Cross Out Cross Advertising

Stop putting up ads for Funorb on Runescape, Jagex. I don't really mind banner ads, but when you replace Runescape news with spiel about how great Funorb is, I kinda get a little pissed. I go to Runescape.com for RUNESCAPE, not Funorb. If Funorb is doing so poorly you have to advertise on the homepage for another game, maybe you need to rethink your gameplan, hmm?

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

JaGEx is a company, of course their going to advertise on one of their own sites. It gets out the info about their site to a million people without having to pay for advertising.

They'd be idiots not to do it.

So, nintendo is an idiot since they place ads in game cases for more of their games?

Here's something stupid: Advertising for World of Warcraft...on the world of warcraft community site. It's actually quit hilarious to see blizzard waste money like that.

Nope, didn't see any WoW ads on Worldofwarcraft.com. What I did see was news about a new expansion pack and a link to upgrading your account to Wrath of the Lich King.

With Nintendo, they release many games. I have seen, and then purchased, games advertised with Nintendo products that I otherwise would never have gotten, the most prominent being Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Oh Mah Gawd, I play Ruenscaep phor runescap! Nawt 4 Fun0rb! omj jadox phayal!

Just giving you an idea of what to expect on the RSOF today.

I kinda get a little pissed.

That's because you actively seek things out to whine over.

If Funorb is doing so poorly

Who said FunOrb was doing poorly? It may not be the same level as Runescape, but there are thousands of people playing at any given time, albeit mainly on Armies of Gielinor, Arcanists and Kickabout League (Single player games can't be population gauged)

Stop putting up ads for Funorb on Runescape, Jagex.

Why shouldn't they? A large number of people play Runescape, and they'll see the ad. If anyone subscribes to Funorb from seeing the ad, Jagex made a good choice in putting it there BECAUSE IT PROFITS THEM. They're a business, you know.

I don't really mind banner ads, but when you replace Runescape news with spiel about how great Funorb is, I kinda get a little pissed.

RS news was not replaced, the ad was released a day after their QA Q&A.

You get pissed because (what omali said). Seriously, take a chill pill.

I go to Runescape.com for RUNESCAPE, not Funorb.

It's you're choice whether or not to open it. A RATIONAL person would say "Oh look, Jagex is advertising to their +5m Runescape players to go and try Funorb, a potentially profitable move. I'll pass on opening that link/I'd like to see what they say/What's Funorb? I guess I'll go find out.

But no, you [bleep] about it for whatever reason. Please explain why a RS news post about Funorb bugs you so, I'd really like to know. Please note that opening the post is optional.

If Funorb is doing so poorly you have to advertise on the homepage for another game, maybe you need to rethink your gameplan, hmm?

According to the Arcanist highscore table, there are 109k members.

Other than your annoying [bleep]ing, what reason does Jagex NOT have to advertise one of their game sites on their more succesful game sites?

They're replacing Runescape news with an advertisement for another game site owned by them that you will find out about just by clicking the Jagex logo- something I did in my first year of playing.

Again, nothing was replaced, the Funorb thing was simply "added".

And more people will see that add than people who will go to jagex.com.

I kinda get a little pissed
That's because you actively seek things out to whine over.

I love you.

Seriously, does it freaking bug you so much just because a company is advertising one of their other sites on one of their sites? Many companies constantly do that.

Does one news post kill you or waste so much space? It's a good way of advertising.

You know what? This isn't a new thing. I complained about it the first freakin' time it happened. Funorb is, was, and always will be a stupid idea. It takes a lot of games first produced by other gamesites, where you can play FOR FREE, changes things around and calls it a Jagex creation. Furthermore, original Funorb games bore me. Armies of Gielenor? No thanks, I stick with Civ IV.

And, I never thought I'd have to say this, but I'm requesting that any mods who read this post lock this thread. I just can't deal with the rude trivialization of my pet peeves.

As for trivializing your pet peeves, you can't get any more trivial than what you laid out in the first post. And calling them Pet Peeves doesn't change my original post, which was that you actively seek out things to whinge about.

