Should I buy a whip?

Hey guys,

I just reached 70 atk a few days ago and would like to buy a whip. I currently have about 7m. I ideally wanted to wait to see if the whip came back down to 1.2m before buying one, but it doesnt seem to be going less than 2m.

So i was wondering, should I go ahead and buy it now for 2.2m or do you think it really will fall lower eventually? I would like to train my def. up and would like a whip to do that.

Thanks all!

You could wait a bit, I think it might drop about a 100k, but not really an amount any more meaningful than that, at least unless Jagex releases a weapon that can dethrone the whip.

Yeah, if you think its only going to be a 100k drop, then really no point in waiting. And I doubt Jagex is going to dethrone the whip soon :P Thanks for that, anyone else think the whip wont drop much?

Is 2m the new standard for the whip?

I just get the feel from the dozen or so people that have tried to buy mine today, and the fact that the price of almost everything IS rising due partially to 26k inflation, that the whip is going to be hanging on above 2mil for quite a while, but I also though it would never drop from 1.6 to 1.2 mil... even then, sounds like you aren't do poor that losing a bit would finish you off, lol.

Go ahead and get it. If it does go back down, you will have made more then that since you bought the whip now and went and skill or done w/e you do for cash. Now if you plan on training str or something i would suggest you hold off on a whip unless you plan on training on control.

Good news for me now since i might get some whips from my abby task \'

I never bought a whip - I trained with a dragon long until I got high enough in slayer to kill abbyssal demons. Then I got one fairly quickly as a drop.

I wouldn't expect everybody to do that, but I consider it a badge of honor to have never paid money for a whip.

Well some would argue that the time saved by using a whip to slay up all those tasks could have been put to use to other more profitable endeavours, amounting to more than the value of several whips

But yes, get the whip regardless of the price. You have the money and it's entirely worth it. It's probably the best investment you'll make for awhile.

I'd say get it now, the economy is too unstable to estimate when it'll drop, if it ever does. I imagine it'll go back to normal, but not any time soon, unless Jagex fixes this 76king business soon.

I would like to get the most difficult 99 in the game to accomplish. which is woodcutting.
because I had a drunken night in philadelphia and sprayed a fire extinguiser, evacuated a 7 story hotel on the philly stadium, spent the night in jail.. then got on level 2 prob & have to pay 50 a month because I have a job. It's their way of collecting more money out of me.

I wish people would stop posting threads asking if prices are going to fall or rise. We can't exactly see into the future.. No one has a clue.

There have been price increases in weapons due to the +1 bounty worlds, so demand is rising.. how long that is sustained, I have no clue.. but yeah, don't be cheap.. I remember when whips first came out and they were up to 50M (heck, I don't remember, maybe even more).. I had to wait a while to just buy one for 15M. So, 2M is nothing.. especially if you have 7M now.. and think of the whip as an investment, because you'll be making faster money with it (through slayer or just any other combat) than with a drag weapon. Go for it.

Thanks all. Looks like the answer is an unequivocal YES.

To DeltaER: With all due respect mate, I wasnt really asking is it going to go up or down. I just wanted to get the advice of people who obviously use the weapon a lot more than me and could tell me, based on my situation, if it was a good buy or not. Sorry if it came across the wrong way, but thanks for the help anyway.

Thanks guys, I guess this can be closed now - hope I can get the Whip off GE <3:

I wouldn't worry if the prices crash and you end up losing 1M, if you just train with it or go gwd you'll pay back the money you spent on it in no time :) I bought one, sold though because I decided to go skilling. But during the time I had it I made all the cash back that I spent on it, so ended up making 2M with it :P

Do not do this.

Buy the whip.

How do you know the whip's price is gonna go down and not up?

With 26k-ing inflation, you'll see the price of most things rise. Like whips.

Get a whip. Even if you lose money, it's worth it.

once youve hit the whip is pretty much the best weapon from thereon out, except MAYBE pking and a few bosses. normal training, slaying, drop hunting etc, its the best. it is well worth the 2m price tag. if you can get it, get it. they wont drop to 1.2m for a long time, if ever, im afraid

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

Yeah, the prices are going to be floating around 2M for a very long time. They probably won't drop more than 200K. So, but the whip, you only live once and it's only a game

For a lower-leveled player, I agree. The whip is an excellent crutch for someone who needs the stat boost. But I would rather be self-sufficient than dither over whether my 2 million coin investment might go up or down. Two million coins is sofa cushion money in this game.

IOW, if you have to ask whether you can afford it or not, you probably can't afford it.

IMO there are some weapons that aren't investments to be traded in sometime later, they are (Hopefully) one time expenses to get what you need, and that 2mil won't be coming back. So decide if that's acceptable, and if not stick with a d long/scim.
