Is too much money a bad thing?

I remembered a few months ago when a friend of mine quit, he tole me "Don't get too much money, it can ruin the game for you"

 

I kinda laughed at him as he went of on his own way. But then I realized something...

 

 

 

A lot of my friends who had quit, quit when they had a lot of money (100mill+ banks) they got bored and slowly left the game. I started to wonder if what he said was true.

 

 

 

So my question is

 

Can having too much money ruin part of the game for you?

 

 

 

I really cant say. The most amount of money I've ever had was 14mill, so for todays standars I'm still poor. So I have to still work for a lot of things.

There is almost always SOMETHING to aim for. My bank is worth between 185-210 mill, and I still want some things I don't have yet. (Red Phat, Ely SS, etc.) The thing is, alot of people play RS to make and achieve goals. Once they achieve them, they may not have thought of another one, and they quit.

It depends on what kind of person you are. Do you strive for perfection and once you get it you give up? Do you always reach higher and never at a definite spot? Do you just play runescape mindlessly for 15 hours day at you parents house just because you can? :wall:

Once I got over 100m I did get bored a little.

 

But then I finally gave in and started spending my money. If you buy up skills or use money where money won't come back, then you can easily keep yourself entertained. I always try to stay in the triple digits, and as soon as I fall under 100m I make my money back. I usually have pure cash.

I've never had more then 12M in cash. I always spend it on skills/stupid things. I don't think I'm ever going to have to worry about having to much money.

Depends on how you play the game. If you play the game to get rich, most likely you're going to get bored after a while. Because once you hit 100m, there's 200m. And 300m looks like 200m, just like it 800m looks like 600m. Where do you go after that? Depends on your attitude. For some people, having everything at their fingertip is just boring, because there's no challenge. So they quit, or start a new account. Other people buy the buayble skills or rares.

I don't really play for money anymore. I Woodcutted for my first 10mil, and now my policy is to always keep that 10mil at all times. Anything excess is spendable, and it's really liked to hover around 45m lately. I have all of the equipment necessary for all Slayer tasks (Guthan's, Karil's, SS, ZS, and Whip/Defender), so I only buy things now that will aid that basic setup somewhat, and really that's just an SGS.

 

 

 

Basically as long as you have all the equipment for intermediate skilling, there's no need for money worries. Nobody should have to camp Green Dragons for X amount of money, money's not what the game's about. :P

It's probably a bad thing for those people who risk 100's of millions in PVP/Boss hunting or even just casual training/Slaying or even merchanting.

I had about 600M cash after finishing 99 slayer, I easily spent that on skills, then made another 500M or so since, probably more, spent all but 150M (my current amount). I am now out of buyable stats, but I still want a good goal, so my new goal is 1B cash, and then I shall buy my dream outfit: White Partyhat, 3rd age plate + legs and Elysian Spirit shield.

Yea, around the 100m mark i started to get bored, I finally quit with a bank worth of about 250m, your friend is very true.

Not in my opinion. Setting a monetary goal and thinking "I'll be happy when I get this" ruins the game because of expectation. If, like me, you make money to do little things at a time... buy that hat, buy 100k more cannonballs, buy full dragon... without getting too wrapped up in a goal, you won't be let down when you finally achieve the goal.

I'd say most of them quit because they've played far too long to earn all that cash, maybe they didn't even have fun on the making. As for me I still like the game and play it a lot.

For me, being someone who has never had more than a 20m cash pile, I'd have to say that more money would actually make the game more fun. If I had all the equipment I wanted, I could happily slay to 99 and just spend all of the profit on prayer potions and cannonballs without having to put some aside for that DFS that I want so badly. :(

You'll learn that the items you have always wanted aren't as spectacular as they seemed like when you couldn't get them once you get them. You'll learn that once you've got the money, the items are nothing special. Once you hit 100m, you're in the life of a clone. You will look like everyone else. You will train like everyone else. There is nothing special, and you will find that money was not the answer all along: it was the experience you had getting it. :)

Have a look at my Rate This! I am level 135 with a 12-15M Bank...I don't mind being semi broke, because I can do with what I have. I don't need a Godsword or Bandos to do what I need to. When I get money I normally buy some skill levels with it anyhow.

Yup, I guess it's kinda true. I'm at the point on Scape where I've done EVERYTHING. Maxed out every level, done every quest, pretty much done it all and have it all. I have everything I need/want in my bank and it's starting to get a bit boring. It's hard for me to find stuff I like doing nowadays and am finding less and less of a reason to keep playing. Today I sat at the grand exchange looking at random stuff to buy and didn't really buy anything as there isn't much left for me to buy. About the only thing I still want is an elysian spirit shield and no one will sell me one :cry:
