So you've been around the block?

I started around the end of 2003, beginning of 2004 on an account that is now long lost and forgotten about. I wasn't savvy on any of the rare drops or untradeables so I have no proof of my existence, but I did play (even though it was minimal at the beginning) at least somewhat "back in the day".

I like this sort of thread, and I know people probably seen tons of those already, but they got bumped off frequent enough for people to make new ones. One of the earliest moment I remember was seeing 2 P2p chopping yew by the yew trees near Edgeville bank. The Black gold trim plate body and plate skirt worn by female character was so cool plus the flower and the cavalier hat match so perfectly that I asked the character not to move so I could take a screenie. (of course the other dude was like, quick move away so he can't ss you) I was wearing full steel and acting completely newbish.

I thought I was pretty old school since I started 5 years ago, but looking at other peoples reply made me realize that I wasn't around that long at all (wish I could start earlier and got the rubber chicken at least)

I started playing around 6 -7 years ago... It is strange to think of RS without even a dragon scimitar now =/ I guess i was too low of a level to even have that concern me at the time though.

I joined just before slayer, I was walking around aimlessly killing men and chickens on attack style combat for weeks not realising how to change and why I should change. First account: Eckodude11 (Made the one i'm currently using 2 months afterwards when I got to 36 combat on ecko, on a day off of school)

Miokie was a mess about account, not caring about anything, Until I started mining, and then I made it my main account, and now I hate mining...

- Barrows coming out and all my school friends having an item or two from it, Me being F2P at the time...

- Slayer coming out, Killing crawling hands for gloves to go sell in falador bank.

- Cutting maples and selling for 100gp each to get my first set of rune.

- Rune hatchets for 20k each.

- Merchanting took skill, which I didn't have.

- Borrowing 200k off a friend to do the monkey madness puzzel.

- 51 Bots behind varrock castle. (Counted them)

- No Lumby bank or achievment diaries.

- No wildy ditch, just a warning.

(Not in correct order, Just random's which first came to mind)

I had thousands of screenshots of gameplay on my laptop, but it died. :( If I can find some way of getting files off a broken laptop I'd love to see them all again.

I just nostalgia'd.

Chronological Order-

-March 2004: I'm your typical Miniclip generation player (friends of my brother found it on Miniclip). I was 9 when I signed up (there was no age limit then) four days before RS2 came out.

-2004: Going to Zamorak monks in RSC (the place with the Zammy wine), picking up the steel maces that others left on the ground, and selling them to the mace shop in Falador. I thought that was good money lol.

-2004: The empty mansion in Falador in RSC (caught a guy drop trading there and got 3 R2H's + str ammy as a nub).

-Christmas 2004: Waking up at 4 AM Christmas morning to play RS and get the "Christmas drop" (this was RSC, bear in mind).

-Easter 2005: Logging into RS2 for the first time just to get a Rubber Chicken.

-August 2005: Crying when I couldn't play RSC anymore when they closed it off to F2P (later became P2P and now I have a "Veteran" account).

-January 2006: First update I remember was Mage Training Arena (never paid attention to updates until I became P2P).

-June 2006: I remember being on the computer and telling my brother (who was downstairs on the Gamecube) that Player Owned Houses came out. He promptly kicked me off the computer and locked himself in the room the rest of the day (he was 14 and I was 12). I still think Construction is new.

-December 2007: Giving gifts to all of my closest friends before the trade limit update. Lost a bunch of old friends after the update that ensued .

Anyone that never played RS before 2008 does not know what they missed out on, in the good old days . I would trade my whole RS bank to go back to a day in Summer '07 and play. Those were the days...

Fun fact: I'm on the same computer that I used to create my account (Windows XP ftw). I've had 0 problems in the 6+ years with this computer, luckily (Windows XP  ).

Player since 2004. All skills 1M+ XP.

You can take the hard drive out if its still good and use some sort of adapter to make it into a storage drive and plug it into pc like a regular USB jump drive. If hard drive dies, there are ways to partially recover it by either software programs or send it to a data recovery team, but of course latter cost quite a bit of money. Not sure if you want to try that unless its really important

I also use the same computer to play RS until the HD mode come out (and I had it since 2002). Everything is problem free with this PC except its old and likes to overheat. So when HD comes out, I bought another gaming lappy just for it (and anticipated SC2) so I can play it in HD mode a lot smoother without lag.

sleeping bag introduction

:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

This was the beginning of my mining phase...it was painful, except for the day or two where seemingly every rock in the mining guild had like 7 coals...

