District-9 Symbolism?

So I recently saw a short trailer for District-9, and decided to look to Wikepedia on what it's about. When I looked at marketing, it said that it advertises partially in the form of signs on bustops and bus seats saying:

"Seats for humans only." and "Human bustop only."

Now it's not out yet and chances are I'm completely wrong, but do you think that there is some kind of segregation subtext to the movie? Because from what I've seen so far this is not a typical Humans vs. Aliens flick.

"District 9 is based on Alive in Joburg, a short film directed by Neill Blomkamp, Sharlto Copley, Simon Hansen and Shanon Worley. Copley also portrayed one of the interviewed policemen. The short film is about aliens landing in South Africa and becoming confined to a specific area and forced to work. In the movie these aliens are called "Non-Humans" and are overseen by Multi-National United (MNU), a company which is utilizing alien technology."

Subtext? Children's literature is more subtle.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

Sounds about as subtle as a brick to the face.

Uh...that's not really what symbolism is....

Anyway, from what I heard it isn't so much about aliens as it is fighting over their technology or something? I don't know, I gotta go get ready for work, will double check when I get back (if I remember)

From a trailer I've seen of it in a movie theatre, an laien ship lands somewhere on Earth and gets captured, along with the insectoid aliens. The aliens want to get home, but because the humans control their ship, they can't do that. Then there's a none too subtle implication of a revolt among the aliens stuck on Earth.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

If it is, I'll be major disappointed man. The trailer looks really cool. And it looks like there's a real lack of screaming teenagers with running noses.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

From the trailer I watch I got the impression that there is obviously something happening behind the scenes in district-9. Something that the aliens are doing. Clearly there is also a major issue of segregation in this film. Calling it a subtext would be incorrect. Now if you are really trying to ask if the segregation in this film is related to current or past issues, like slavery or something, I do not know.

Gah fail :wall:

When I made this thread all I had to go on was posters on bus seats. Now that proper commercials are coming on thats what the movie is ABOUT.

Thread can die nao.

I saw the trailer for this movie was all the way back in February and it has been available since then. You can tell viral advertising works though because most people have found out about it in the past few weeks when sites like digg started to have news about it.

Coming out August 14th in Australia, not sure if it's released already in other countries. It looks like my kind of movie (been a Sci-Fi nut I'll be killing to see this movie the day of release :D). The viral marketing campaign is really interesting, especially the websites and stuff they have set up. The alien's blog is really cool as well, has the subitles for what the alien is saying. Ovious the story is based around an alien revolt on earth. Why are humans so stupid? If you're going to lock them up, put them under 200metres of concrete :wall: :wall: :wall:
