Here we go again. SwiftKit illegal to use

Amen.

Without SS, I simply quit, simple.

Why?

I cannot live without that handy IRC, no way I will use 4-6 pages to play RS as I want it.

RS is rather boring for me lately, friends on IRC are one of the main reasons I still play.

Our policy is that no players will get into trouble for using SwiftKit.

However, it is not owned or supported by Jagex and we won't endorse it, or allow players to advertise it / discuss it on our forums - due to the risk of keyloggers.

So, although using SwiftKit is not against the rules, we recommend that players dont use it - as we cannot vouch for its safety.

Thanks,

Steve

King Runite,

I would assume that you are talking about Swift Kit yes?

Any piece of 3rd Party Software that interacts with RuneScape must follow a strict set of guidelines. Any 3rd party software that doesn't fit these guidelines is not allowed.

Swiftkit, does follow these guidelines. So it is not against the rules to use.

HOWEVER, we strongly urge players to consider the security of their accounts as it would be very easy for somebody to install a keylogger into such software and release it as an "update" for people to download.

It is still at player's own risk if they choose to use 3rd party software.

As for being censored, when you enter the RuneScape Forums and RuneScape game you agree that we can remove any content we deem inappropriate.

Also, J-Mod's post do represent Jagex and whilst we may not always be 100% correct, generally what we say is the "bottom line".

Cheers,

In addition, you will be issued in-game blackmarks for serious forum offences. These can be appealed as normal.

There is no need to appeal locked threads or temporary mutes as these do not affect your account in any way.

Everyone can now stop whining.

Is it just me or people continually contradict themselves here?

Scenario A: Swiftkit gives benefits that normal RS Client, or normal browsers, do not. If this scenario is true, SK is most certainly third party, and therefore a clear violation of the rules.

Scenario B: Swiftkit does NOT give extra advantages over what the normal RS Client or normal browsers provide. If this scenario is true, there should be no complaints whatsoever about SK being banned... because you're not gaining anything from using it.

Taking screenshots better, easier access to calculators, etc, those are all advantages. If it's something that would drive you to choose SK over the normal rs client, it's an advantage.

Not saying I agree / disagree with Jagex's decisions, but the whole "It doesn't give an advantage!" followed immediately by "I quit if I don't get to use SS or SK or whatever" just seems really absurd.

I don't see how being able to take screenshots "better" or access to calculators gives you an advantage in-game, which is what is being argued here.

You must not use other software to gain an unfair advantage in our games.

In our games generally includes in playing the game too. Calculators or easier screenshot systems, while they don't directly give you an in-game advantage, make it easier to play runescape. Think of an autotalker. It doesn't provide you a direct in-game advantage, and it doesn't even really interact directly with the game, in most cases. Yet they're still banned, because ultimately, it's still an advantage over players who do not use the same software.

The point is moot, though, seeing as Jagex HAS specified guidelines, and SK follows those guidelines.

Autotalkers DIRECTLY interact with the applet, and enter in data to it.

Your argument is utterly stupid. Having better RAM or a graphic card gives an advantage too, so they better ban certain people who have better specs. Oh wait, they better get rid of the supported fansites program because the people who view thier calculators and guides have an advantage!

Don't forget those users who use Chrome instead of Internet Explorer, as we all know it's been proven that Chrome can tabulate and display elements faster.

SK has always been legal to use, I just wish Jagex would put an "okay" list of clients to use that don't break the rules but may keylog you as they don't code it themselves, SK would obviously be in this list along with a lot of others.

I used to use "Blaze" or something, that acted as a world switcher, had an IRC, had highscore lookups, calculators, and other things. Then, a few weeks after I started using it, Jagex announced the ban of third party software. They vaguely said something about certain programs not being against the rules, and I thought they were similar to Blaze, but to be safe, I stopped using it.

Ever since fullscreen, I don't use any Runescape clients, so I don't mind if they aren't allowed. It's pretty simple to have the highscores, calculators, guides, and IRC in other windows, so I don't get what's so great about those clients.

I understand how they could be a potential security risk, so I agree with Jagex that they shouldn't be allowed. However unclear the "security risk" is, it's just as bad if it's a risk to the user, or Jagex itself.

It's not an "advantage" it's a "convenience." There is a difference, and you don't seem to understand what that is.

It's doesn't make anything in the game easier for you, it simply makes it easier for you to find information you may need concerning the game, and allows you to find that information in one client rather than opening several programs/windows and straining your cpu.

I thought they resolved this issue in 2007? Strider made it legal (removed the world switcher) and Jagex then stated it's perfectly legal to use but that they do NOT recommend to use any third party software such as SK.

And now they're making it against the rules because they do not recommend it? Jagex treats us like babies  Thinking we can't understand recommendations well enough.

And it's even more ridiculous because of the fact that they talked to Strider in a friendly manner back in 2007 to resolve the issue, and now all of a sudden they just throw that in the trash.

EDIT: Oh and to people saying that it is against the rules because it gives a convenience, if that were so then TipIt would be against the rules as well. TipIt is VERY convenient.

EDIT2: And also, this makes the TipIt microhelper illegal as well :( Since it's pretty much the same thing as SwiftKit.

[insert birds flying in a circle here]

Yes, that sig was annoying.

Look

Stop [bleep]ing saying legal and illegal.

It's stupid, and you all sound like idiots saying it. Nothing about runescape can be illegal(except maybe real world trading) because there are no LAWS involved.

Something can be against the rules, that doesn't make it illegal. You're not going to jail for breaking runescape rules. so stop calling it illegal. It's just pissing me off.

We all know what we mean by calling it illegal, so I don't think it really matters. :shame:

I don't care. It gets on my damn nerves. i have no idea why, but I keep wanting to kick someone in the head every time i read it.

Who cares? If you need someones stats or a price check use an IRC bot. Need notepad? Open notepad. Need a calc? Open one, or use an IRC bot.

Its not like its the end of the world. :S

pfft, not like this is going to stop anyone, and theyve said SK is legal, (but not actually endorsed by jagex) in the past. why change their mind now?

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

Personally I dislike SwiftKit users, seeing as the majority of them are pures.

This may not apply to everyone, but I've noticed almost all SwiftKit users are a bunch of self-centered, arrogant sons of [bleep]es.

Sorry, but i have to dismiss this, i know maybe one pure? and i know tons of people who use SK, i've never heard this thing of pures using SK before, not sure were this is coming from.

Also, to people saying, just open up other windows etc, thats the whole point, you don't have to open things up, its there, one click away, thats the point of convenience.
