Gandorf61
Haha, finally get to read the whole Skippy list! Probably one of the best articles I've read in a while; several of them had me laughing. "Beating the Addiction" was also a nice read. At times I would consider myself addicted but then I look at my life and see great grades, awesome friends, and nothing a regret so I keep playing. Besides it's really not that hard to IM your friends while you play Runescape. : Pyramid Plunder Guide Tip.it Forum Rules Adventurer's LogThanks to Cowboy14 for the awesome sig! bedman
I really liked the second one. He describes the whole thing very well. I admit that at points I dreamed about runescape too. Skull
First one was pretty funny. Only a few actually made me laugh, but in all pretty good. Still need to read the second one. [bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp
P_E_N_N_Y
The first one was alright i guess, it didn't blow me away but i've never heard of this skippylist thing before so i'm probably missing something. I think the addiction article was brilliant, it's definately the best i've ever read on the subject and i can relate although in a slightly different way. When i was in my younger teenage years i had very irregular internet access so the addiction could never take proper hold of me until i was a little older and had my own laptop (though i had plenty of withdrawals) I never let it detriment my real life until i finished school though, i was having trouble finding a job so i had plenty of free time and runescape was there slowly dragging me in, i was playing all day every day - living out my childhood fantasy that all of my friends used to be into, and i really did become the "nerd-who-lives-in-his-parents-basement" i distanced myself from pretty much everyone i knew, started sleeping during the day, and basically revolved my whole life around runescape until i moved and got a job. I'm not too sure where i'm going with this, just wanted to add my 2 cents, i think the runeddiction comes for us all at some point, usually when we're younger like the author was, or like i would have been but it came out later. Some of us can overcome it from the start, some can't. Although i don't think ignoring the game altogether is overcoming it - you have to learn to integrate it with your life or be generally uninterested in playing it anymore otherwise you're just putting it off. I collapsed several times from tiredness and sometimes i was sitting in the same place for upwards of 6 hours, but now i'm confident that i can either play all day long or only for a few minutes and it wouldn't affect me either way. Twibb
The first article was one of the funniest things on Runescape I've read in a while. Kudos to the author.
strilmus
Eh, I don't think it's as funny as the original, but that's how things are, eh? Plus I think you took that one about the giggling straight from the original.
Necromagus
Obviously there's a few copied and similar ones, as it's pretty much a tribute article. There's nothing in the original one about gnome juggling though. Orioles8
The Runescape Skippy's List is perhaps the single funniest article I've read on Tip.it Times. I was howling from start to finish. Well Done! And with regards to #86, everybody knows if you're not playing 3.5, you're a tool. Also, I'd like to point out that in my experience I've heard just about everything from #58 on the original Skippy's list called in cadence at least once... in fact quite honestly I've called more than a couple myself *~72,749th to 99 Attack on 9 September 2009~*
fenrir321
I've always wondered if I were addicted to the computer. However, I've lasted several days without the computer before (even though I'm almost constantly on it), so I'm sure I'm not addicted to the computer, much less runescape. I think probably the problem with the "runescape addiction" is that it's not technically an addiction. An addiction is more along the lines of physiological need, like if you go into withdrawal, you will have physical ailments along the lines of sickness or complete dysfunction. What the author described is more along the lines of Pavlov's dog experiment except the dog didn't get the food. It's a learned behavior that would need to be relearned. You could say that an un-socialized (don't know the word) baby when presented with a socialized world would go into withdrawal from being "addicted" to being a heathen. Not to say that what the author had done was right or rational, but I think the label which he placed on the effects was misleading. If someone begins to get convulsions or vomits due to lack of runescape or video games, then there can be more evidence for addiction.
Low C
I was just recently on a 3 day absence from runescape due to going to the races and not having a computer for 3 days. I didn't start vomiting or getting the cold shakes so I don't think I'm addicted lol. But yea I do sometimes play runescape for hours but I've never chose it over being social. Sir_Squab
LOVED THE SKIPPY ONE! Especially since it led me to the real Skippy's list. And the RS addiction one...it felt like quite a buzzkill after reading the first hilarious article. Still, I think it's a good article. As for the people thinking it's not an addiction because of no physical symptoms...I think that really depends on your definition of addiction. His story certainly made him sound like he had addiction. Also, lil bit of related trivia: there are internet rehab centers in China....keep that in mind when arguing that RS or video game addiction is not a real addiction. Squab unleashes Megiddo! Big_Stingman
Yeah addiction sucks. I kinda lost interest in Runescape and have semi-retired (at least killed my membership). Were both great reads, the first being very funny. :)
