I was mulling this over and the more and more I think about it the more it seems the better option.

 

Replace the RTS (real time strategy) with a TBS (turn based strategy).

 

The select single unit is fail for a RTS, but with a TBS its ideal as your never allowed to control more then one at a time anyway.

 

This can also emphasize the different styles.

 

Mages and rangers could do damage from a few squares away, but both being weaker then they are now to melee.

 

 

 

But that kinda of kills the whole "OMFG they made a RTS within RuneScape?!?!?".

 

 

 

Personally I was hoping for something more like a chess game, but then again isn't that what armies of [insert the world of RS] is about?

 

 

 

I don't get why people think MA is so different from regular combat. Regular combat is just as real-time-strategy as MA is. Only difference is you have to keep an eye on all 10 squads at once and it's harder to make sure every one of them is doing what you want it to do.

 

 

 

And NO on the turn based. It would be the same as AoG and we don't need that. I think it's fine the way it is. Only thing that really needs fixed is the waiting room, really.

I don't get why people think MA is so different from regular combat. Regular combat is just as real-time-strategy as MA is.

 

No, no it isn't

 

Real combat you range and mage from a distance, you can run in do damage and be out of range of the counter, you can eat, you can heal, freeze and truly use the triangle.

 

4 mages on 1 ranger in full karils aren't going to damage the ranger much at all with magic but in MA the mages win outright.

 

Numbers always win in this game, like I said if you spam one of there units with all of yours you always win this can be repeated to win 99.9% of games. Regardless of the special units, triangle or anything else.

 

 

 

Even the most basic RTS have ranged and no ranged units. They also have the ability to select more then one unit at a time and normally try to reward strategy over unit spamming.

 

 

 

How many rangers and mages do you see getting within melee range for there first attack in normal combat?

 

 

 

Like I said its impossible for the engine to select more then one unit time so, why make a RTS where you can only have one unit selected at a time? Its already less of a RTS more of a TBS as you have to take it in turns to move units.

Again I will point out that it was a flop because of all the hype surrounding it and what was delivered, not really having to do with who hyped it. Coupled in with the fact that everyone knew how much time and effort was spent on it.

 

 

 

The updateless week before it didn't help either.

If you're disappointed because you buy into player speculation and cannot realise that even the msot basic of things take months upon months to be designed and coded it you're own fault.

 

 

 

Not the update.

 

 

 

From what Jagex told us of the MA concept the game has gone above and beyond and is actually quite good.

 

 

 

Just because you bought into everything players assumed about it and decided 6 months coding = must be massive and epic makes it your flawed expectations that are a flop not the update itself.

You're not the tutorial guy!

 

 

 

I'm very much displeased with the lack of information behind MA.

 

Sure, it's got an entry in the L&H, but it doesn't really say:

 

- why the base is located in the Feldip Hills. Is this a tactical choice? Don't the nearby Ogres bother them?

 

- why there are mercenary Elves in the Feldip Hills. What were they doing there? And how did they get there? Shouldn't they be fighting a civil war?

 

- how you go from one basement to an island overlook and then to another basement. And both basements even have the same exit!

 

And lastly:

 

- what the armies are fighting for. Not to mention that they are forced to fight against members of the same race who might even be friends.

 

 

 

This RTS game just doesn't fit within the RS context if you ask me.

Let me rephrase the question then: what are they being send out for to fight against each other? Is there some ingenious strategy behind putting your own mercenary armies to fight against each other?

 

 

 

How do these locators work then? Does Superior Locator teleport you to unmined rune rocks?

 

You select wich kind of recource you want to go to (e.g.: rune rocks, yew trees, magic trees, etc..), but the location of these recources is randomly selected. I also think it teleports you to empty ore veins, so beware.

another horrific update. This game took nearly a year to develop and it is a very bad joke. What a disaster. Very low quality. I thought that this game would bring back the glory days of RS, but what an idiotic assumption. Bad gameplay, bad premise, bad rewards, bad delivery, bad concept, bad idea. It's a good thing that they took their time, though, it saved me from having to see this for another few months.

