If slavery was legal...

Simple question, really. If slavery was legal, would you own a slave, or be against it?

To not cause any racial problems, let's say, hypothetically, that a new island was discovered that had an entirely new breed of people. They were considered inferior to every other known civilization on Earth, and their skin color was not the same as anyone known on Earth as of now.

Note: I AM NOT PROMOTING SLAVERY. THIS IS A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION, ASKING WHAT YOU WOULD DO.

At this point, in first world countries, I don't think human slavery is really possible. Too many activists, too many laws that would get in the way. Now, here's the real question. If we created thinking AI robots, andh ad them do all the hard labor jobs for us, but then they became self aware, would we keep them as slaves?

I would buy a slave but I would give him/her freedom to do whatever he/she wants so that no one else could buy that slave and use him/her as an actual slave....if that makes sense.

And what's wrong with their skin colour? What did they do to be inferior? :|

Well, I suppose it would be rather useful, but it would go against my principals. I feel lazy and bad enough that my family has a housemaid, having a Slave would make feel pretty sick that I own another human life.

When I was in the states I worked with a south african brother sister team. Their father owned a vineyard and they lived through apartheid and its absolution. They were nice people (especially to our ecuadorian bosses) but honestly found it difficult to come to terms with why slavery is illegal. Its one of those things where if you grow up and its normal, you take it for granted. As for your question though, not in a million years.

You missed an opportunity to pettily insult him by saying "robert detestable". Tisk tisk.

I wouldn't own slaves. Slavery is no different than the control of the wealthy over the less fortunate. In fact, it pretty much is the fuedal system, but with more degradation. And far worse than factories, obviously.

If we were to stumble upon it with the morals we have now then I'd be against it totally. However, if I was born into a society where it was already considered acceptable, I might. I'd like to say that there's no way that I would, but in reality there's no way of knowing.
