will end up getting that item for cheaper.

I don't think they are going to go down too easy; "Smokin Mils" is aiming for 205k for each to dump; I think the creator is going to dump early to screw everyone over.

I don't think they are going to go down too easy; "Smokin Mils" is aiming for 205k for each to dump; I think the creator is going to dump early to screw everyone over.

They always make a "aim price"..The person who makes the most money is the person who spends the most...As long as they play it right, which isn't all that hard.

It gets into two separate catagories...the very rich, and the poor. The poor in this case are spending about 10m on it, and these are the people who get screwed. The rich are spending billions on it.

It all starts with a group of billionaires deciding to invest a large portion of their assets into 1 item. Because of this...the market gets bought out and starts to rise(supply, demand). They start to tell these merch clans about it, and thats where the poor come in. They see the rise, and think as long as they dump before everyone else they'll be alright. About this time, some of the rich quit buying and start selling(making pure profit). Prices continue to rise, and the poor think that have waited long enough and dump...When the poor dump, as long as enough rich are buying...the prices will keep going up...more poor see that they're not going down, and buy in. This continues for a while, and pretty much what we get is gems going around in a circle, switching hands. Then all of a sudden the rich get together and say "hey, ok, this has gone on long enough....quit buying, start selling"....as long as their is enough money in the poor at this point to cover the cost of the rich, the rich come out with a big profit, and the poor end up with a large amount of gems. Now no one is buying gems, because the rich bailed out, and the poor is full of gems, not cash. People start to sell, with very little activity, and they sell at min price, still hoping to make a profit. Because of the small demand, these items begin to crash, and continue to do this...

This happens viciously with items, and your not at a complete loss if you hold on to the item instead of just trying to get rid of them. At some point, the rich will start the cycle over again, and you can partake to break about even.

I know thats probably confusing, and I could show it well with a visual presentation, but I just don't have time to do that now. I suggest that if you want to try and make money this way, you read up on ecominics...because it's just a modified basic supply and demand.

The creator is just trying to get people to buy as many as they can to manipulate the price of them. So the creator can dump early and leave everyone else in the dump. Dragonstones are never going to raise up to 205k, unless everyone on runescape buys every single one of them, then maybe. That's how it works. :o
