The Iron never lies to you. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds.

The only band I enjoy would have to be Venom even though they're not even considered black metal anymore, but the hell with that subgenre game. They have a damn song called Black Metal.

Bathory - Blood Fire Death/Under the Sign of the Black Mark

Darkthrone - Under a Funeral Moon (of 2000 albums i like Hate Them)

Borknagar - Quintessence (shame that Vortex had to concentrate on Dimmu, great vocals on Borknagars albums)

Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness

Enslaved - Frost (complain all you want about it not having only BM)

Satyricon - Nemesis Divina

Helheim - The Journeys and the Experiences of Death

Vintersorg - Till Fjälls (again, complain all you want)

Can't think of more at the moment (watching swimming - Rome).

I haven't been listening to BM for a couple of years i must admit, today i fired up a Borknagar album... Which i haven't done for a long time.

Been exploring more music genres for a while.

BLACK METAL IS MY LIFE.

I love you man. <3:

Blut aus Nord (The Work Which Transforms God), Shining (V: Halmstad), Elffor (Into the Dark Forest...), Aäkon Këëtrëh (Dans La Forêt), Amesoeurs (Ruines Humaines), Anaal Nathrakh (Hell is Empty and All the Devils Are Here), Burzum(Det Som Engang Var), and Gorgoroth (Antichrist) are all pretty good.

Cool.

;D

Who could forget Wolves in the Throne Room too? Hipster black metal, sure, but Two Hunters is awesome.

Also, probably the greatest song to ever come out of the genre:

I can't go into how much I love Sigh without hitting fanboy overdrive. Just get Imaginary Sonicscape, Gallows Gallery, and Hangman's Hymn: Musikalische Exequien and be prepared to have your minds ****ing blown.

Burzum is really not that good.

I like some of his ambient stuff and the BM stuff is pretty cool too. I don't really consider him a favorite anymore though, although I do like the songs My Journey to the Stars and War.

edit: dude Sigh is awesome. duuuude.

I like Filosofem, but I think he's a really overrated artist. Some of his songs just seem to pointlessly go on forever.

Yeah. Hangman's Hymn made me want to get into black metal more.

It's a rather radical style of BM when you think about it (a clear contrast to a lot), but Sacramentum, Darkthrone and Burzum are pretty much the only black metal bands that I consider with any sort of 'flawless' records. I think his music is more for the ambient fan rather than the black metal fan, but funny enough his ambient tracks can really suck sometimes (the one on filosofem...[bleep]).

He's definitely a really distinctive artist in the scene, and you're probably right: calling him overrated (especially in this context, i.e. in a thread full of Dimmu Borgir and related) is probably way too harsh. But yeah, he pretty much set the way for 'ambient black metal' which I could never really get into much. It just feels as if he intentionally or otherwise dragged everything out forever and ever, particularly in that track you mentioned.

I don't know, maybe I should give his work more listens now I'm accustomed to more 'atypical of stereotype' music.