 

 

 

Between Jagex's clumsy attempts at PvP updates, and this nonsense, it looks like this game is going far down hill. It's just a total disaster, unless you are a fan of cooking or RC. They are always runnning around desprately trying to balance out the game, when the solution is so easy. It's rather fun to watch them struggle with their own gigantic egos and their unwilllingness to admit their blatant failures. To respond to the inevitable moaning "why don't you solve the problems" I perfer to just watch the show.

 

 

 

Once again, I see people trashing Eatrunearrow. This time, they slammed him even though many people agreed with him. it's just the usual mindless drivel against him. Probably just a bunch of fanboys who cannot stand to see any attack against something that they are so desprate to defend. Maybe they are simply too ignorant to understand what he is trying to communicate.

A mager can easily defeat a ranger if he knows what he's doing by the way :P

Oh, it's you again. I was hoping that you had left in the intervening time that I had not posted here, but apparently you still haven't found anything better to do. A statement that obviously contradicts the general consensus here regarding this horrible game. There is an overwhelming number of people who make a one-time posts condemning the game, and then leave. The few defenders of the game are loud mouthed and angry, but that does not mean that they've got the numbers on their side. You have your vile little attitude, but I have the numbers on my side.

I've played the game several times and I still think it's terrible.
I played it twice and I KNOW it's terrible.
If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

 

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

I stongly agree. the game was bad quality and it should have not been released, it needed more development time.

 

 

 

Lol, Omali isn't even ranked on MA high scores. He hasn't even played the game and he is judging it to be good. Even though Thedayrsdied is usually wrong, I guess Omali is wildly off the mark this time, lol.

Really? Numbers? A few people whining? My numbers: Those who are still playing and enjoying the mini-game, numbers that far outrank those who are complaining about it.

I've seen people with decent spoils of war at higher ranks. While the mini-game appears to be more of a money-sink than a reward generator, I will concede that most of the rewards are small boosts, while being more similar to Castle Wars offering exclusive costumes. As for it being "bug infested" that's something you have to expect when pushing new boundaries.

Nonsense. I give the same advice to anyone; If you're not enjoying the game, then stop playing it. If you really believe that Jagex fails every time, then stop giving them your money. Why raise your own blood pressure and rage when there are a myriad of other MMO's on the market? Give your two cents, and if it isn't followed up on, quit. Hell, pick a smaller game like Darkfall where you could probably get some 1-on-1 time with the developers.

 

 

 

I'll admit I haven't played Runescape nearly as much as I used to, ever since FunOrb launched. I have somewhat lost interest, and this year of updates and small quests isn't helping that. In fact, I regularly log in and immediately log off.

I'm not a game developer, yet I've had quite a bit of my feedback taken note of and used by Jagex on FunOrb. You don't have to be specially trained in anything to have insight into basic feedback. I don't have any credentials in journalism, yet I've managed to create and crash a decently unpopular FunOrb Fansite....Wait..

I really like mobilising armies. Y'know? It's just something that I pop off to every once in a while, play one or two games then get back to whatever. I think it's a good minigame. Especially when you play for fun and not profit. I'm rank... 8 or something.

Racheya, you like EVERYTHING Jagex does. I have never, not once, heard you so much as say that a single update could use a little work, regardless of how poorly executed it was.

 

 

 

Seriously, all you need to do is spend twenty bucks to play a decent RTS- Starcraft. Drastically better game play, better controls, even better graphics. And it came out ELEVEN YEARS AGO. And before you say anything about how MA is simply a good first try and bound to mistakes, bugs and failures, I'd like to point out Starcraft was a first as well. The first RTS to have more than two factions. It was a success. It was a success. IT WAS A SUCCESS. It's been eleven years and people STILL play it- it's a national freakin' sport in South Korea. Practically every RTS of any merit since then has had at least three factions. Blizzard went out on a limb... and succeeded.

 

 

 

You want more examples? I have more. But my point is that just because something is an experiment does NOT mean it needs to be buggy or a failure. THAT IS NOT A VALID EXCUSE.

I'm not interested in it as an RTS or whatever, I'm not comparing it to all that. I'm comparing it to being a Runescape minigame, which it is, and I like. If I wanted to play a more expensive or supposedly 'better' game then I would do - but I don't want to. I want to play Runescape.

 

 

 

And I do think Jagex do things wrong sometimes, that they fluff things up a bit, I just don't think that whining for 10 posts is the correct way to act, so you might not be able to tell.