Pet peeves are trivial by nature :| (Also, this is the rant forum. Don't expect everyone to go along with your ideas. Just because someone else rants on your rant or doesn't agree with you doesn't mean the thread should be locked. It's called a healthy discussion.)

And seriously, I think you can deal with it. It's not harming you at all, as they didn't replace anything with it, it was just added. Smart business move by Jagex.

Thanks for agreeing with me! Omali's just upset cause he runs a Funorb fansite.

And, on the other issue, it's not so much that Funorb exists, but what it represents.

First, when Jagex originally announced Funorb, they said they'd never again post Funorb updates on Runescape.com. What was I ranting about again?

Secondly, I have always been against Funorb. I feel it's a waste of Jagex's resources with very little return for the effort- effort that could be spent on Runescape instead. So the merest mention of it sets mah blood aboiling.

And, finally, by clicking on the Jagex logo I can see, very clearly, Funorb proudly displayed as a product of Jagex Games Studio. If that weren't enough, under Website Features on RUNESCAPE.com is a link to Funorb.

Also, leave the blasted thread open. I don't care. I'm sick of letting the trolls tear people apart on behalf of their precious Jagex- it's about time someone exchanged blows.

You know what? This isn't a new thing. I complained about it the first freakin' time it happened.

And you still haven't realized that IT IS UNHEALTHY TO ACTIVELY SEEK OUT THINGS TO WHINE ABOUT. Tell me, what is wrong about Jagex advertising their less succesful site on their more succesful site?

Funorb is, was, and always will be a stupid idea.

I perosnally love it, and think a great many of the games are very high quality. Especially Miner Disturbance, one of my favrites. Orb Defence is, in my opinion, THE best turret game by far. I also love Arcanists, I'm highly ranked there... AoG is too slow for me, and never have tried KAL.

It takes a lot of games first produced by other gamesites, where you can play FOR FREE, changes things around and calls it a Jagex creation.

You can play for free here too, just with less features than the full. Also, as I can see, Jagex takes classic games, and re-vamps them. Many have been done before, but these games have exceptional quality.

Furthermore, original Funorb games bore me.

That's completely your opinion.

Armies of Gielenor? No thanks, I stick with Civ IV.

I think AoG is boring too.

And, I never thought I'd have to say this, but I'm requesting that any mods who read this post lock this thread. I just can't deal with the rude trivialization of my pet peeves.

Pet Peeves are trivial BY DEFINITION.

*Ignores omali stuff. Learn what the definition of troll is*

Thanks for agreeing with me! Omali's just upset cause he runs a Funorb fansite.

He said you have an attitude problem, not omali.

And omali's not upset, it seems he and many others are sick of people on this board whining over ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL.

And, on the other issue, it's not so much that Funorb exists, but what it represents.

Huh?

First, when Jagex originally announced Funorb, they said they'd never again post Funorb updates on Runescape.com. What was I ranting about again?

So what? It doesn;t change the fact that you are whining OVER NOTHING. This simply isn;t worth griping about! It's absolutely trivial!

Secondly, I have always been against Funorb. I feel it's a waste of Jagex's resources with very little return for the effort- effort that could be spent on Runescape instead.

It brings in over $10m a year. And so what if the small costs it takes to run could be put towards Runescape? You'll still complain about whatever different updates Runescape gets.

So the merest mention of it sets mah blood aboiling.

That sounds unhealthy. Again, take a chill pill.

And, finally, by clicking on the Jagex logo I can see, very clearly, Funorb proudly displayed as a product of Jagex Games Studio. If that weren't enough, under Website Features on RUNESCAPE.com is a link to Funorb.

See my above post.

Also, leave the blasted thread open. I don't care. I'm sick of letting the trolls tear people apart on behalf of their precious Jagex- it's about time someone exchanged blows.

Again, learn what a troll is. And gold, diamonds, silver, and Anderson Cooper's hair are precious, not Jagex. Don't be condescending.

When you go feather dragon god, you never go back.

As much as I don't enjoy seeing the cross advertising, I'd still have to say you're taking this argument a bit far.

