99 Fishing VS 99 Def

Not me ... a friend of mine wants to know which would be faster to get. 99 Def at bandits, or 99 fishing at shilo, fly fishing. His name is thefunny21, at 85 def and 87 fishing. Any input is helpful. :thumbsup:

Well both those methods are a waste of time so dont even bother.

 

 

 

If hes going for a defense cape he might as well train somewhere he makes cash and charms. for example i did 85-99 strength at basilisks and made about 20m. It was nice and fast, each basilisk gave 300 strength exp.

 

 

 

As for fishing, he would be better off to just do monks. He will feel alot better about it at the end. Fishing at shilo will only shave about a week off the total time for the cape and he will have like 50m cash to spend.

Neither of those methods are efficient. The most efficient for fishing is doing barbarian fishing near the dungeon with mithril dragons. The most efficient with melee would be doing armoured zombies. Between those two methods Armoured zombies is slightly faster.

Well defense depends on attack, strength, prayer and summoning and fishing is affected by summoning. So its hard to say.

 

 

 

Personally I'd do neither of those as the moment the game gets repetitive I switch activities or play a different game.

 

 

 

Speed wise defense is quicker to train given a decent att, str, prayer and summoning level.

Fishing can't even break 60k xp/hr, so defence will absolutely be faster, although as has already been noted, the methods you mentioned are inefficient choices.

Honestly? I'd just go slayer with defence...You'll regret it if you do a quicker method, and you get more cash in the end...And barbarian fishing is quick, but honestly, I'd just go monks. Cash > speed imo

Well if he isn't 99 atk/str, then it would be unwise to get defense first.

get 99 defence with 99 slayer because then your rich and you can get 99 atk and str.

Well, I actually looked him up on the highscores. I'd suggest against him going straight for 99 defence with his attack & strength being lower, unless he plans on never training them again. If he eventually wants all of his melee stats to 99, he'll find that once attack & strength are 90+ he can speed right through defence, and even pass them at that stage. If he doesn't plan on training his attack & strength, then I'll have to suggest fishing.

Defence would be faster and more beneficial. Although I agree that in the long run, if your friend would eventually like to have max melees, or even just raise attack and strength more, then they should raise them both a bit more first, and try to level with Slayer too.

Training defence should be faster if you heal with guthans as you still gain def exp when healing.

 

Higher defence also means less guthans switching, which is beneifical in the long run (faster exp, less cost, more afk).

 

Strength doesnt help a lot.. or at least thats what happen with dragon battle axe special as bandits only have 50hp.

I was exactly 81 str and 84att when I was doing it.

 

I was not lifing at all. I just merely gain 300-350k exp for 5-6 hours per day.

I might be a bit biased here seeing as i'm going for 99 defence, but you can value my opinion how you want.

 

And Dark Aura - training defence isn't that slow ;p I've been playing this since september, and genuinely going for def cape since about 2 months ago.... i have 75 attack and strength and i'm 490k off 97 def :

 

First off a mate of mine - Libertherme - is going for 99 fishing, so i know how quick that is too.

 

 

 

Right now to business.....

 

 

 

If he was to do fishing (as mentioned above) he should go for monkfish. He will get good exp and very nice amount of fish which will fetch roughly 30-40m or so. Shilo is a waste..... if he wants absolute speed then i believe (again as mentioned above) that barbarian fishing would be faster than shilo fly fishing, but as has been said by myself and other posters he should go for monkfish.

 

 

 

If he was going for defence I see 3 options:

 

1. Slayer - by far THE BEST method for training, it keeps you focused and you don't have to grind.... also why not raise one of the hardest skills in the game along with 2 others? He'll get a bomb load of cash and exp and a better slayer level at the end of it.

 

2. Armoured Zombies - Though i just argued that slayer is the best method, this might beat it in the short term.... i did 85-93 def there gaining about 300K exp a day therefore leveled every other day...... Also in the short term i made a great load of charms and i managed to buy a DFS off the ranarrs and planks etc that they dropped - so in terms of cash and exp it is better then slayer methinks. But i do kinda regret not doing slayer for those levels because it would have meant i'd be much closer to being able to kill abby demons.

 

3. Daggonoths - not sure how many people think of these, but they're great exp.... just get on guthan plate body and legs and helm, and a weapon and shield of your choice and off you go.... then when you need to heal just whack out the spear.... they're great exp and fact is you'll get seeds and caskets that will pay for the repairs to the armour whenever it is totally destroyed.

 

 

 

Bandits are a total waste because you get pretty much no money off them therefore costing you more for your 99.

 

 

 

 

 

Back to the question - i think defence will be a faster 99 because seeing as Libertherme and I have been kinda racing (well i've been racing him xD) I hope this should come in handy.

 

I just took a 2 week break from RS and have now found out that he's 261Kish (last time i talked to him on msn last night) away from 98..... but it took him about a week to catch up to my defence.

 

Therefore on the value of that i'd say defence will probably be a week quicker.

 

 

 

Buuuuuut; one major thing - does your friend intend to boss hunt or slay, or just skill some more?