I do not miss not being able to see combat levels either. Such a useful feature

I began playing in August '05, so I'm only a few days short of five years :)

I remember:

  • missing Halloween '05 event :(
  • not getting every possible item from Xmas '05 event (I still use the ones I got very often)
  • no sound in low detail
  • not having enough money for rune axe and getting 54 woodcutting before buying one
  • world 1 Varrock bank
  • selling muddy keys, spinach rolls etc. for ridiculous prices
  • getting members a few weeks before hunter, Feldip hills was full of people
  • cheese potatoes in warriors' guild 9gp each

A few pics (sadly I only have one from 2006 and I've already posted it in too many topics, but whatever):

[hide]The oldest RS pic I still have, I had about 20 from 2005-2006 but I lost them... :(

The other ones are from 2007-2008... mostly from 2008

Sorry for low quality

I remember the higher level rock you mined or tree you cut the more fatigue you would get.

After 16 mith ores or something you would be at 100% fatigue.

Oh and sound was a members only exclusive option :P

And drops parties upstairs varrock museam back when there were only 3 stuffed animals set up there, a bear and some others...

And getting rune larges from greater demons in the wild when rune larges were 40k XD

Getting spinach roll from moss giant then selling it for 50k

Like someone else already said, trading my dragon med for a red phat which had the same value.

Being able to test rs2 beta and realising that it sucks.

Quitting for 2 years, coming back for a month and quitting for another 2 years.

Also, I'm pretty sure the wilderness always had a warning? Maybe I'm just not remember correctly

Now that i think of it, there was a warning that only came up once before you entered the wildy and only reappeared once you logged and logged back in i believe.

True that!

I strongly believe me and a small group of others where responsible for the wild ditch, It was just after Jagex had a PR disaster by telling pkers (and only pkers) that luring people int the wilderness was ok, and this lead to alot of naive deaths, Jagex later repealed this, and suggestions sprung up onto how to stop luring, the suggestion of a friend was for a wall to be built at the bottom of the wilderness, and it was developed a fair bit in how it would work/war people, and I added the idea of moving it so there was one square of nonwilderness past the ditch, so players where not trapped and killed there.

The suggestion got some Jmod attention, and a few months later it was launched, exactly as we said, but a ditch and not a wall....... I still think a wall would have been better!

I haven't replied to a thread in this area for a while, heh.

I don't even remember what was new when i started (late 01 or early 02, don't remember really). I hm, let's see... i can barley remember the easter eggs. I remember the masks somewhat tho.

Items, skills etc.. I don't know, memory gone!

Well except when Runecrafting was released, at least i think it was. I remember when the magic xp was changed from high xp points to low. Maybe someone can help me out here.

The needle scam still remains in my memory tho!

I never knew the exact date of when i started, but i think it was either November or December '03 (would love to find out). I had just started secondary school, and some friends told me to start playing. I logged on now and then over the Christmas break but that was it.

Couple of random things, nostalgia etc... in the best chronological order i can think of.

Runecrafting/mining essence and the new interface

Player mods

Castle wars

Yoyos

Rubber chickens

Buyings Unids 1k each!

Barrows (and then merchanting the items to make my first milion)

Slayer

Fight caves

Farming

Recipe for disaster (100th quest)

Fally masacre

G/E and trade/wildy removal

Started around the time RS1 was going into RS2.

I remember someone was selling a santa in the Edgeville bank and I was only level 12 or something so I put up some noob crap and she "lold" saying it was worth around 100k.

I believe they still had magic stats at the time.

--

I remember slayer, me and my noob friend would sit at gargoyles begging people there if we could have a 'Maul'...

Well eventually this friend and I teamed up and saved up for a maul, in the end I ended up paying for half yet he walked away with it, cheap bastard :P

--

I wasn't really there for farming... I remember the pre-launch seed harvesting. (like a month before they released it I think?)

--

Hunter and Con I was there, no distinct memories though.

--

Wasn't there for summoning 1 or 2, was taking a break

--

Was there for barrows, that was fun...

I remember the dagannoth kings, when the Dragon Axe was useless... It was SO FUN lol, I would loot all the items people dropped when they died trying to get to the kings... The actual area was PACKED. Cannons and ice barrages galore!

Met The Old Nite a few times, he was a cool high level that actually talked...

I remember seeing the long Zezima lines of people.

I joined a few months before the rubber chicken was released, though I never went and got it. I remember being online and getting kicked off when they updated the graphics of the icons. I remember all the bots in Draynor and the wizards who would kill them if they tried to bank. :P I remember trading willow logs for my first set of full Rune and selling Rune axes for 15k each, and pickaxes for 30K. :)