It's something trivial. It's on the front page, for say, a week, then it's gone and you don't have to see it anymore. Seriously, it's worse than arguing over whose turn it is to feed the dog.

Furthermore, if you're a frequent RS player, then you probably would/should have a bookmark link directly to the page where you play RS. (Well, at least I do... :ugeek: )

Also, as many people have said, it's Jagex's attempt to make a bit more profit from FunOrb so that they can hire more staff. And more staff = more and/or better quality updates then before.

Tl;dr: It's only there for a week. Ignore it, because through it, the game you like is (or should be, anyways) getting more and/or better updates.

You might think FunOrb is stupid and a waste of Jagex's time, but many other people will think otherwise, so stop trolling and acting like your opinion is so superior.

There are plenty of original games in FunOrb. Doesn't a game with an original and interesting twist from the "backbone" game count as original? Aren't there hundreds of variations of the game of chess?

And as many other posters have said, you've really gone too far for such a trivial issue. Does it freaking matter to you whether they advertise their OWN game on their OWN website?

And about the "promise breaking". Have you been playing RuneScape for a few years? Jagex is notorious for breaking "promises".

Well, tbh, I don't like some of the things that Jagex is doing, but most of the rants on that have little or no solid base for the rant, just opinion. Seriously, base your rant on something more then "Jagex is FAILZ0RS!"

Example: (also something I might rant about)

Skele Horror: It is something that you're supposed to do like a "oh, I should go check on that" thing (like Tears of Guthix), but the XP for it isn't good enough to make players even WANT to check on it. Seriously, from what has been shown to be (so far) a 73 slayer and 43 prayer requirement, 1250 slayer xp and 1k prayer xp? That's pittance to people with those levels. Also, multiple other creatures (actual Slayer tasks, Bork, jade vine, etc.) have much higher XP gains in that short amount of time. It's just gonna be ignored except for the people who enjoy pointless fights.

See? It has a valid base, (the xp rewards stink for the requirements needed) AND it's written legibly.

True, it can still be partially defied with the "it's something you check on once a week" argument, but that doesn't mean that the base is invalid. If anything, it proves the base MORE valid because you can only "check on it" once a week.

Not to say that the rants that are based on opinion aren't rants, believe me, they are, but I prefer it when people try to back their rants up with solid data. And if you question my Skele Horror argument, I can give you the actual math. It's just rather long.

First, if Funorb isn't working like planned it should be dropped. Consider Vista. Many people hated it, Microsoft didn't do anything but step up advertising. This didn't work. So they reinvented it as Mohavi. That didn't work either. Finally, they got off their bums and began work on Windows 7. I see a parallel here.

And you justify them breaking a promise cause they always do. Can you spot what's wrong here? I can: companies, as well as people, shouldn't break promises. It's acceptable on occasion, but when it is a constant, ever present quality about them, you shouldn't accept it.

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Who said it's not working as planned? WoW has millions of members, but they still advertise.

Consider Vista. Many people hated it, Microsoft didn't do anything but step up advertising.

Have you been watching too many Mac commercials? They're not very reliable, you know.

As I write this, I have 4 Vista patches in my Window's Updates Queue (sp). I'll download them when I'm fine with my computer restarting.

This didn't work. So they reinvented it as Mohavi. That didn't work either.

That was and ad campaign :wall:

Finally, they got off their bums and began work on Windows 7. I see a parallel here.

Huh? Steel Sentinels recently came out, KickAbout Leauge also came out awhile ago and is very popular. Arcanists, their most popular game, is reciveing regular bug fixes, had a load of new achivements added a few months ago, and nerfed a very powerful spell that required little set-up (Conductor Rod).

Just because they're advertising too doesn't mean they're not doing anything :wall: WoW also advertises (on tip.it even!). Does that mean they're doing poorly?

And you justify them breaking a promise cause they always do. Can you spot what's wrong here? I can: companies, as well as people, shouldn't break promises. It's acceptable on occasion, but when it is a constant, ever present quality about them, you shouldn't accept it.

Yah I agree. But it doesn't justify whining about something so incredibly trivial.
